Deliberately spread out this book to read and study over Lent. Written in the 600 AD by St John Climacus, a monk the monastery on Mount Sinai, which is still in existence today, the 30 steps St John describes uses Jacob’s Ladder as an analogy and takes a look at our lives, not works but all our virtues. This work is why St John is venerated by both the Eastern Orthodox & Catholic Churches. Probably the first religious “self-help” book as all of his steps are seen in one way our another in many modern books.
