Can a New York cop and a teacher find love in the city at Christmas?
It's been far too long since Christian Matthews has seen Daniel Bailey. In fact the last time they met was in college.
Seven years down the road, Chris is licking his wounds after being 'asked to leave' the private school where he was teaching. He has no job, no money, and has to rely on his friend Amelia for a job and a room to live in. He needs a freaking Christmas miracle to make this Season anything other than a total loss.
When Daniel comes back into his life suddenly everything seems possible. Not only is Daniel still the man Christian wants more than anything, but this time Chris may well actually tell Daniel how he feels.

College pals reunite, and can they reignite the passion? This is a sweet, charming, adorable, passionate, emotional, heartwarming, sexy, lovely M/M romance ! Wonderful Chris has just been let go at his teaching job, where he was set up by a former lover. He now works at his sister's café as a barista. Wealthy, big hunk Daniel is a cop and finds Chris with the intention of getting together with him. Neither man has ever forgotten the other. Super hot sexy lovin', not explicit, but very passionate and loving develops with them. They battle their feelings, as Chris doesn't feel worthy of Daniel's bank account. Daniel thinks highly of Chris and doesn't think he's worthy of Chris, because he was such a slut in college. Now Daniel is ready to settle down and wants Chris. Long talks, Chris nursing Daniel back from a gunshot, and Chris's complications from his job loss, all filter through and resolve themselves. This is a dreamy, romantic tale with a beautiful ending. Totally delightful and extends past the Christmas holiday in their lives. ENJOY !!!
3.25 stars My 'mistake' was that I immediately read the online free version (I had it with me before it was taken down due to the publication) before I read this one. I though this one would be a sequel; I didn't pay attention to the blurb that said that it was actually a "revised and re-expanded" version of New York Blue.
So when I started this, it threw me off a bit. I thought, "Hey, this was the same story!". Then I checked the blurb and realized that it WAS the same story. Not a good start for my mood, seriously.
I still felt the story was a bit choppy; even with the new perspective from Daniel. I felt that Chris's insecurities haven't been addressed properly (). In that sense, Chris wasn't truly developed from the free story, even with added words and revised scenes.
The ending was still rushed, and I felt like some of the scenes were jumped quickly, to accomodate Daniel's after-hospital timeline. So personally, I don't feel like this is one of Ms. Scott's best (nor a favorite of mine). Even if I admitted some scenes were 'tighten' and/or lengthen
I do like the addition of the skating scenes though. What can I say, I live in tropical country, I get envious with the whole ice-skating scene but at the same time I love reading about them.

This was a really sweet story. It was short but I did not mind because everything was covered. Although I would love to see this couple again. I think they deserve to be brought to life again. R.J. Scott is a personal favourite author of mine, I love her work and have read quite a few things from her.
New York Christmas, is about Chris and Daniel. They met in college and kissed once. But Chris was older and graduated. Daniel had been a slut and did not believe he deserved Chris. So they had not seen each other in years. In this book Daniel tracks down Chris and they meet up again.
I loved the pace of the story and found it incredibly sweet. Both characters were well written and I loved reading about them. The ending was the sweetest bit. I admit Daniel was just adorable to me, I loved his character.
Another great book by the amazing R.J. Scott, she is an amazing author. I recommend this book. :)
What a perfect Holiday story! Even though New York Christmas is on the shorter side, it's beautifully paced and the relationship totally works.
Attracted to each other in college, Chris and Dan never got the chance to see their relationship through. Now they're living in the same city, both single, and ready to give it a try. I love the chemistry between these two - the romance is sweet and passion is smoking hot.
There's also a whole lot going on in the plot, and RJ Scott packs in some pretty exciting moments. A very interesting story.

Oh boy, I feel really bad saying this, but this story disappointed me. I abandoned it at 40%, so I'm giving it the benefit of the doubt and rate it 3 stars.
Frankly, I found this story as bland as raw oatmeal.
