K D George pulls you along on a journey of thrilling suspense while capturing the reader with vivid descriptions of locale, characters and action. The author builds tension and keeps you on the edge of your seat and the pacing carries throughout most of the book. I tripped over the `s' being used instead of `z' and `c' in some of the spelling, but will not ding the star rating. I definitely recommend reading it.
'Q' was an intriguing and action packed thrilling read. The story line was full of suspense, action, thrilling scenarios and an array of personalities. The characters ranged from great, kick-ass persons to lowest life form pond scum. Felix and Sarah have definitely been through hell. But their will to survive and overcome the hand dealt to them was an incredible journey. Definitely a great add to your tbr list.
Great story, expertly presented. The background is credible, and the plot too. Normally I don’t read late into the night, but this was hard to put down.
I'd have liked to give this novel a higher rating as there is much to praise. The overall concept is good and the author creates convincing characters and action scenes. Unfortunately, it really needs a lot more work. Right at the start my eyebrows were raised when I saw the preface containing glowing praise from a number of major publishing companies for the quality of the writing. But this is a self-published book! Assuming these are genuine quotes I would imagine each one had a large 'but' attached - if the book were really that good surely it would have been published by one of them. (I wonder if the companies concerned know they are being quoted?) And the truth is, the book just isn't as wonderful as the quotes suggest. For one thing it's too long and unfocussed. To begin with the action keeps chopping and changing between a couple fighting a storm at sea, an attack on a Ghanian truck driver, an arms dealing musing on his marital problems and past history and a tramp freighter in the Adriatic. There is no clear protagonist and it takes a very long time for the real point of the story to emerge. In a lot of places there's also way too much detail. K D George clearly knows a lot about military hardware and how soldiers train. But do we really need to know so much? The descriptions, particularly of a team in training go on too long - and at a point when we want to get to the action. There's a scene at sea involving three boats where exactly what is going to happen with all the weapons and explosives is explained in detail - before it happens! We also then get a lengthy description of the action when it happens! Some technical detail for those who like it sure but not at the expense of the story - this is meant to be a thriller after all. (I also found Sarah's occasional references to her past history and the dubious circumstances relating to the death of Jack ultimately annoying. This was never explained and was ultimately pointless.) On a more basic level, the novel also needs a decent proofread and edit. It's littered with mistakes such as extra words and words that are joined together. Annoying. This might seem like a list of complaints but I hope this is constructive criticism - there's a good yarn here but it could be much improved. (And then maybe one of those big publishing companies might really look at it!)
Action-packed great read from beginning to end. Well-informed and interesting on its scene-setting geopolitical background, wholly relevant to the intriguing, compelling and always unpredictable twists and turns of the story. You need a bit of a strong stomach for some of the violence, but that's equally true of any news broadcast. Great entertainment. An unput-downable read. Everything you want from a thriller. Can't wait for K D George's next. Q - A Thriller
You certainly get your money's worth with this book. It's a long book that begins with various and seemingly disparate scenes. Over the course of the novel, the connection is revealed. The author really seems to know his material. I got the feeling he has either lived these situations or has done exhaustive research. Very well written. Just when you think the tension is resolved, you are surprised by yet another dilemma that has you on the edge of your seat. I would definitely read more by this author. I was impressed.
I loved the action and fast pace. The writing is much better than most of the free or low cost books I've read. Much of the plot was believable. But I took off one star for plot at the end. Too many crazy coincidences and twists to be believable. Also the last fifth of the book seems anticlimactic after the big event most of the book leads up to.
Good fast paced page turner. Had me looking forward to reading time each day but I nailed it pretty quickly as couldn't put the dam thing down. Made me oversleep for a meeting. Thanks Mr George! Good skills.
Absolutely brilliant book I cannot remember enjoying a thriller so much. Powerful characters gripping interweaving storylines and emotional connection with the main protagonists. Must be read!
