KEIRA
I woke up next to a monster. Literally.
As a Hollywood producer I thought I’d seen everything. Until I met Luke.
My company passed on his movie pitch—a convoluted story about how monsters are real—but Luke and I have instant chemistry.
I don’t expect this sweet, charming guy to be dominant and demanding in bed, but he is, and it’s the best night of my life.
The next morning...

LUKE
I’m exhausted. That’s my only excuse for falling asleep and forgetting to stay human.
The moment I saw Keira all I could think was “mine,” and though I messed up the dinner date, once I put my (human) hands on her I knew just what to do.
Even better, Keira wasn’t afraid when I got possessive and rough with her delectable body.
After a night of passion I fall asleep, and turn back into a monster.

Keira’s terrified…but not for long. She’s smarter and braver than anyone I’ve ever met. She and her friends agree to help us, but not everyone is ready to find out that monsters are real...

3.5

Review of ARC.

I really appreciated the excellent communication between the FMC and MMC, inside and outside of the bedroom.

Spicy monster sex.

I did run into quite a few typos, grammatical weirdness, and duplicated words. If not for that, it would have been a solid 4 star. As is, 3.5. I hope this got a further edit before being published.

One last note, for the life of me I could not wrap my head around the idea of these monsters seeking out a movie production team instead of a PR team who would suggest public image, social media, tv, and movies. It came full stop for me every time I thought about it. Which was pretty much every time they discussed what they were trying to do and why. It really took me out of the story because, for me, it just didn't make sense.

I received this as an ARC and this is my honest review.

This is my first time reading anything from this author. I found this delightfully spicy (spice starting within the first 20%). The relationship between Luke and Keira was absolutely fantastic. Where I seemed to lose some interest was with the production company itself.

Luke is a gargoyle. He and two other monster friends go to Hollywood in hopes of fixing their image among humans. Not wanting to make any mistakes in the human world he initially comes across as hesitant and very careful. He's naive and unsure in the human world, bolder and dominant in his own element.

Keira is a strong, independent, woman who joined with four friends to create Calypso Productions, a cutting-edge Hollywood production studio. She's the creative director and one of the producers, who isn't afraid to reach out and take what she wants.

Luke and his friends bungle their pitch to the women. Hoping to change their mind he takes Keira to dinner. Their heat has them tumbling into bed, but when morning comes Luke accidentally outs himself.

This story was previously released in 2008 as 'Lights, Camera... Monster.' Dubois has made revisions as well as expanded on the original release. So, I was surprised to see editing errors. I love Lila Dubois and her stories but this one just seemed to be missing something. Normally I fall into her stories, feeling all the feels but I never felt like I broke the surface of this book. There are definitely some great scenes but more than once I felt like I was being told how things were, rather than experiencing it. I was left wishing for a bit more story to go with all the spice. An interesting first book in the 'Monsters in Hollywood' series.

Author warning: the story includes gargoyle-on-human sex scenes. While warnings are always appreciated, I didn't find anything squicky about the scenes, kinky... yes... squicky? not really.

Received as an ARC read.

I don’t read very many monster romance books. I signed up on to read this one because it isn’t that I like them, but they usually just aren’t my thing.

This one follows three gargoyle creatures that go by the names of Luke, Michael and Henry (when you find out near the end where they got their names…adorable!) who show up in LA to a production company run by women because they want to tell their creature story to save their kind and stop a war that could be coming between humans and gargoyles. They snuck off to do this little project of theirs and have a spell worked onto their back that makes them appear human.

Kiera is like the lead of the production company and after the guys mess up the meeting has a dinner meeting with Luke who is going to re-pitch to her. He ends up having a night of amazing sex and they get addicted to each other. The bad thing is that if he isn’t actively holding the spell in place it wears off…after that first night she found out what he was and after her first freak out and calm down she seemed to be fine with it.

Luke is the only one in the group of three that changes back in forth in form. They do end up being followed so there is a baddie of sorts that they have to find that keeps attacking Keira.

Not a bad little read. Got it read in a day so it is an easy read. Does come with TW.

