Those are just a few of the hats Sam Goodno wears. Of the many, writing fantasy and science fiction is one of her favorites.

Sam also loves to take time to enjoy other activities such as photography and playing her favorite game of all time, Guild Wars 2.

I found Heart Song to be an enchantingly magical and heart-stoppingly enthralling story of how love can bind, transform, and strengthen two people and even entire groups of people if given generously and guided with wisdom. What a beautiful example of how we should love and treat each other! While these characters were just as flawed as we are, their ultimate intentions were full of hope and promise for how they wanted to change the world around them. I wonder how our world would change if we had the same desire and heart that these amazing characters portrayed. Now only would people notice a change for good, but perhaps they would also be inspired to make the same change in their own life and therefore continue on a phenomenal wave of change.
Relena is a girl whose life is less then hopeful, but she has done all she can to focus on the good in her life like her best friend Danst. When fate pushes her into the arms of Marren, her heart song, she finds her life changing yet again but in a breathtaking way that she hopes will never end. Their strained friendship blossoms into a magnificent love that was of much more significance then Relana could have ever imagined. Marren tried to help Relena understand the importance of their union and their love, but even he was bound by rules of his fellow Ancients in order to satisfy their demands to prove that what these two had were real. Will brutal requirements and harsh misunderstandings cost Relena and Marren everything that they have tried so hard to build, or will greater hopes and dreams destroy their love just as it begins to strengthen and bloom?
I couldn’t help but fall in love with Relena and Marren. They were both looking for the other half of their soul, and they found it in each other. They loved each other with no reservation and worked hard to nurture that love into something more beautiful than they ever allowed themselves to hope for. Their relationship along with its hardships perfectly echoes what we see in our own world when other people and their plans get in the way of allowing their love to grow and transform into something that lasts a lifetime. While the tests were necessary, Relena was left in the dark about everything she would have to endure in order to prove that her love for Marren was true and pure. The trials they endured nearly killed her, but when the truth was brought to light, they were able to appreciate each other that much more knowing how life would be without the other. The hard times make the good time that much brighter and even sweeter than they normally would be. They help us to love and cherish the other with more intensity and greater appreciation which helps transform our love into something that is steadfast and long-suffering.
Samantha LaFantasie has a brilliantly captivating talent in creating incredible worlds full of amazing and realistic characters that fight their way into your heart and engrain themselves into your very soul. Her tender heart and gentle spirit never ceases to move me to tears of both joy and sadness. I lose my heart to each of her characters, and I find that I don’t want it back. Walking around in her exquisite worlds leave my heart aching to know more and love harder. If you haven’t read one of her wonderful stories, you have no idea of the enthralling beauty and captivating magic that waves itself through each page and in every word that penetrates your heart.

DNF.

I swear I tried. However I just could not enjoy this book. There are so many inconsistencies, plot holes, random changes without buildups, lack of world building, and an annoying MC. For example, our MC claims to like solitude and dislikes romantic/intimate relationships, but falls for her kidnapper after a day or two and allows him to kiss her even after she told him she needs time. Our kidnapper was a town gaurd (or some sort of authority in the town? But now has endless free time to be with her. Our MC never even thinks about escaping.

Below are some quotes and my comments to show my frustration with this book.

"Ask any woman and she would tell you he’s perfect. Any one besides me, of course. I saw the flaws that made him otherwise."
First of all, that is a big assumption to make, and second of all, her mindset switches so quickly after this it's like she never even resisted his apparent attractiveness.

"he asked, then smiled. Any other girl would swoon, but not me. Luckily, I’m immune to such atrocities."
HA. Right. Not even a day alone with him amd she already wants his babies.

"To depend on myself, and no one else, appealed to me. Solitude also meant never getting hurt by anyone again. Before any of that could happen, I needed to go back home to grab my things."
??? I'm sorry but you were literally just chased out of town by the authority and now you want to go back a few hours later? How dumb are you??? And of course she gets caught.

"As the blindfold pulled away from my eyes, allowing them to adjust by blinking away the blur, I found myself standing in the foyer of a small palace. Everything was made from white stone, polished and gleaming. Beautiful."
Her first thoughts after being kidnapped and having her blindfold taken off. Not where she is, who took her, what they look like, how to escape ect.

"Your questions are best kept for Marren.” “Wonderful!” I threw my hands up into the air and stompped forward."
Childish. She is even incredibly rude to Enid who is doing his best to answer all her questions and has brrn nothing but kind to her.

"The soft lips… my heart did a strange flip before sinking lower. The shift in me scared me. I’m always careful to maintain better control of myself. I shifted my sight away from him and cleared my throat."
Right. Control. You're not even the same MC. Can't be. She saw his flaws and told him he wouldnt be able to charm her bc he is arrogant remember?