Daniel is just perfect. A NYC cop from a rich family who doesn't really have to work but works as a cop anyway because he's so awesome.
Ten years earlier he had kissed his English tutor in college, Chris, who in the meantime had a gay-related issue at a Catholic private school and now sells muffins because he thinks he can never work as a teacher again. Speaking of career planning...
Daniel has obviously been in love with Chris - even though he never contacted him in ten years.
All of a sudden he finds Chris again, kisses him, dates him, etc. Everything is damn perfect and Chris - who is as interesting as a stamp collection - is happy that his teenage wet dream has the hots for him now.
Yeah... that's a bit sugary sweet even for a Christmas story.
Maybe I missed something by abandoning it. Maybe someone gets murdered and Chris is blamed so Daniel needs to rescue him. Maybe Daniel's family disinherits him for being gay and Chris needs to help him back on his feet and build a life in middle class together.
Or maybe not.
Maybe they're just a boringly perfect couple with great sex, snow on Christmas Eve and a sunset to ride into on their rainbow colored unicorn.
Damn, I shouldn't be reviewing things before breakfast.
This was a disappointment. It felt like several stories crammed together, in a disjointed sort of way. We had the down on his luck teacher, who lost his job amid some scandal featuring an ex, too afraid to fight back, and Daniel, the rich boy turned cop. It was very much instalove, with them exchanging ILYs fairly soon after reconnecting. The bits where the truth about Chris' teaching job came out is where the disjointed part came in. I never quite figured out where and how Daniel got the whole story, because Chris sure as hell didn't tell him. Was it Chris' friend, or the ex, or what? And then the author threw in a life and death situation involving Daniel's job, and it was just too much. Like the author decided to throw everything they could think of into what should have been a simple, sweet, Christmas story, right down to a disapproving mother.
Chris and Daniel first met in college where Chris was Daniel's tutor. With a parting shot of 'I'll see you in a few years' Daniel went on his way and so did Chris. But years later Daniel's got his life together he's working as one of NYs finest and in all the years since college he's never forgotten Chris.
Chris thought he had his life together and he did until he didn't. A scandal at the private school sees him without his boyfriend, no job and no prospects so he's staying with a friend and working in her coffee shop as he tries to get his life together.
When Daniel re-enters Chris's life, Chris is more than a little skeptical about why this man who seems so out of his league would want to be in his life. It's going to take Daniel a bit of work to make Chris see himself in the same light that Daniel does.
I've been wanting to read this story for quite a while now and when I say it on audible.com as part of their Romance Package well...I was all grabby, grabby, gimme, gimme and here I am saying that I loved it.
New York Christmas is a sweet, warm, second chance, finding love, feel good, leave you smiling story and I loved it.
Sean Crisden was the awesome narrator for this one and once again RJ Scott has left me smiling and given me a story that I can see becoming one of my holiday treasures...it'll be right there on the shelf with 'It's a Wonderful Life', 'A Muppet's Christmas Carol' and 'Die Hard'...hey, don't judge me...it's an awesome blow sh*t up movie and everyone knows it takes place at Christmas time. But back to this story...while it took me a while to get around to this story...this may have been my first time enjoying 'New York Christmas', I know it won't be my last.
This is one of those reads that has its ups & downs. Two men suffer a huge case of unrequited love for each other. Chris’ life was not as smooth as Daniel’s. As a matter of fact Chris is a bit of a mental wimp. Okay, I’ll say it, I didn’t like Chris. He was weak, whiny, had a childish temper and he never really got his stuff together. Daniel just loved around his neuroses. Daniel could do better but the heart wants what the heart wants. The story was simple enough but as usual with Scott it’s too simple. A good story doesn’t need endless angst but it does need challenges and character growth. If everyone’s problems could be solved this easily...argh! It just doesn’t work this way! I’ve just come to the conclusion Scott has no idea how to end a book. Done & done.
Well, there was something really charming about this book…
And his name is DANIEL. Sigh.
