3 stars!

I really enjoyed this book and it was a solid NA romance read until the 75% mark. After that I pretty much lost all interest in the story. While Changing Forever is book 2 in the Rain series it can be read as a standalone – this book focuses on Kate’s (from book 1) roommate Emery.

Character descriptions:

Emery: a straightforward, takes-no-shit kind of girl. She gave up a lot just to attend college and pursue her dreams and won’t let anyone or anything stop her from getting what she wants. It took me a while to warm up to Emery’s character as she didn’t let anyone know the real her until later.

Drake: an outwardly charming, cocky football player who shoulders some heavy responsibility. He takes care of his younger sisters and mother after his father died and in a twisted way, believes that he needs to carry out his father’s dream by playing football. Like Emery, he doesn’t let anyone get too close to him.

I really enjoyed this author’s writing style and it was obvious to me that the plot was well thought out and the character development was great. At the 75% mark, there was a plot twist that didn’t sit well with me at all and part of the reason was because I’ve never seen it done well before. After that point the story became predictable, cheesy, and I personally didn’t think the hero groveled enough for the heroine to take him back so easily. Overall a solid NA read if you’re looking for something in this genre but nothing extraordinary.

Drake is the football quarterback. Football is the only thing he knows. Literally the.only.thing.that.he.knows.
Em is a small farm girl who feels like Collage is finally her Freedom. When she was going around campus to see around and look she bumps into Drake. It was kinda funny, they have this bickering between them. They "hated" each other at the beginning but you know what they say, The person that you hate is actually the person that you like.*wink*

“Two different people.
Two different worlds.
Two different dreams.”

This book made me feel A lot of things. Em and drakes relationship was back and forth. When they start something I'm like this....
snape gif clapping photo woohoo.gif
Finally!

But then drake comes with his football crap and how he's not good enough and blah blah blah, then I'm like this....
bang head photo bangHeadAgainstWall.gif
Like seriously dude get your shit together. I mean I understand what they both went through but god..not to this level.

“Do you compare everything to football?” She asks.

Trust me through this whole entire book I asked myself that question million of times.

“I give you permission to hit me next time. Yell at me. Whatever you have to do; just don’t ever let me spend another day away from you”

If you were here I will beat the crap out of you and tell you to get your shit together.

I got into this story thinking it was going to be a sweet jock falls for the good girl kinda book. I haven't read those for a while, don't get me wrong it kinda was but it wasn't a light-hearted story. I was so frustrated. It was ok I guess. Not my favorite but Ok. I also enjoyed Kate in this story.

“When you love someone, like that deep down, absorbent kind of love, you want to spend every minute you can with them. Being in love is the best feeling in the world, and once you have it, you’ll never want to lose it.”

My kind of book but with a case of overexaggeration of situations, annoying hero that does not knw what he wants...i wanted to punch him alot of times! Alot of discrepancies with the same events that happened in After it rains and this one. I loved the heroine so much...she was totally my kind of girl...she really took alot from the hero though but gave him a hard time from time to time which was good. All in all i enjoyed it. Lovely epilogue!!

Title: Changing Forever
Series: Rains (standalone book)
Author: Lisa De Jong
Release Date: June 2014
Rating: 4 stars
Cliffhanger:. No
HEA:

Changing Forever really surprised me. I expected something entirely different from what I got; I thought it would be more like When It Rains, previous book in Rains series, but it was not like it even teeny little bit. While Kat’s story was gut wrenching cry jerker, Drake and Emery’s journey was sweet, heartwarming college romance packed with steam, angst and surprises.

Emery is about to start her freshman year in college. She’s very excited; she worked really hard to get scholarship and be able to get a degree as a children’s therapist. Helping kids like her was always her dream. So with the start of academic year she promises herself she won’t get distracted by boys or parties. Her school work is more important than them.

On her first day on campus she runs straight into hot and popular Drake Chambers. The sexy quarterback everyone seems to know. Emery immediately doesn’t like him. She knows he’s trouble with capital T. His body and crooked grin only assures her that staying away from him is the best idea.

Emery is not one hundred percent right about Drake. He’s not as shallow as she pictured him. Drake’s wrong about Emery; she’s not that innocent as he thinks.

When both of them have to work on school project together, sparks start to fly and they begin to unravel that not only were they wrong about each other but have lots in common too.

