Blood Destiny #10

Blood Reunion

Rate this book
"My love, the child almost died." Lissa looked up at Roff's words. His wings rustled after he spoke--he normally didn't involve himself in the politics of Le-Ath Veronis. Not to this extent, anyway.

"I know, honey. And now two other children are likely to die as a result. Yes, I know they did this, but I'm not convinced we have all the ones involved in the crime."

Toff's life is in danger--someone from the Green Fae village wants him dead. In fact, the entire Fae community has begun to grumble as Kifirin's judgment looms. With only a few exceptions, the Fae focus their anger (and the blame) on Toff, who fails to understand why everyone now seems to be against him.

I'm just going to ramble on about how I felt about this entire series
I liked the plotline, when there was actually a plotline, and not more drama to make Lissa such a martyr
The first book was good, it showed a strong female character adapting to new life that was forced onto her and keeping together while she was being blackmailed and such
Second and third books I did not like. The men around her only wanted to use her or keep her safe by of course emotionally abusing her and treating her like a child, because that always ends well. And the love interest was the worst, Gavin just constantly did things that hurt Lissa but then would apologize profusely and say he didn't mean it afterwards as well as acting controlling, possessive, and jealous. Pretty much the textbook definition of an abusive relationship. And then Lissa loves him back because that's what a strong female character does right?
Merill was the only supernatural character close to her that was passable but of course the author screws that one up later in the series
Fourth book adds Sci-fi into the genre as well, this book was actually rather nice because we get to see Lissa act when she isn't constantly being abused by those who 'love' her. Although she does get insanely overpowered, but it's OK because Lissa is a special snowflake
Book 5 is a continuation of the crap that goes on in 2 and 3
Book 6 adds another betrayal, because the first 5 books weren't bad enough. But hey, at least she gets to be royalty
Books 7-10. Ruling as Queen, problems with Ra'Ak, great shows of power, forgetting to use said power, betrayal by people Lissa loves, drama, drama, drama, adding more mates, end of series with more to come (with apparently doormat heroines and lots of drama attached) to actually end the entire plotline. Also addition of children because Lissa's just so hung up about not having biological children - I'm sure there are orphans that would have become Lissa's children in all ways but blood. Apparently this is such a bad problem that basically all of the female vampires commit suicide because they have not heard about adoption.

How to summarize the entire series
Lissa: "I would like to be treated as a human being"
Something bad happens
Male characters: "We should keep using Lissa/not tell her something she'll eventually find out because it will upset her/treat Lissa like she doesn't have a brain"
Lissa: "Guys? I feel betrayed"
Male character: "I only did it because I love you, that's how love works right?"

Extra note on the mates
I don't have a problem with polyamory if it's well written and actually makes sense with the characters. But I feel like this is some kind of weird emotional porn. All these big, hulking, powerful, handsome men who want to dedicate their love to one (and only one) Mary-Sue of a woman and don't get jealous in any way shape or form?
Most of the characters we don't even see fleshed out and after their few pages of glory in which they have a "love at first sight" moment where they proclaim their lifelong love for Lissa and she reciprocates because the author wrote it out, they just fade out of the story as Lissa goes on to acquire new mates. They're really only trotted out and gain the limelight if the author decides to generate more drama - Gabron being idiot, Shadow withholding information, Karzac's child, etc. Otherwise, they're relegated to a few sentences each book just to assure us that they're still there.
Not to mention that some of her mates are Grade A Assholes.

There are very few series that can hook me and leave me enthralled like Connie Suttle's Blood Destiny Series. Every time she releases a new novel, I'm grabbed from the start and can't let go until the end. Even then, I'm already waiting with anticipation for the next one. There isn't one thing that makes her books great. Rather, it is a combination of elements put together to create the perfect literary recipe. My intellectual taste buds are stimulated every time. It is in her work that I find my emotions pulled in every direction. I laugh, I cry, and I find myself so angry at some characters that I want to reach through the pages and strangle them. What her writing does is make me feel. Not every writer can do that, but Connie does it very well.

This series isn't for everyone, I'll admit. It begins as a paranormal and evolves into a fantasy/sci-fi story of epic proportions. There are aliens of all kinds, space travel, time travel, and characters with powers beyond most of our imaginations. Seriously, I don't know how the author comes up with some of the stuff she writes. It's amazing. Even the romance doesn't work the same in this world as what we traditionally believe it should. Some people may be offended by that. I might have balked at it as well if told ahead of time. Lucky for me, I didn't know until I got further into the series. The author introduced the romantic elements in a way that progressed slowly enough that it could make sense. It works in this world and shows the author chose not to be limited by societal norms. Truly, if you can keep an open mind, you'll love how very different these novels are (assuming you aren't already hooked to the series).

