You need a bit of English football background knowledge to enjoy this book, but if you have that you’re off to a great start. Gary Imlach’s conversational style feels like he’s chatting to you over a beer, or like you’re hearing stories directly from the mouths of the football heroes he writes about. The writing is filled with typical British cynical humour, but some chapters are extremely moving as well. The historical insights to the progression of football through the 20th Century are amazing to read.