Look Christian, I know life has given you a sack o’ lemons. But you’ve got your old college crush all over you telling you everything you’d ever want to hear from a man. And he is a MAN…tall, NYPD, man of integrity, rich, kind, steadfast…and he WANTS you. So, get your head out of your woe-is-me bucket and grab on with both hands and don’t let go!
The story was surprisingly…angsty…for a short holiday read. Geeky Christian has gone through some trauma over the years since he was a senior in college and English TA to the younger Daniel. And he’s hit a rut, hiding from life, licking his wounds, working in a bakery in NY.
Daniel, his big college crush, the one he let get away, comes back into his life years later…and he’s got stars in his eyes for Christian. Daniel is a DREAM BOAT and will not let Christian get away again.
Throw in some danger, a hospital scene (I wish the the disapproving parents part was left out of the book. It was unnecessary, it resolved itself too quickly in a truly unbelievable way, and left me a bit grouchy), and a lot of inner insecurities/uncertainties, and we’re talking borderline Amy Lane angst-fest here.
But, everything ends up the way it should in a RJ Scott Christmas novella, and I was pleasantly sucked into the journey of this couple. It all happens a bit quickly, but it was entertaining and sweet.
This was ok. The two MC's definitely had chemistry going on but it was a little too sugary for my taste. Daniel seemed way to perfect. He said all the right things, which was completely unrealistic. He was radiating romance in every direction.
Let's not forget the insta-love factor.
I enjoyed Ame and there were several times that I did smile so I do not regret reading it. This just was not my cuppa.

Christian and Daniel met in collage and 7 years later Daniel went looking for Christian and they started to date. It was a sweet story but not enough detail.
Nota: 5'5 Ha estado bien el libro, me ha gustado. Pero le falta profundidad. Chris es muy inseguro, pero no sé trabaja, y Daniel está enamoradísimo. Fin. Es muy superficial. La historia daba para más
I loved this story when I read it as it was posted online, so I was more than happy to find out that it had been "extensively re-written and only the ideas in it remain" and would be published in time for Christmas!
Except that... it doesn't really seem like there was much of a rewrite, just that a few new scenes from Daniel's POV were added to what was there before, maybe some other scenes cleaned up a bit. That's it.
Despite how much I loved it, the free online version still seemed incomplete and a bit lacking when it was taken down in preparation for publication. Chris still seemed to be feeling his way through this new relationship, still seemed to be adjusting and finding himself again after what happened with the private school, and I had hoped that the published version would show more of Chris's growth, both as an individual and has half of a relationship, but this published version doesn't really fill in those missing parts and the ending is as conveniently neat as before. It's really not much different from the online version except with a bit of bonus!Daniel-pov! parts thrown in to make it longer.
So... this is all to say that, while I still like the story, I also came away feeling a bit let down.
I would have given this one three stars if Chris hadn't been quite such a spineless wimp. He was willing to let lies and innuendo completely destroy his career. Not exactly the kind of rousing spirit one hopes to find in a hero.
This is a great Christmas story, from the slow build of a romantic relationship that is long overdue, through some very angsty territory, all the way to lives being threatened, and a perfectly adorable ending. And even though Christmas isn’t really at the heart of the story, Chris and Daniel's love is the focus, it is a perfect example of the Christmas spirit. Of course, the setting of New York in December and January may have something to do with it. Two of my favorite scenes ere the lighting of the tree at Rockefeller center and the two guys going ice skating. The latter was hilarious!
Chris has been through hell, the man he loved having disowned and publicly humiliated him. Well, not directly, but he let the accusations Chris's previous employer made stand, which, in my opinion, is the same thing. And Chris being anything but a fighter, he slipped into depression and is still trying to deal with everything. His self-esteem is at an all-time low when Daniel, a man he used to tutor when they were in college, reappears in his life. Chris decides to take what he can get before Daniel discovers the truth and runs for the hills, and I really felt for Chris. He's a great guy and the fact he can't believe anyone would be interested in him, despite all the signals Daniel gives off, just shows the depths of his depression.
