A mother and daughter suffers the slings and arrows of their adversarial relationship as they act out their outwardly ordinary suburban existence. A first novel.
This was a coming of age story that held my interest from the first sentence throughout the book. What I really liked is that the growth of all of the family members, including extended family members, was revealed as the narrator ages from 11 to 18 during the course of the book.
Sandra Tyler really know how to whip up a good story line! Although it can be a little slow at times, Ms. Tyler keeps you entertained for the most part. For me it was an easy read, no harsh substance through most of it. Just a relaxing read without the deep thinking involved. Overall good. A good read if you're looking for a book to keep you entertained, but not have to think.
Blue Glass made me cry more times than I'd like to admit. The agonizingly slow path to divorce, mother clinging to her husband as they grow apart, the grandfather with Alzheimer's...it's all told from the perspective of a girl, growing from age 10 to 18 over the course of the book, but you can feel it from the perspective of the adults as well.