I was very relieved when I found out this novel won’t be changing me into blubbery mess which made me read it quicker. I love reading heartbreaking stories but every time I finish them I feel hangover for days. When I reached the ending without shedding a tear I was thankful and happy.

Changing Forever was nothing like When It Rains I loved, yet it still was a great story, albeit a little bit on the cliché side; the hot QB and ‘normal, nerdy’ girl get together. But I did like it! I found myself appreciating all the drama.

Lisa De Jong knows her job very well and it showed here. She can wonderfully play on readers’ emotions and make them feel everything: from sorrow and anguish to happiness and love. I highly recommend her newest novel for those who like to read about college relationships, sexy football players and usual drama.

Para nada lo que esperaba.

La personalidad de los protagonistas totalmente inverosímil.

Historia llena de clichés. (De los malos)

Actitudes bobas e ilógicas.

Insta-love Insta-hate Insta-lust

Narrativa normalita sin más.

Aburrido.

This was a good book and I loved both the main characters until I reached the 75% mark and the twist was something I could have done without. I won't include any spoilers about this but the twist came close to wrecking the book for me but I did get over it the second time I read it.

If you haven't read the 'Rain Series' by Lisa De Jong you are truly missing out.

Two different people.
Two different worlds.
Two different dreams.

Wow! What an emotional rollacoster that was! I knew I wanted to dive into Drake Chambers and Emery White’s story when I got a glimpse of their turmoltuous relationship in After the Rain. There was a significant reveal in that book that something went horribly wrong with these two, so I immediately jumped into their novel Changing Forever, and I finished it too quickly! This book was filled with raw emotion, definite chemistry and heart break all around. Exactly what I’ve been in the mood for lately.

Drake is Southern Iowa State’s star quarterback. He has a broken past and knows that the only way he can give his mom and two sisters any chance at a good life is if he lands a pro-football contract after college. School comes in second when it comes to his primary focus revolving around his football dreams. However, when he meets Emery, who is attending the university on a full-ride academic scholarship, he begins to question what part of that dream really makes him happy. When they are paired up to complete a project in one of their classes, their relationship is anything but easy.

After constant starts and stops because of Drake’s hesitations and Emery’s solid walls of protection, they finally give in to their feelings and realize that their romance is explosive.

...when you take goodness, add fire and gasoline, it fucking burns...

What ensues is a heated relationship that’s filled with emotional moments, tragic reveals and a crash landing that leaves them both broken and lost.

Overally, I loved Drake and Emery’s story. There were so many moments that I hoped Emery would just walk away, and that baffled me because I really liked Drake. I think I just didn’t like them together... at the time. However, that all changed at the twist of the story and it hit me like a ton of bricks. I love when a book changes my feelings about how I want the outcome to unravel and Changing Forever did exactly that. Let me just say... The epilogue... oh my!! I loved that final touch. Perfect ending for a couple of characters I came to adore! Changing Forever was emotional, hopeful with a dash of drama. Just how I like it!!

3.5/5 ⭐

This is the second installment in the Rain series ...
The first book is one of my favorites ...
I couldn't wait for this one to come out ...
Drake is a student and a football player, years before he lost his father, and now he has a mother a two sisters to take care of ...
Emery is also a student and Kate's roommate ... her mother left her when she was a little kid and now she is determent to succeed in life, and become nothing like her mother ...
I was little frustrated with the two of them, especially with Drake, he blamed himself for the past, and he wouldn't let Emery in his life, he thought he wasn't good enough for her ... they were always like one step forward and two back ...
Overall I liked this one, Lisa didn't disappoint .... and now I can't wait for Rachel's story ...

With one decision, everything changes … forever.

I’ve been so excited to read CHANGING FOREVER when I found out that this is all about Drake and Emery. I wondered how the story would go since they seem to hate each other in the 1st book.

***Spoilers Ahead***

Two different people.
Two different worlds.
Two different dreams.

Emery White is a smart, straight forward, determined kind of girl and a stubborn woman who’s afraid to go out of her comfort zone. She’s too much attached to her past that she lets her experiences affect her decisions in life. She’s too scared to fail because she simply doesn’t want to disappoint anyone. Emery has problems dealing with her emotions because of her painful past. That said, she set her own standards and she never want to break her own rules. She’s determined to achieve her goals since she’s a girl with a plan until she met Drake Chambers and he changed everything.