Daniel is an absolutely amazing guy. He may have been a bit of a player in college, which is an image not easily forgotten by Chris, but is deadly serious about going after Chris eleven years since they last saw each other. Daniel is also interesting because he is rich enough to never have to work a single day in his life, yet he decided to become a cop. Against his parents' wishes and advice, he knows he needs to feel useful, and keeping NYC streets safe is the best way he can think of. I only wish we'd found out more about him, he is definitely a fascinating enough character to deserve more "air time".
If you like love stories that are as romantic as they are hot, if you enjoy a book that is full of Christmas spirit and bursts at the seams with its message of hope, and if you're looking for a read that balances humor, deep emotions, and a great setting, you will probably like this novella.

Boring...... Chris, a teacher who lost his job at a private school after some scandal, being set up by his ex. He's too afraid to fight back and instead works at a friend's coffee shop. I found him a very bland, mousy character. Cop Daniel on the contrary, seemed to be overly perfect. Good looking, very rich, being a cop instead of working at his dad's company, kind, steadfast, .....
They first met in college where they had a crush on each other, but at the time Daniel felt himself not worthy of Chris. Now years later, Daniel has settled in his life and searches for Chris. One day before Thanksgiving they meet again and at first Chris is very reserved, being sure that Daniel could never be interested in him. But Daniel is consistent and after a few days of wooing (during which they honestly didn't appear like I'd expect for men around their thirties) everything goes very quickly.
It all happened so very fast, that to me it felt superficial and lacking deep emotions.
A nice story about two men who secretly wanted each other as college students who find each other again several years later.
I think I have loved every book I have read by this author. New York Christmas is no exception. It is a sweet story about second chances. Daniel and Chris are from entirely different worlds but they are perfect for each other. It takes a lot for both to overcome insecurities (and other issues) to finally get it right. When they do, it's perfect.
It's so fluffy with a smidge of sexual tension I'm gonna die!
I do love friends to lovers or in this case former T.A & Student to lovers...this kind of prior relationship makes the story all the more gratifying (for me anyway).
These guys have a few things that they either need to over come or that comes between them that they need to maneuver around while trying to figure out how to make their relationship work. The do a fabulous job of it and I'm glad I was able to follow along with them.
This one will definitely go into my Christmas favorites!
While I'm waiting for the December Christmas stories, I'm reading past years holiday treats. I haven't read "New York Christmas" before, and I really like RJ Scott's writing. In sum: I loved it. Chris is endearing with his shy awkwardness and insecurities. Daniel is a hot, confident bi cop. It's a sweet, sentimental romance with a little heat and a significant HEA. Recommended.
A sweet story and light reading for Yuletide. All about a love lost and found again, chances missed and new opportunities, with a feel good HEA, all in all very well written and entertaining. I also really liked the cover of the book!
Fast. The love was fast. The pace was fast. The angst was fast. The book just spend on til the end. It was an enjoyable story. Nice quick holiday story.
Overall book rating: 3 Audio Book: Sean Crisden – 3.5 Book Cover: 3.5
Christmas stories always gets away with more than the usual in my book. Maybe because I expect over the top gooey HEA, and so I don’t really get worked up my all the sweetness.
Personally I was looking forward to the “looking him up after 10 years” angle. It didn’t turn out the way I hoped. But it was still a nice little in-between.
I liked Daniel, though that doesn’t mean I “get” him... Chris.. well. I don’t feel like he had so much going for him except the adorable nerd thing, and that didn’t last all that long either. Not too much growing between the two MC. They just were. This could have been even better with a little more getting to know each other?
First of all, there is no way this book it 227 pages. Nuh uh! It's probably a lot closer to the 121 pages listed on one of the other editions.
Aside from this, it's a great, fluffy romp. A little angst tied to how Chris lost his teaching job, but none of it lasts too long as expected in a short story. We are given a look into a bit more than 2 months of this couple's lives. I wouldn't mind a revisit with this couple to see Chris with more confidence thanks to Daniel's love.