As for Blood Reunion itself, it lived up to my expectations. There wasn't any single plot I can cover here, but numerous threads that reached a conclusion that still leaves me wanting more. The last novel, Blood Redemption, had just introduced the first of Lissa's children (born via surrogate mothers). In this one they are teenagers and she's had a daughter since then as well. As the story progresses, she adds to the brood. One wrong is righted from a previous novel's event where she had been devastated (I'll not give away what that was). More enemies are introduced that she'll have to deal with, plus an old one, but her powers are more limited this time around (due to another surprise I won't give away) so it requires some creativity and help from others to overcome the odds. Some characters will die, but many will live as well. For readers who have made it this far into the series, this won't be a surprise. The real mystery is who makes it out alive and who doesn't at the end.

Far less time is spent in Lissa's head than in any of the other books before. This didn't bother me like I would have thought. I enjoyed seeing events happen from other perspectives and this is coming from a reader who isn't a big fan of third person narrative. I loved that this series was mostly in first person at the beginning, but the cast really has gotten so large this far in that there would be no way for the story to be told well without a bit of head hopping. The bonus is you get to see through the eyes of Lissa's children, and believe me, that is a lot more interesting and fun than you'd think. They were all so unique. It's amazing how well the author did at giving them each their own voice and perspective. Not to mention the trouble they get themselves into. As a trade-off, though, there aren't as many intimate scenes with Lissa's mates as I would have liked.

There is so much more I could say about this novel and the series as a whole. It never gets dull and is told in such a way that you're compelled to never put the book down. I've read every single one of them in one sitting (except maybe to get up for bodily necessities but I won't get into the details of that).

The one thing I can say is if you're a reader who likes to "feel" something in the stories you read, this might be the one for you. Do be warned this is much more of a character driven series than plot driven. There are so many plot threads, if fact, that it's really the characters you're holding onto the most. It is them, along with the intricate world-building, that keeps you wanting more. I'm thankful it isn't ending and that more books will be released next year. I'll be grabbing them, along with the new High Demon series novel that releases later this month (October 2012). It's set in the same world but with a focus on different characters. If you like the Blood Destiny series, you might give that one a try as well.

Now that was different in the best way!
Also I have been saying Roth when it’s spelt Roff!!
I liked that we got a different POV, Toff sure has a lot to overcome and wow, I did not see that coming but I am so glad. I want more!!
We did get some of Lissa which was nice but it was nice to have other characters be front for a bit.
Lissa’s children are going to be something to see I wonder if we will get their stories.
Great narration seriously I loved it.

I'm pretty sure I'm done with this series. I did enjoy the novels to some degree but I need to be honest and say this is too much. Too many mates, too many dramas that make very little sense. Hell too many backtracking lies, like Lissa getting pregnant on her own. Gah, what a mess.

MAJOR SPOILERS THROUGHOUT:
I loved this book! Going into it, I was a little skeptical because it was over a decade in the future from where the last book ended. I was scared that I would miss Lissa in her younger years before she became a parent. I was also hesitant after learning that Lissa's wasn't the main point of view.
My fears were completely unfounded because I loved this book. I enjoyed being outside of Lissa's point of view a lot more than I thought I would. I loved being inside her kids' heads and seeing Lissa from another person's perspective. I also liked getting to see Lissa's mates from another person's point of view. Her kids were each great and I loved seeing parts of Lissa and her mates in them. I also liked all of the warm and heartfelt family moments.
I was shocked when I found out that Lissa was pregnant. After her using surrogates in the last book, I never thought that she would carry a child herself. It was definitely a pleasant surprise. I also liked getting to see Lissa helpless for once. She is usually the one that has all the power and I got used to seeing her handle the problem herself. Because she was pregnant, she couldn't do that which frustrated her to no end.
I thought Redbird would be a doting mother to Toff but she actually turned out to be neglectful and I understand why she wasn't meant to be a parent. I was a little disappointed that Toff wasn't as angry with Redbird as I wanted him to be. After the way she treated him, I am really shocked that he didn't confront her after learning the truth about his parentage. I am also a little mad that Redbird died. I feel like she should have had to suffer more for what she did.
I thought that this was the last book. I found out recently that the eleventh book will be coming out on February 15, 2018. It will be called Blood Recall and I very excited to read it. I do wonder what caused Connie to come back to the series five years later when she has many other series currently going on. Nevertheless, I highly anticipate its release and I am dying to read it.

This book is written differently from the others in the series, but I personally think it was a fantastic decision to do it. I absolutely loved the fact that the children were the central voices of the story and I cried tears of joy at the end of Chapter 15. I almost cried again at the end of the story, but that was because I wanted more! Another cliffhanger and another excellent book by a fantastic author!

