The final Scimitar Seas novel in the award-winning series! Between the devil and the deep blue sea… The expedition to Akrotia has succeeded; Cynthia’s baby is safe. But she and Feldrin both know that their trials are not over. The emperor demands answers for the destruction of his ships and deaths of his soldiers. Plume Isle has been ransacked by pirates, Dura has been captured by cannibals, and Camilla is acting like a woman possessed. And Edan, whose desire for revenge fuels the awakened city of Akrotia, is coming to burn them all. Cynthia’s bargain with the emperor is simple: she will stop Edan and Akrotia if he will give back all that she holds dear. But even with the aid of the entire imperial navy and a nation of merfolk, she does not know if she can destroy Akrotia. For to destroy Akrotia is to murder Edan, the poor scared boy who saved her son.
From the sea to the stars, Chris A. Jackson’s stories take you to the far reaches of the imagination. Raised on the back deck of a fishing boat and trained as a marine biologist, he became sidetracked by a career in biomedical research, but regained his heart and soul in 2009 when he and his wife Anne left the dock aboard the 45-foot sailboat Mr Mac to cruise the Caribbean and write fulltime. With his nautical background, writing sea stories seemed inevitable for Chris. His acclaimed Scimitar Seas nautical fantasies won three consecutive Gold Medals in the ForeWord Reviews Book of the Year Awards. His Pathfinders Tales from Paizo Publishing combine high-seas combat and romance set in the award-winning world of the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game. Not to be outdone, Privateer Press released Blood & Iron, a swashbuckling novella set in the Iron Kingdoms. Chris’ repertoire also includes the award-winning and Kindle best-selling Weapon of Flesh Series, the contemporary urban fantasy Dragon Dreams, as well as additional fantasy novels, the humorous sci fi Cheese Runners trilogy of novellas, and numerous short stories. I have read all four of the Scimitar Seas fantasy novels and enjoyed them thoroughly. Scimitar War brings the series to a satisfying conclusion after taking the reader on a journey filled with surprising twists and turns. Adventure on the high seas, pirates, cannibals, mages, merfolk, sprites and a chillingly wicked demon--this book has them all. Warning: Allot plenty of reading time because the book is almost impossible to put down. Jackson places not just his protagonist but all of his characters in grave peril and keeps the reader in constant suspense as to their fates. It's an exciting ride, a truly nail-biting experience.
I especially enjoy a book which not only tells a great story, which this does, and has vividly depicted characters whom I really care about, as this book does, but also lets me learn something new along the way. Chris Jackson is himself a mariner, and his intimate knowledge of boats and sailing provides his readers with the authentic feel of the sea and the intricacies of sailing.
I highly recommend this entire series to all lovers of fantasy and lovers of the sea and to anyone who just loves a great adventure story.
