There is a first for everything… Zan always knew the role for which he was created – to guide, encourage, and protect. He spent every moment of his angelic existence preparing for his earthly assignment. What he didn’t expect were the intense emotions – love, loss, heartache - that came along with it. More specifically, the feelings tied to one of his “callers,” a girl named Providence. Will Providence’s love drive him to choose the unthinkable?
I don't usually read young adult books, as I am definitely an older reader, but looked into this book on the recommendation of a friend. This is Lauren Wynn's debut novel and I was blown away by her imagination, sensitivity and command of the written word. The premise, guardian angels interacting with the mortal world, may seem trite on the surface but Ms. Wynn leads the reader through the complexities of love, loyalty and moral choices in an intriguing and captivating story. This is a book that deserves a place in high school libraries and is worth the read time of even older, more jaded readers such as me.
I really got into the story of this book. Coming from a very broken abusive life it really touched my heart. I hope all of us broken ones can see the good in the broken. I am stronger than I was and stronger every day.
I was so, SO excited to win a copy of this book in the Goodreads giveaway. I loved the idea for this book. There is something about the forbidden love dynamic that gets me; I’m a total sucker for it. I keep flirting between 3 and 3.5 stars for different reasons, but I’m going with 3.5 because it is a very sweet love story, and for a debut novel it deserves it.

As I mentioned before, this is a sweet love story. You can’t help but fall in love with Zan and Providence. This story does have an instalove feel to it. I agree with Allegra who mentioned that it has a twilight feeling about it, but that may just because we are dealing with a love story between a normal girl, and a supernatural being. I also felt like the instalove in this was a little too fast for me. Because the story was all told through Zan’s eyes I never really got a good feel for Providences build up of feelings, and because Zan focused a lot on ignoring his feelings for Providence (in the beginning), I didn’t feel like I got a clear build up of his feelings as well. Despite this it was still a very touching story, and it was done very well. I loved the premise and the ideas as well as the journey the characters went on, and their love for each other. It was a nice read, and I really enjoyed the book.
GoodReads giveaway thank you very much!!It's a wonderful book.I love it so much, the story made me smile, laugh and cry. Even though it's a stand alone book it is very well written, sorry I'm really not good at giving reviews but what's important is this is an amazing book!!
FF are few lines from the book: -Fear gets in the way of doing and being what and who we are meant to be. A little courage is sometimes all it takes to remove that perceived "elephant in the moon." -Once in a while, right in the middle of an ordinary life, love gives us a fairty tale. -The human body is a fragile thing. And some days it's easy to fall into brokenness, to want to take the easy way instead of the the right way, to question and to doubt. And those are the days that we pick each other up and put each other back together and pray for that which we cannot do on our own, which is sometimes easier said than done.
*Received from a Goodreads Giveaway* This book wasn't what I thought it would be. I thought that it would be a book more about angels and how they live and all of their rules. Instead, it turned out to be all about Providence and Zan's feelings for eachother and how they couldn't keep their hands off of one another. Providence and Zan got together too quickly and the rest of the book was just about their lust and temptation with one another. I did like some things in this book such as the following characters: Grant, Leo, and Lennox. It wasn't really my type of book because it was filled with the over dramatic relationship, but if you like love, A LOT, then I really recommend it for readers.
I will be receiving this book from a giveaway! Can't wait to begin reading. I will update as soon as I finish reading the book! :)
Update: this was such a touching story. Very sweet. Maybe a little over the top in a twilight kind of way (angel and human version) but over all I really enjoyed the book. I like the perspective of the angel who was of course more mature than the human. Definitely different seeing love in the mans perspective although probably not completely in tune with how men actually feel. Again, it was enjoyable.
This story is about an angel, Alexander or Zan who falls in love with one of his "callers". He is like a guardian angel and shows up to help people. One of them is Providence who is not quite like his other callers. Zan and Providence end up falling in love.
I thought it wasn't bad. I wish we could have learned a bit more about the angel world, and how that works. Instead we have a paranormal romance that isn't bad, just not what I expected when I first picked up the book.
YA romance books are not usually what I normally choose, but I enjoyed this book. The story flows well, keeping one's interest. I am sure that young adults can easily relate to the characters. It presents issues that young adults face, and gently espouses moral values that I believe in, without being "preachy." For those who are fascinated by angels, this is a new approach that can inspire discussion. And, as a native of Cincinnati, it is fun to recognize places mentioned in the book.
So far I'm about 3/4 through the book and I am loving it! I don't want to give away anything in the book Providence but the author is amazing in describing things and showing how much she feels about her characters when writing it. Knowing myself when I write stories, there was probably a lot of expressions when writing it to create the feeling that you did in the words of the book. Hopefully the rest of the book is as great as it is so far!
Providence is a delightful first novel from an author who makes one hope for more. Lauren Wynn creates characters who invite you to get to know them better. Fantasy, fiction...to be sure but the tale sparked my imagination to want to move right into the story. I liked these characters...the winged ones and those who were grounded,
Note from the author: I sincerely hope you enjoy this story of love, loss, heartache, redemption, and the wonderful gift of grace. I welcome you into Zan's angelic world and on a tour of my hometown Cincinnati.
Great young adult novel about Angels! I thought the premise of the book was really unique. The idea that angels are all around giving us comfort and strength is lovely. I was a little worried about how it would end, but I loved the ending.....God always has a plan.