"and came to realize he appeared the same as he always did. For the entire time I’d known him, he hadn’t aged... “I’ve known you for five years, and in that time, you’ve never appeared any older.”
ok 5 years is not a big deal. And i did not think she knew him that long bc of how they act around each other? Like maybe a year at most but 5?

"What I’m about to tell you, and show you, is a lot to take in, but it’s important you understand exactly what you are getting yourself into before you get in too deep.”
He says after professing his love and then pressuring her into trying anyway when she said she is uncomfortable

"You should already know I wouldn’t have let you kiss me if I didn’t want you to.” Although, that might not be true."
Umm what??

I can't keep reading this one.

This
is one book that I highly recommend to those that love fantasy
stories. The author Samantha Lafantasie is definitely a perfectionist
and excelled extremely hard to bring this book to a completed work
for her readers. Even though this book is fictional/fantasy the
author wanted many aspects of this book to be original and she
researched hours upon hours of materials to bring this originality to
her readers. Not only that, but she even used some of her own
heritage and culture to bring this story to life! I also love that
the author honors her indigenous ancestry and is proud to announce
who her people are. As a native woman, it is always something special
For me to be able to review the work of other indigenous peoples. I
am so very pleased to have had the chance to review Lafantisie's
work. She gives her readers an adventurous ride with this book, with
some humorous aspects as well as love and drama!

Lafantasie
also throws in some unexpected twists in the plot that burn with
fire! The reader is left satisfied and complete at the end of this
fantastic fantasy/love story. I rate this book five stars and
encourage all those that are interested in fantasy or paranormal
aspects in fiction to go ahead and get this one today!

* I was given the book Heart Song in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are mine and I was not compensated for them.

Samantha LaFantasie has a lot of potential as a writer and it shows in Heart Song. She has that which cannot be learned: creativity and imagination. She creates an engaging world with a plot that starts with a bang as the main character, Relena, is running from those that would lock her up and do terrible things to her.

I truly enjoyed the story and, throughout most of the book, was driven to know what would happen next. The world she creates blends the paranormal with that of the more world-building centric branch of fantasy novels.

There was one scene I especially liked where she is sparing (with swords) and someone has to tell her to stop and breathe. I used to do Kendo and stopped after an incident where I basically stopped breathing during a sparing match. When the match was over, I about collapsed on the floor. This scene really rang true for me because of my experiences. I also enjoyed the irony of the immortals, who were outcasts themselves and anything but ordinary, being leery of outsiders. That is generally a human trait and while there were those of the immortal races that considered themselves above everyone else, many were insular and wary of people from the mortal realm, where all of their troubles arose.

I think the characters could have had more depth, but that is more of a personal preference. The book is good without it. I think it could have been more. I understood the lack of depth for Marren. He is frequently terse and trying to get information out of him is like pulling teeth. Nothing short of torture will do. But Relena is the main character and yet we know little of her past. In fact, a single incident shapes almost our entire knowledge of her past. It is a major event in her life, but it is still only one event. That and her relationship with her father are really all we know about her before she meets Marren, making her seem 2D at times. But, like I said, while I think it would have made for a far better book if we had more insight into the main character, the book was wonderful without it. LaFantasie was able to create a character that I, as the reader, felt invested in. I can certainly overlook wanting to know more. After all, wanting to know more is an essential byproduct of caring about a character and the author definitely pulls off a cast of characters than the reader cares about the futures of and dismays when events don't come up roses.

Of note, the author is planning an update to correct some formatting issues in the conversion process to ebook which were not caught initially. Until the update is posted, perfectionists may be disheartened by the book at first.

All in all, I enjoyed the novel and look forward to more from the author.

Heart Song
By Samantha Lafantasie

A meeting of mortal and immortal worlds, Heart Song has an otherworldly feel to it that draws you in almost against your will. Relena and Marren share a heart song, a kind of mystical bonding that isn’t explained at first but as these two spend more time together, albeit with Relena as his prisoner it becomes almost seductive. There are dark forces at play however that seem destined to keep them apart and so we’re sucked into this world of fantastical creatures and a destiny that will affect the mortal and immortal worlds.
I enjoyed the book. LaFantasie has created a magical world and one of the challenges when creating new worlds is remembering to obey the new rules of physics. I’ve read many books where the author cheats the reader in an attempt to save their characters. Thankfully LaFantasie doesn’t fall into this trap. You want to read more and that I think is one of the drawbacks because it could have been a longer book. It’s really that good but if it has a good storyline and the characters draw you into their world as they do in Heart Song then word length shouldn’t be an issue. Hopefully any sequels will be longer because I feel as if there’s much more to this world than meets the eye.
A well written, heart warming book.

A world of mortals and immortals--separate, yet poised to collide with one another, and at the center of it all stand Marren and Relena who share a Heart Song.

I enjoyed the mix of romance, fantastical elements, and the time Ms. LaFantasie took with the cultures and races of her world. The heroine is a young woman, Relena, who is shunned by her community and even her own father. With such a hurtful past, it's difficult for her to open up, especially to the handsome and dangerous Marren. When he rescues her and whisks her away to a strange place, she begins to learn new things about him, the world he belongs to, and herself.