Warning this rant contains major spoilers

So I have just finished this book in a fairly short space of time and have to say that while I like the kids in general there are some serious issues here. My main one is that 18 year old Toff is now in love with 12 year old Nissa and they will likely be having a relationship before she is 15 (as suggested at the end by other characters). This is not OK!! I understand that his race matures slower than others but it was also explained that he was much more mature mentally as he lived with the Fae who mature at age 18. Why could the author not just give these children a family who loves them as a happy ending to this book instead of making it weird and creepy.
Don’t even get me started on the miracle pregnancy.
Whilst I love the characters in this series this one was wayyyy too much for me

Ridiculous. A good story again but the ending was horrible.

This one had more of a Harry Potter feel, what with the kids' hijinks and all. I guess it's setting up for the couple YA series being built around it. Whatever. I'm done with them and done with this author.

I just read 10 books straight through and for what? After all this time, all those people, an un-named person gets the last few paragraphs of the last book? Who the hell was that? Am I supposed to remember some maybe-mentioned-in-passing-once relationship? Endless, ham-handed dangles finish this series.

I won't be reading any of the other series and I don't care what happens to any of these people. Well, I do care, but I doubt the author will ever bother to wrap anything up

I have completed Blood Destiny series and I enjoyed it all. It was like watching a series but I was reading it. It truly encompasses what a Vampire Queen could experience.

I loved how Gren died he was stupid and power hungry, ignoring that he was the cause of the Green Fae death. I wonder if the Green Faes sent to Evensun had continue to strive and if Larel and Clover and their parents were transported to Evensun before the Green Faes extinction.

I am overjoyed that Lissa finally had the opportunity to conceive and bear a child.

It was a pleasure Connie to read this series. First Ordinance series was what lead me to this series. So I shall continue the journey with the other series that tie in with Lissa and her circle.

Thank you again Connie I enjoyed all the books.

Well...I'm kinda gutted that I've finished the series ... so much so I couldn't let her go just yet so I'm reading sixth one again haha (why?) because you can really see her become her own person without the hounding of the council (amongst other things). Anyway I enjoyed this book because you get to see the views of the kiddies but the only annoying flaw is that everytime you see Lissa speaking it is quoted from "Lissa's journal" which is a bit confusing considering all throughout the series, it is from her point of view. On to the next part but I really hope this is not the last of our vampire queen.

So excited when I saw this was out and this one was slightly different. Not really from Lissas point of view except extracts from her journal - this was weird as they were in the same person as all the rest not the way someone would actually write a diary. Loved this, more angst, the MCs did catch a break somewhat this time and it was also I think 14 years since the last book. Loving all the children and their relationship and also the setting up of this God's war - I want to know whether Ashe is going to be one of the Makers!! As always enough story but want more and can't wait for the next.

The Blood Destiny series is in my favorite pile and will most likely be read again. The characters were strong, the overall story was good, the world that was created in this series was wonderful, the writing was good. All in all Connie Suttle is now one of my go to authors. I became obsessed with this whole series and couldn't put it down until the end. Because of that I won't pick up another book by this author until I am caught up with everything I need to do. This is not just another vampire series, it is much more than that! It is science fiction fantasy.

A good ending.

Overall I liked the series and this one tied some things up and left some things open and in other series of the God wars, I suspect we will find out small things on how the lives of this gang ends up, at least I hope so. This book in itself was good too. Exciting, fast moving and I it got more to the point in places and didn't drag things out. So a good series worth reading if you can remember it's a work of fiction and sometimes you have to make things a bit fantastical for it to be a good and interesting story to keep people reading.

This is the last book of this series before it splits off to make spin off series. Toff is mostly grown up and now is in a lot of danger. Lissa is having issues with the Green Fae, and a lot more is going on.

This book was not nearly as good as a lot of the other books in series, and it was really not that great of an ending. I liked who Toff started to like, but I hated a lot of the rest of what happened in it. It was beyond frustrating, and I didn't like how it ended either.

But, I'm looking forward to more of this world!

This book was told by Lissa's children POV, so it was more YA. There were parts that were from Lissa's Journal, but they were very few.
This book was lighter compare to previous ones. Less drama and less action.
Toff was reunited with his parents - YAY! - and there is a great surprise for Lissa. I spend most of the book asking "who is it?"

And then....

Set some years in the future from the previous books this one starts with a large focus and number of point of view shifts between Lissa's children. This story is weaker then previous outings in my opinion and is in a way a bit of a fluffy work out some loose ends and get the universe ready for the next series type filler feeling book.

Still really nice story but this one was way different in the way that most of the events are told from the children point of view. It is definitly new and a it disturbing after 9 books told from Lissa's point of view.

This series is by far my favorite vampire series yet. I love the action, the romance and the drama in every book. Connie Suttle has a way of pulling you into the story as though you are Lissa herself. Absolutely LOVE it!!

Why is this one written so differently from the rest? Could our author be tired of writing this story?

Read from the point of view of her boys at ages 12 and from Lissa diaries. Trik and Toff as well as lissa and Shadow's girl Nissa are in here also. Good plot.