Monster Without a Cause by Lila Dubois is book 1 in the Monsters In Hollywood series.
I'm so happy I got an ARC of this book. It's fast-paced, entertaining, and easy to read. The world-building was excellent and contained some spice, emotions, humor, action, and suspense.
Luke is a gargoyle who, together with his friends, has a mission. He was sweet, swoony, and such a passionate, attentive lover.
Keira was a strong heroine. I loved that when Luke was in gargoyle form, she could see past that and knew that inside, his heart was still Luke. She realized the inside of a person is important and not the outside.
The steamy scenes were scorching hot, there was anal play, spanking, and they did it while Luke was in his gargoyle form.
I loved how well this couple communicated and could tell each other what they wanted in bed.
I can't wait to read the second book in this series!
If you love monster romance, you can't miss out on Monster Without a Cause!

Luke’s Really A Monster & Keira is Human: They Shouldn’t Work, But They Do!

Luke is a monster, literally, and he needs the help of Keira and her partners to tell their story but with little information, they turn them down. Except Keira is drawn to Luke and they meet for dinner and decide to continue their night by taking it back to her place and she has the night of her life. The next morning is another story. Keira found out that “Monsters are real” and after her initial shock she gets upset until she figures out Luke is the monster. Then it gets interesting, not only does Keira and Company decide to help, Luke and Keira start to figure out, they care about each other more than either one of them is willing to admit. But then they find that someone doesn’t want them to succeed when Keira is hurt, and Luke is ready to lose it especially when he and his friends figure out who hurt her.

It took a bit to get into the book at first, as it is not what I am used to from Lila, it’s not bad, just different. The more I read, the characters caught my attention and by the end of the book, I was glad I finished reading it.

I've read my fair share of paranormal romance but I've never run across a gargoyle. But why not? Lila Dubois knows how to put kinky in romance and Monsters Without A Cause definitely fills the bill. Luke is a gargoyle and for lack of a better descriptor calls himself a monster. He along with two friends know that somehow they must get humankind to accept that they and monsters can co-exist. The monsters are in need of a new image. What better way to get a story across than a movie or TV series? Enter Kiera, her four best friends and their highly successful production team. Finding out what Luke really is comes as a shock but she's drawn to this gentle man with courtly manners and a bit dated outlook on relationships but in the bedroom....well let's just say he's in control. As with any relationship there are rough spots but with Luke, Kiera can fulfill her needs and fantasies. Falling in love with a monster certainly wasn't she ever dreamed of and yet he gives her everything that she every wanted, desired or dreamed of in both his human and monstor form.

An Unusual Client!!!!

Calypso Productions is run by five best friends. They are currently in a place where they are not taking new business. Three gorgeous men make a request. Kiera agrees to meet Luke for dinner to discuss further. He is hesitant to go into details, but relays the urgency of their project.

Kiera is interested in having “a night” if nothing else. She wakes to a monster. The trio are not human, and need to “introduce” themselves to humans to let them know they are not a danger to humans - actually quite the opposite is true.

Will these women take this risk? Luke is able to “see” emotions, and knows (and greatly dislikes) that Kiera fears him when surprised by him. Her intelligence knows that in either form it is the caring, sweet person of Luke no matter what the form. She especially likes his controlling persona when things get personal.

Interesting premise, definitely well delivered. I Hope there will be more in the near future!!

Cute and spicy!

I was lucky enough to grab an ARC of this book and I am so glad I was able to.

Luke and Keira were great together. Luke and his friends come to Kiera and her friends to hopefully find help with exposing the world to monsters. Though Kiera and her group don’t know that the guys are not human yet, Keira takes Luke on a date and fun times ensue.

Spice starts from 9% into the book and is pretty consistent all the way through. Kiera is not afraid to tell Luke what she wants, and Luke has a dominant side. The spicy scenes are well written and graphic, no fade to black here at all.

While a majority of the book is about Keira coming to terms with being in love with a monster and trying to figure out the logistics of that type of relationship, there is an added conflict that further pushes the plot and will tie in the subsequent books.

Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️

Check trigger warnings if needed.

I will 100% be reading the neck book in the series.

(ARC review) I don’t have a hard time admitting that I love “monster romance”. From shifters, which seem to overpopulate the genre, to vampires and others. I was very excited to read a gargoyle romance. This book was spicy in all the best ways. The book's best part is still to come. It surprised me how much I loved the well-written fight-or-flight scenes. The truth of how a human would react to monsters being real and the almost funny, unexpected revelation..the panic, the sheer primal terror. It made the MC even more amazing in her logic and her willingness to rise above her fear. As someone who has anxiety. I ADORED those moments when she talks herself down..when she can. Lila is an excellent storyteller who immerses you in the characters' emotions and surroundings. Can't wait for the next book!

I received this book as an advanced reading copy for review purposes.