I thought her bond with Enid (who had become a father figure to her) was very touching, and I liked the fact that Relena wasn't afraid to stand up for what she believed in and actually fight. With that said, I would've liked a bit more action with Relena displaying her skills (did I mention Relena could handle swords?) but other than that, it was fun following on her journey and seeing if the villain (Jiren) would tear the two lovers apart in order to achieve his own selfish ends.

The character pulls you into this well crafted book when a young girl dashes away from a group of men who are intent on harm. We see right into her thoughts, smell everything around her in the forest and feel her heart beating. This bonding with the character gives the reader a chance to experience everything she does as she slowly changes form a girl into a woman ... into a ... I won't give away the plot, but it's seamlessly done and completely believable although out of the normal human experience. On thing that remains the same: deep love.

From the first page there was so much action and anxiety that I knew I wouldn't be able to put it down. I loved that there was a good mix of action and tension and romance. It was also really nice that the book went full circle and you got closure at the end. I didn't feel like I had a ton of questions at the end which was a nice change.

I'm currently beating myself up for not being able to read this book sooner. Samantha LaFantasie has just transported me to a magical place where rules aren't made to be broken but must be adhered to, or else, blood will flow & immortals will be doomed. Relena & Marren found each other in this realm, they are each other's heartsong. What Marren feels, Relena also feels. When Relena cries, Marren feels the pain. They bound themselves together & was blessed with a daughter. Then came war and deception. In this magical world, even the impossible is possible.

I had a great time reading Heart Song. Although I think Relena and Marren got into a whirlwind kind of relationship at the beginning, my opinion changed when all secrets were revealed and I have come to like Marren more and more. I liked that right at the beginning, the story had so much intrigue and action going on. Never a dull moment here nor there. Samantha LaFantasie did an excellent job in putting all elements of paranormal in Heart Song, making it a pleasure to read. I believe Heart Song is going to be one of those novels that I would pick again if I want to read a novel a second time. Cheers to a unique view of paranormal, fantasy and romance that leaves readers breathless, enthralled, and captivated.

Ms. LaFanatasie has certainly lived up to her name. She knows how to write a great fantasy novel. Each of the characters were deep and you could feel for them, especially Relena and Marren. Even Jiren, the antagonist, is very unique for a vampire. This book takes you on an adventure in both the mortal world and a world filled with supernatural creatures. I have to say my favorite part is the love story as it's not played out like a lot of other romance novels. Most will focus on the build up, how will the two get together? This book puts them together and then takes you through their trials. It makes you wonder if they will be able to overcome the odds and stay together.

This is a great love story that should be read by many more!

Ok

I generally don't read this genre, but this story was ok. It wasn't too far out crazy that I stopped reading, rolling my eyes, and throwing my Kindle. So that's a plus. I liked the characters, but the drawn out drama between the two mains was way over the top. I liked how she runs always but always comes back, but in most other instances, the drama could have been seriously edited. If course there were the usual subject v verb errors and other grammar errors most common in self-pub books. I'm sure I saw this was proofread. Hmmmm. Perhaps it's because I have a degree in English that errors jump out so clearly and detract from my enjoyment. Overall, an interesting story but distracting grammatical errors.

I'm the author of this fine specimen of literature. To say that it was 5 stars is a bit biased. But Goodreads is letting me rate and review my own book, so why not?

If you love fantasy with a good dose of romance, check this out.

I've created a vivid world with 3D characters mixed into a high stakes plot that takes you through a unique take on werewolves, magic, and love.

I'm very happy to say that so far, Heart Song has been well received. It would honor me if you took the chance to read it and share your thoughts in a review. :)

I loved the storyline. Finding out about the "heart song", makes you believe in true love. The relationship between Marren and Relena is something you feel for the both of them, how they feed off each other's emotions. The parts that you don't think will be important later are. Enid and Dast are two of my favorite characters. It is sad about a little more than halfway, that will have you cry..but not for long because it just gets better. I love the storytelling, the Gaelic and Cherokee languages used. The most unexpected but cutest was Serid and Naloud. That's all I can say.

A fantasy world deeply imagined and described in palpable detail. An indestructible love between the heroine and hero set against the background of two competing cultures vying for survival. In feisty young Relena is embodied a threat to the status quo, so she must fight not only for herself and for her true love, but also for peace between two worlds. I was rooting for her all the way, and for her elusive and unnerving Marren. And I learned some new things about werewolves!

Wow. I'm not believing most of these reviews, especially the ones that think this book was well written. If I could give it negative stars, I would. I couldn't even finish it, and I am a stubborn reader. It was so badly written it didn't even make sense. There was no connection between the events in the book, or memories. There wasn't even much character development. Ugh.
