The Cowboy's Christmas Miracle

Rate this book
Deke Malone got an early Christmas present—an almost-two-year-old son! Parenthood had never been among Deke's priorities, but being a dad is the hardest, and best, thing he's ever done. And it takes him back home to Montana—determined to give his boy a family, and his parents a grandson.

Deke hadn't expected to find widowed mom Erin Jones there, too. Years ago, she'd been his best friend. And Erin is just as surprised to see Deke—especially with a son! She had once been madly in love with him, but so much has changed. Surely they wouldn't get a second chance…or would they?

After all, this was Christmas—the season of miracles and of love.

I voluntarily read an advanced reader's copy of this book for a honest opinion.

An extraordinary storyline that grabbed me from the first chapter. The Cowboy's Christmas Miracle by Anne McAllister. It had family connections, old friendships, coming home and small town. Everything you would enjoy in a romance.

Daniel “Deke” Malone was going back home for Thanksgiving. The one place he swore he would never go back to. But the real news is Isaac “Zack” Daniel Ashton, his son, who he just found out about, and he is two and a half years old. Zack’s mother was Violet Ashton a nice woman who liked adventure and photography just like Deke. They had similar backgrounds regarding their fathers. They both decided they never wanted children. They would see each other once every blue moon for a good time. Once their needs were met which was all very clinical as far as the sex.

Nothing romantic at all. Was there friendship and admiration for each of their jobs for work? Yes!
Something happened. Something got lost in translation in the decision, they both made in “no children”. She ended up keeping the baby, and now that he met Zack he wouldn’t change anything, yet Violet never told him. Violet Ashton, she had had his child? The Violet who’d climbed Everest? Who’d ridden camels to Marrakesh? The woman who’d spent a season at the South Pole?

However, she didn’t make it back from a photo shoot in Chile unfortunately, she had drowned. When Zack was left as a seventeen-month-old, Deke was then given the birth certificate, and clearly, Deke’s name was his father. Plus, she had a friend she had told, about who Zack’s father was. Just not him. Now, they were driving from Santa Fe to Montana to see his family. His mom and siblings want to see and meet him. Everybody was coming to the first and undoubtedly, last Malone family Thanksgiving dinner.

The very thought made Deke’s stomach clench. No one held a gun to his head. His parents weren’t even expecting him. No reason for them to be? He hadn’t been home in fifteen years. Because he had, stayed away. He had never met his two brothers-in-law and his twin nieces. They all wanted to meet his son, too. For Deke, the camera had always been an extension of his arm. His father never saw it that way. His belief was the family should be content in putting their all into the grocery store, their bread and butter.

He ate, drank, and breathed the grocery store. But back in the day while at Montana State, not long after he graduated. He had seen a very different life for himself in his future. He saw himself with his camera in hand and going off to Paris to take pictures, work, and maybe take some master classes.
Once his grandpa gave him the camera, and he combined it with his love of the outdoors, horses, and cattle. He got to see the world differently, and it wasn’t in or looking out of the windows of the family grocery store.

His dad disagreed until it came to a head, and Deke walked out. Fifteen years later, and this will be his first time back. Took jobs where he could and photos when he could. Well, he was back in town, and neither of his parents knew he was coming. He knew his mom would be excited, but his dad? His mom was speechless, then excited as Deke introduced them. His father, John Malone, in no way was that man budging an inch. “Don’t go expectin’ your mother to take care of that boy because you haven’t got a wife.”

Deke wondered after all the years that passed, if they would understand each other better. Maybe they both had found peace in their lives and could move on. Did he even want to move on? Or was last night just a shock? What could he expect from his dad on Thanksgiving? Driving to his sister’s, he thought about his best friend Erin Jones from high school, who now lives in Paris, his confidante, his soul mate, his friend. His father had no clue how successful Deke was, and he could buy the family store three times over. However, he doesn't know because all of the family avoids speaking his name.

See how this book takes you on a wild ride of emotions. The characters are solid, and so is the storyline. This author does not sugarcoat, the flaws all families have. The good times, bad times, fun and funny times, as well as the tearful times too.

I'm coming into this series very late, given that there are 17 books so far and this is book 15.

The Cowboy's Christmas Miracle sounded hopeful, festive and realistic and it was all of those things. I loved Deke's story as well as Erin's. The taking a chance, and the second chance theme was well shown, and I was thinking "Will things work out? I hope so."

It's best you get a copy of this to find out what happens, and I'm glad it is part of a series, because I have a lot to catch up on once I find the books :)

Thanks to Anne McAllister.

The Cowboy’s Christmas Miracle is a lovely story with characters that I had no difficulty empathising with. Deke Malone is just swoonworthy as a single father and my heart broke for him over his fractured relationship with his own father. Meanwhile, Erin, his teenage best friend and now a widow with three children, makes a perfect mach for him. It’s clear that despite a deep and abiding love for her deceased photo-journalist husband Jean Yves, she still feels for Deke. I liked the way the children featured in this story, bringing these two lonely adults together and making a new family.