I loved this book! I have always loved to read monster human romance but had gotten tired of werewolf stories. So this monster being a gargoyle was truly a fun take on the standard. Luke's species survival depends on convincing Humans that monsters are not as scary as history makes them seem. He and his friends plan to convince Kiera's movie production company make a movie that will change humans reactions. The book's ending sets up a sequel perfectly.

Fair warning this is a Spicy novel with several spicy scenes both in Luke's human and gargoyle form.

Ohh, monsters! Way to take it to a new level Lila! Imagine wanting, no needing to tell your story. Where would you go? Of course to Hollywood. Three monsters make their way to Hollywood to ask for help and get their story out to the world. One of those monsters finds love. I sense there could be another book in the making, because there seemed to be a hint of more monsters falling for humans. :)

Loved it. So lifelike - because if I woke up next to a monster, I would freak out too. Real life emotions in a romantic monster fable.

I absolutely loved it! It had it all instalove, fastpaced, humor, action, steam and spice… 🤩

Like the writing style a lot, it gave me a very good and organic reading experience.

I liked that it wasn’t the “one look and.. mate!” It build up… although the instant lust and attraction was there!
It’s the beginning of a quest which by itself for me is a page turner.
Love the main male character, and the dualism in his personality is the cherry in the top.

Read it in one sitting started today and paused to eat basically 😉

My only complaint is that as soon as I finished I wanted more 😊

I admit, I'm a gargoyle fan girl so when I had the chance to receive an ARC copy of this story I jumped at the chance

This was my first time reading anything from Lila but I love, love her writing style. World building and characters have depth and make the story dynamic on top of the spicy 🔥🔥🔥. Definitely check out the trigger warnings to make sure it is your cup of tea because they are real.

Love how strong the FML and that she doesn't mess around. And that she pairs well with the Male leas that is just as strong but also ADORABLE. Reading their 🔥 scenes also 10/10.

Ok, so this is new to me I don't read Spicy Romance aka (porn) however this was pretty good I do like the story I wish there was more story then sex but that's just me picking cause I don't normally read this type of book I'm a horror girl. But all in all I liked it and would like to continue reading this series even though I could careless about the amount of sex in this book, but like I said I don't read spicy romance so I have nothing to compare it to as in too much or too little. I received this as an ARC and voluntarily choose to reveiw.

Love these characters and their journey…

Monsters are real! But they as a species have a problem. How best to get help but to put it in the public eye as a movie. Keira and her friends have a production company and when Luke proposes a monster movie to them they totally write it off. But Keira and Luke have a connection and one date turns into a whole lot more. This really cool mythology drives a falling in love story that is about half kinky sexy times and the rest a feels fest you’ll love.

This book was incredible.

Give me a guy like Luke any day!

Luke and his three friends travel to Hollywood to tell their story. Enter Kiera and her friends and their production company. After spending the night with Luke, Kiera wakes up next to a literal gargoyle. What follows is an insane adventure of figuring out how to tell the guys’ story and yes, lots of spice.

This book has everything. Cinnamon roll hero, kink, fiery heroine, SPICE.

I read an earlier version of this book that came out some years ago (Lights, Camera…Monsters), and I vaguely remember the storyline. I don’t usually read much paranormal, but I thought this was well-written and interesting. I wish there had been more character backstory and development, however, but it was an overall enjoyable read. There are more characters in this book that will surely be showcased in the series.

Great story and characters in this super steamy monster love story. I couldn't put it down. Keira and Luke have awesome white hot chemistry and I can't wait to see who couples up next - and of course eventually what happens with the big reveal... oh! and what does Michael look like in his true form??? Great writing by Lila Dubois, as always, in this captivating romance. I loved it. 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

This is a fabulous book. The world building with the beautiful blending of the real and the supernatural was wonderfully done. The characters have many layers facets to them that they have to learn about, and incorporate as they build this relationship together. The spice was absolutely amazing! I just found a new favorite author!

Not a typical trope but done enthusiastically!

Dirty talking, which I love, and the steam that goes with that!

I definitely had smiles on my face throughout! So much FUN!!

A woman who does what she wants to get where she is and a monster who tires a human on for size. With a spice level of 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ and a story that is worth reading before and after the 🌶️🌶️🌶️s is chef’s kiss. Lila Dubois out did herself with this one. Highly recommend!!!

What I liked most about Luke was his ability to feel - whether it was passion or rejection, he took the actions and the words from others to heart. Keira may be the Hollywood elite, but he is the true star of the story.
