Millenear reads a book from the Vatican cathedrals secret archive. Preserved in its pages is the tragic story of Deshwitat and Kaluitkas entangled history. Laden with deception and cruelty, the story reveals the source of Deshwitats hatred toward his former friend Kaluitka. Ages 13+ nd killed his parents. Ages 13+
6th volume in this epic Korean vampire manga series. This is the first part of a flash back sequence, showing us Desh and Kal's tragic childhood and explaining why they are bitter enemies. From a story POV I have to say about bloody time!!!! It's only taken six books to get to this point. Pace isn't this series' strong point, in some cases we have a single battle lasting an entire book. Indeed this is only the first instalment of the lengthy flashback. It focuses on Desh and Kal - none of the other characters feature although the sneak peak promises we'll see Rhett in volume 7.
The story is enjoyable if unoriginal. I do so love the mixing of vampires and circus freakshows.
Artworkwise its as if the drawing has suddenly taken several steps backwards. I'm wondering if this was actually produced before some of the previous volumes (I mean it is a flashback). The drawings are a lot simpler, less detailed and less 'pretty.'
I was a bit disappointed with this volume although back story was long overdue. There's a lot better manga out there in a similar vein.
Not bad, but it was all a flashback boon to how Desh and Kal grew up and how they met. But also tbh Desh’s childhood was way more interesting than Kal. Like I don’t really need his backstory…I’m sure it’s supposed to help humanize him, but over all he’s still a piece of 💩.
Part of the new wave of manhwa (Korean manga) the 'Rebirth' series catalogues the story of a 17th century vampire named Deshwitat L. Rudbich, who has been released from 300 years of stasis by his enemy, the evil sorcerer Kalutika Maybus.
Volume Six details Deshwitat's past as set down in an old (and forbidden) book that was hidden in the Vatican's archives; a story which ends abruptly after the original author had been murdered by his own church superiors. Given the book by her former tutor at the Vatican, Millenear reads it before deciding that she will take up the story and complete the book for future generations...