A second chance Christmas romance with hidden feelings, family drama, and great characters. I liked the main characters and their relationship. You have a very cute toddler, entertaining children who really add to the story, the Christmas setting, and the required HEA. I really enjoyed this story.
This is the third book in a series. It does mention many characters that I believe are from previous books in the series (I have not read them) but this can be read as a standalone.

I liked this book, especially the part where the father and son somewhat erased the wall between them. Coming back home to run his dad's store while his dad recovered from the heart attack was a big thing. Dad admitting that son's photography was very good was another big thing.

Getting together with his best friend was huge.

The Cowboy's Christmas Mirale

I loved this story for many reasons. All the characters are amazing and the storyline was so well written. The family dynamics were so real and heart- warming. It makes you realize how important open, honest communication is between the ones you love. This is a great holiday book.

Destined to be together

Both Deke and Erin had grown up as best friends. It was never the right time for them. Erin was now a widow with 3 children and Deke a father to a son. By coming together once again it awoke all sorts of emotion in them making them realise that they actually loved each other. Christmas made it obvious that they were always destined to be together.

A heartwarming story. The two main characters were likeable, and their romance was sweet. This book is being re:released through, so I'm unsure if there is any changes from the original. Overall, and enjoyable story. *I received an ARC of this book and this is my voluntary and honest review.

Wonderful reunion story. Deke was stunned when a social worker showed up at his home with a twenty month old boy she said was his. The little boy's mother, a fellow photographer, had never told him she was pregnant. With her death, Deke is all that little Zack has.

Deke had never planned on having a family. His own relationship with his father wasn't good and Deke figured that family life wasn't for him. It turned out that being Zack's dad was the best thing to ever happen to him. It also made him think that it was time to mend fences, so he and Zack headed to Montana for Thanksgiving. He doesn't really expect much welcome from his father. John Malone had spent a lot of time belittling Deke's dreams of being a photographer. He wanted Deke to run the family grocery store and made no secret of his opinion. By the time he left college, Deke had had enough and left home. He hadn't been back in fifteen years.

I felt bad for Deke. While his welcome from his mom and sisters was everything he could hope for, his dad was just as dismissive as ever. Even though he hadn't expected anything to be different, he had still hoped for something better, and was hurt and angry at his father's attitude. After leaving his parents' house, he found himself instinctively driving toward his old friend Erin's house, even though he knew she was living in Paris. Since he was friends with her family, he continued on to see them, and was surprised to see Erin was there after all.

Erin had been in love with Deke when they were teenagers, even though he only saw her as a friend. Once she accepted that he would never think that way about her, she pursued her own photography dreams in France. There she met and married a photojournalist, and had a happy twelve years and three kids with him, before he was killed during one of his trips. She brought her kids home to Montana to be near her family. She never expected to see Deke again, much less with a child. Seeing him was a shock, and brought back the memories of how she used to feel about him. Erin was afraid that spending any time with him would devastate her when he left again.

Deke was thrilled to see Erin again, and was looking forward to catching up with her. He was a bit surprised by her cool reception. But the next evening, after her family and his had attended a showing of his photographs, he found himself on her doorstep. Erin was the one who had always helped him through confrontations with his father, and there he was again. This time, though, there was something else flaring between them, and he was surprised to find himself looking at her in a whole new way. They indulged themselves in a brief period of passion, knowing that Deke was leaving, and there was no future for them, especially as Deke still doesn't see marriage in his life.

Fate has a way of interfering in the best laid plans. Deke's father has a heart attack, and Deke finds himself staying and running the grocery store while his father recovers. He can't handle the idea of staying with his parents at this time, so he asks Erin if he and Zack can stay at her house with her and her kids. Erin is reluctant at first, because she can see that it will be way to easy to fall for him again. And as the weeks go on, Deke and Zack do work their way into her heart and life, and the lives of her children. Deke was surprised by how right it felt to be staying with Erin. Even working the grocery store is made bearable by being able to go home to her each day.

I loved seeing Deke's whole outlook on life change, as first he takes to being Zack's dad, and then becomes part of Erin's family. It was great to see how wonderful he was with Erin's kids, and how easily they blended together. Thanks to his father's attitude toward him, Deke is wary of rejection, and even as he finally realizes that he loves her, he can't bring himself to say the words. He nearly wrecks it all at the end before he realizes what he did, and manages to fix it. The ending was terrific, and even Deke's dad redeems himself.