You, Drake. I don’t let many people in, but I gave you a chance, and this is where it got me. I guess it just proves that I really shouldn’t trust anyone.

Drake’s an arrogant, hot college quarterback. He’s every girl’s dream, but despite of being the guy that every girl would love, he has a painful past.

“My heart is screaming for me to wrap her in my arms. My head is telling me to let her go before I hurt her even more than I already have. They’re fighting each other. I’m fighting myself.”

So there. Despite of having a cliché love story, the ‘opposite attracts’, hate at first sight kind of story, I enjoyed the 2nd installment of When it Rains.

“When you love someone, like that deep down, absorbent kind of love, you want to spend every minute you can with them. Being in love is the best feeling in the world, and once you have it, you’ll never want to lose it.”

It is one of the best stories I’ve ever read. Sure, there are some boring moments, it was a bit cliché but Lisa De Jong never fails to amaze me on how she writes her stories. I was captivated on the 1st part of the story however; I got frustrated with how Drake treats Emery. He’ll make Emery feels like she was his own world, as if the sun rises and sets with her kind of feeling, like as if she means everything to him and after that he’ll push her away as if he never really cares. It sucks and it makes me want to slap Drake and tell him to gather his shit together and follow his heart. Changing Forever isn’t just about romance. It talks about a lot of things like family, moving forward, having life goals, second chances and friendship, or even more.

You changed my idea of perfect, and this version makes me happy. I can’t imagine ever going to bed without you by my side, or waking up and not seeing your face.

Lisa De Jong never fails to amaze me with the way she writes. This book was captivating despite of the boring parts; she was able to bring my attention back to the story because of the heart-warming scenes.

“They say you should dream like you’ll live forever, and live like you’ll die tomorrow. This is my life and my dream… it just took a while for me to see that in order to have them both, I had to change my idea of forever.”

I loved it.

“Two different people. Two different worlds. Two different dreams.”

A handsome guy and an ‘innocent’ girl. I’m a sucker for these kind of books.
I loved When It Rains (it’s one of my all-time favs), so I had quite some high expectations for this one. And I loved the idea of this stand-alone series. The characters in this book were amazing. I love Lisa’s way of describing things, people and feelings.

“If all I wanted to do is look at a guy without a shit, I’d stay home and browse Pinterest. At least the guys on there can’t talk back.”

Emery (gorgeous name!) was a very likable character. She’s funny, smart, down to earth and a little emotionally broken because of her past. And Drake… * sighs* handsome Drake Chambers… I couldn’t get enough of him. He’s funny and caring. Yes, he made a few big mistakes in his life-choices, but that made me like him even more.
The two of them together were amazing. Sparks everywhere! God, the making-out scenes were extremely hot!

“I think a person can tell the minute they care about another person by how much they absorb the other person’s emotions – taking them as their own. I’d be lying if I said there wasn’t a twinge of pain in my chest right now. This girl, so sweet, so beautiful, is hurting, and I want to make it all go away.”

The storyline was good too. But… I expected more?

“You changed my idea of perfect, and this version makes me happy. I can’t imagine ever going to bed without you by my side, or waking up and not seeing your face.”

By the way: Am I the only one who gets super excited when characters of the previous stand-alone appear? Because I almost screamed when I read that Kate was Em’s roommate!! :D Oh! And when Kate said ‘I love when it rains’ , I almost started crying!! Gosh. I’m never going to get over Asher and her ♥.

“They say you should dream like you’ll live forever, and live like you’ll die tomorrow. This is my life and my dream… it just took a while for me to see that in order to have them both, I had to change my idea of forever.”

5 stars!

Lisa De Jong has done it once again... no Changing Forever is not as emotional as When It Rains, but come on it is hard to top that one. But with that being said, its still an emotional book. We are introduced to Emery who is Kate's roommate in college. (I loved that connection to Kate, Beau and Archer) She goes for a run her first day and ends up running into(literally) a very hot, shirtless guy(Drake Chambers). They banter back and forth for a little while and they go their separate ways. Emery hopes she doesn't see him again, because he was so full of himself.

Then the unthinkable happens. Not only is he in her speech class, but they get forced to become partners for a project. Drake doesn't want to spend any time on the project and pretty much tells her she is on her own. But for some reason the spark of disappointment in her eyes causes him to want to help her. So he agrees to meet up and go over research topics.

