I don’t make a habit of reading Mangas. I’m sure I’m missing some good stuff but it’s not possible to read everything that’s out there. I found this one at a book sale for a quarter and got it. It’s volume 9 in the series and I’ve never seen the first 8 volumes so I came in well past the start. However, I didn’t find it difficult to understand the story and character relationships, and the author begins with a “what has gone before” piece and some character sketches, which was helpful. There’s a lot of action here. The art was quite good although the images are relatively small and there’s quite a bit of background hazing that cluttered the visual story for me. Those with more experience with Mangas probably wouldn’t be troubled. There was some inconsistency within the characters over the story. For example, two characters who are relatively antagonistic with each other in one section seem much closer friends elsewhere. Overall, I found it a quick and worthwhile read and will probably pick up the earlier volumes if I can find them.

Honestly this book was so good and I’m loving that we are getting this backstory on how Desh and Kal became friends. I like the direction this is going and I’m excited for when we get back to the present.

9th volume in the Korean manga vampire epic, this one follows directly on from book 8 continuing the 17th century flashback: A reluctant Desh joins forces with Kal and Rhett to protect Lilith and return her to her family.

The artwork and style is patchy, some of its very derivative but then you get some absolutely stunning panels an innovation. There are several panels with two characters (especially Rhett & Desh) one will comment and the other will reply. I felt like I'd entered a computer game like Soul Calibre or Tekken where the characters bait each other - "Aren't you dead yet?/I was catching my breath"

The budding romance between Desh and Lilith is lovely, you can't help but love the roguish Rhett Butler and Kal is becoming more fascinating by the minute. We learn in this one that he's not human, so just what is he? And what will drive him to go from being Desh's best friend to his archenemy?

One of the better books in the series to date.

Part of the new wave of manhwa (Korean manga) the 'Rebirth' series catalogues the story of a 17th century vampire named Deshwitat L. Rudbich, who has been released from 300 years of stasis by his enemy, the evil sorcerer Kalutika Maybus.

Volume Nine continues the story (from Volume 8) of how Deshwitat first met Rett and Kalutika, and saved the life of his future fiancee, Lilith...

Thankfully, the author provides a quick recap at the beginning of the book, since it takes so long for the Interlibrary Loans to come through.

The author is still giving us the background story between the protagonist and the antagonist, which I find interesting. I am looking forward, though, to the story returning to present time.

Surprises, surprises. This isn't going to end well.
Although, this volume feels somewhat like a filler volume. Nothing "Wow!"-special happens, it just gives us a chance to get to know the characters better. And well, there were those two surprise moments.
Still I enjoyed it very much.

Man I forget how much I love reading manga. I was kind of unsure about this series since it was one I had not heard of, but has turned to be very amusing.