I received an arc of The Cowboy’s Christmas Miracle from Tule publishing in exchange for an honest review. This is the third book in Anne McAllister’s series, Cowboy, Come Home. This book features Deke Malone. He is originally from Montana but had moved to Santa Fe after he and his father disagreed about his career path. His father wanted him to stay and work in the family’s small grocery store and Deke wanted to pursue a career in photography. He left after he graduated and didn’t return. Also, we meet Erin Jones. She has recently returned to her home town with her 3 children after her husband died. She had been Deke’s best friend in high school and college but she was secretly in love with him. Like Deke, she was a photographer. She tried to get him to go to Paris with her after college. Erin met her husband there and they lived happily in Paris until he was killed on assignment. Both Erin and Deke’s siblings and friends have appeared in other books by Anne.

As the book opens, Deke is returning to Montana for Thanksgiving for the first time since he left. He recently found out he had a son with a woman from his past. She passed away and the social worker notified him. He wants his family to meet little Zack and he has a gallery exhibit in his hometown. Unfortunately his dad still has issues with him. He leaves the Thanksgiving dinner abruptly and heads over to his friend Taggart’s ranch. Much to his surprise, Erin is there too at her brother’s ranch along with her kids and the rest of the family. Deke wants to talk to Erin because she was always the one he confided in when he had problems with his dad. Erin realizes that her old feelings for Deke never died and believes he is just looking for a friend. She tries to maintain a distance since she knows he will be leaving again in a day.

The gallery showing is well attended by his family and friends, including Erin. The two spend some time alone after the showing and give into their desires. Erin vows to never let it happen again to keep from being heartbroken. It makes Deke examine his feelings for Erin. Is more than friendship there? The next day his dad ends up in the hospital and Deke decides to stay in town to help. He asks Erin if he and Zack can stay with her. She isn’t happy about it because she is worried about her feelings towards him, but agrees. The two spend time together with their children and talk. The children all start to become attached and happy with the living arrangements. However, the couple is reluctant to let the other know how they feel and they aren’t certain what the future will bring. There’s lots of angst and hidden feelings and desires.

This is another fabulous story by Anne. I really like both Deke and Erin and enjoy the connections to the characters in the other books in the various series she has written. It is enjoyable to see them in this book too. They both have tragedy in their pasts yet they’ve overcome it and are working together towards a happy future. I look forward to the next book.

This is book three in The Cowboy Comes Home series and it is Deke Erin’s story. Deke left home sixteen years ago and became a renowned photographer but imagine his surprise when he finds out that he has a son that he knew nothing about and when he has a showing close to his hometown Deke decides to try and close the rift between him and his father and also introduce his son to his family especially as his son has become his world and made him realise that family is everything. Erin is now a widow and has three children so after her husband died she decided to move back to her hometown and try to move forward with her life without her husband even though she knows that it will not be easy. Deke and Erin used to be best friends and now years later they meet again and there is definitely a attraction between them and what Deke didn’t know is that Erin had been in love with him before he left so will this be there second chance to not only be together but also build a future. I really enjoyed this book and even though it dealt with some difficult situation that was not easy it was written with so much care and compassion. This is a beautiful second chance romance that i read in one sitting because i was unable to put it down and i cant wait to read more books by this author in the future.

After almost 16 years, Deke Malone is returning home with his son of 20 months. A little boy he knew nothing of a couple of months ago, and the one that has stolen his heart.
When Deke left to become a renown photographer, his father was not kind to him. But now with a child, a showing of his pictures to open close to town, and at the request of one of his sisters, he’s back for a visit.
Whom he never expected to see again was his childhood best friend Erin Jones. Now a widow with three kids, she too left town to study in Paris and fell in love with a photojournalist. What Deke never knew was that even at a young age, Erin had fallen in love with him.
As they both deal with their families, life and the holidays, Deke , who thought he would be leaving town right after his show, is reassessing his future.
Will these two realize that life has given them a second chance or will the past and Deke’s relationship with his family have him leaving it all behind once again?
This was a touching story about the complexities of family relationships. It’s also a story about reassessing priorities and realizing that sometimes we are granted second chances in life and love.
I was entrusted a copy of this book by Tule Publishing. The opinions expressed are solely my own.

The Cowboy's Christmas Miracle ~Cowboy, Come Home# 3, Anne McAllister
I am reviewing an updated publication on 2nd November 2023 from Tule Publishing, and not sure how much it differs from the one showing here.

I have found a new author in Anne McAllister, I found this book to be very well written, and the chemistry between the two main characters Deke and Erin wonderful and full of hope. The storyline was written so well that is believable and could be found in real life.
I found this to be quite emotional and heartwarming at times and brought both Deke and Erin to life it's touching, and realistic with such likable and relatable characters—such a good read. I highly recommend it, also I liked it so much that I have purchased the two previous books, and the characters in those seem to pop up in this one too.
Reasons I enjoyed this book:
Easy-to-read, Entertaining, Happily Ever After, Inspirational, Page-turner, Realisti, and Wonderful characters