The longer they work together, the more they feel the connection, but they both fight it. Emery finds herself opening up to Drake in ways she never has with anyone before. But he only makes her feel like she isn't good enough for him to open up to her.

Just when things start to become better for both Drake and Emery something happens that causes Drake to push Emery away. I don't want to spoil any of the story, but this is where my heart is in my throat and had tears forming in my eyes. They both had to go through horrible things in their past and can't seem to catch a break.

Don't go into this story expecting the emotional turmoil that When It Rains had, but with open eyes and see 2 amazing characters truing to fight for their redemption from their past. Lisa's writing is fabulous and I can't wait for the next installment....which she has said will be another very emotional book.

First let me say, I am a forever fan of Lisa's! Her writing is the kind that will wrap you in warm blanket and cuddle you until you're finished with her story...or in this case; Emery and Drake's story.

We first met Emery in After the Rain. She is Kate's college roommate. She's kind, loving, fun spirited, and a loyal friend. She also happens to be dating Drake. He is completely dreamy, a football star with a dark history.

Their relationship flourishes into something serious and because of this, they decide to spend Thanksgiving together. Just the two of them. The night before the holiday, things heat up between them. One act changes things in way neither of them saw coming. The day after Thanksgiving, Drake gets hurt out on the field. This is where I had to take a deep breath and brace myself for the rollercoaster ride I knew Lisa was about to take me on. All I could see was red!! I just knew...I didn't want to, but I did. Drake fueled my anger with every turn of my Kindle. At this point, there was no redemption for him. None!

"You were just another curve in the road. Another thing holding me back from what I should be concentrating on. You're the reason I'm here, Emery. You."

Thank goodness I can admit when I'm wrong!!

"I want to give you everything ... especially the things that make you smile."

This story is one that will pull at your heart strings. At times there will be laughter, anger, happiness, and some sadness. In the end, you will be happy you endured and forged ahead with finishing it.

I give this five footballs!!

After I read, When it Rains, I became a Lisa De Jong fan. That book was so emotional and the storyline was unique and fabulous, but what really made me a fan was her writing. Lisa can write, period. She is able to string words together in such a beautiful way that I am able to lose myself in her story. Needless to say, I have been dying to read this book, and it didn't disappoint.

Emery and Drake's story is heartbreakingly beautiful. They will crawl their way into your heart and take you on an emotional rollercoaster ride. You will feel every feel and you will definitely shed a tear. I'm not a crier. I hate crying, and it takes a lot to bring that sort of emotion out of me. But Lisa did it. Again. She is two for two.

This book is flawless, and I cannot say enough about it. There's even a little taste of When It Rains that literally took my breath away. I wont post it in my review, because I don't want to spoil the moment for anyone. But once I came to it, I read it again and again.

So add it to your TBR and the moment it is available to the masses you need to read it. It will change you forever.

3 'Past, present and future' Stars

This was an enjoyable read. The main characters were fantastic and did not disappoint. The verbal sparring is what really peaked my interest.

Emery and Drake:

Emery, a take no shit, no nonsense person. She has her mind set on her goals and she isn't going to let anyone deter her from achieving it. Emery is strong and unique, with her fierce and spunky attitude.

Drake, the cocky football hottie, that struts his stuff like a peacock. Charming and outgoing, but, behind this facade, hides a man with the world of worries and responsibilities on his shoulders.

This really was a lovely and fun read. Lisa De Jong's previous books were fabulous. However, for this one, I thought she fell short.

Why???

Because, coming to the end of the book, she changed the characteristics for Emery too easily. Emery the strong willed young woman, with her eyes on the goal. Too easily accepted Drake's apology. This really did it in for me. My mind was hoping that something different would have played off and there could have been another book, later down in the series and it could have ended with her not accepting him at all in this book.

Cliffy for another book. So sadly to say, this just turned out okayish for me.

"dream like you'll live forever, and live like you'll die tomorrow."

Wonderful wonderful quote.

Check out my full review over at Gone with the Words

This Rains series is made up of three companion novels & one novella; each book follows one of three friends. This second book gives us the story of Emery (Kate’s roommate from book 1) & Drake and is told in alternating POVs between these two main characters as they cross that familiar line from hate to love.
