Today I am handling the 800's and 900's (literature and history). I found yet another expensive tome that is not being used. It is the Revised and Expanded Speaker's Lifetime Library by Leonard & Thelma Spinrad. In its handy "Day and Date Book" section I thumbed to today's date: October 19th. Three events were listed. 1) Sir Thomas Browne was born, 1605. 2) Lord Cornwallis surrendered at Yorktown, VA, 1781. 3) Journalist H.R. Ekins completed an around the world flight in 18.5 days, 1936. Tomorrow, October 20th, marks the day General Douglas MacArthur stepped ashore at Leytem, in the Philippines, 1944. The day after tomorrow, October 21st, marks the day Thomas A. Edison demonstrated the incandescent electric lamp, 1879. My, what a week to celebrate! Almost makes one wish for one's own bedside copy of the book.

This is an absolute necessary resource for public speakers. Templates, outlines and topical suggestions are included in this book. This is more than a 'how-to-..." book. I cannot say that I have read it cover-to-cover but I have read large portions and chapters in it. This is a valuable reference for anyone who speaks in public.
