I often read of or hear about authors who knew they were meant to tell stories from the time they left the crib. Me? I didn't decide what I wanted to be when I grew up until I was thirty years old - and then sold my first book at thirty-four. Still, it was obvious that I always knew I was going places.

Like so many other authors, I was a voracious reader from day one, devouring everything from Nancy Drew to My Friend Flicka, which I remember sitting hovered over the heater vent in the kitchen floor to read while my father made his coffee.

I moved on to my mother's Phyllis Whitney, Dorothy Eden, and Mary Stewart gothics before discovering my first true romances written by Lucy Walker and set in the Australian Outback. And then, at last, when I was 18 I found 'The Flame and the Flower'. (My son almost spent his life as Brandon because of that, but I spared him and named him Casey instead!)

Why write romance? Because love stories have always been a major part of the books I've loved. Father Ralph and Meggie Cleary. (I did name my daughter Megan after reading The Thorn Birds! Do you see a trend here?) The aforementioned Brandon Birmingham and Heather Simmons. Wolf Mackenzie and Mary Potter.

Even more so, it's because I love writing romance heroes. The men who sweep both heroines and readers off their feet - not to mention their authors, too!

I've spent several years happily writing action adventure romance for Kensington Brava along with hot and sexy series romances for Harlequin Blaze. Now I'm thrilled to be a launch author for Vows.

This book was by far the best in the series. I liked that Everly was so different from everyone else in Crow's Row, or at least it seemed like that. I found her history to be interesting and can see how and why Crow's Row would appeal to her. I found Everly's investigation of the boys to be funny. I knew that she wouldn't write a hachet job and couldn't see why the boys didn't see it. I wish that we would have gotten to see the story.

Boone seemed different from his boys, more thoughtful and respectful, but given his history it makes sense. I liked how the relationship between the two evolved, even Boone's frustration with the lack of said relationship. Boone's ultimatum had me laughing, mostly because the words are usually the girls.

The ending was perfect, it fit both of them to a T.

This blurb came from the author’s website.

Throughout the two previous installments Undeniable and Unbreakable, Boone seemed to be the most grounded. He had a loving supportive family who practically adopted the two other boys and directed them to the Daltons when they needed to work off some excess energy. So, what would cause Boone to take off and vanish, then upon his return keep everything focused on the ranch, only coming into town when unavoidable? I was curious about his reasons for lying low and as the only unattached member of the Dalton Gang, he held a special place in my heart. I was also super curious to find out what type of personality would catch his interest so I couldn’t wait to read Unforgettable, and was really sad when I kept trying to turn the page only to discover I had reached the end.

I loved this story. Watching two people who closed themselves off from everyone else due to a mixture of guilt and fear learn to trust and open up to others. Kent provided their back-story in bits and pieces as they discovered and spent more time with each other. Their slow growing emotional connection was a delight to watch even as they explored their mutual physical attraction. Yes, they had a few misunderstandings but they took the time to work through them. They also discovered that each had some hidden sore spots but due to their past experiences and how they considered the relationship a purely physical one, they were able to ask questions or leave sensitive subjects alone without taking offense at the reaction. The thing I found most interesting was how that same undemanding acceptance fostered their emotional connection and encouraged conversation on those same topics. As they grew more comfortable with each other, both Boone and Everly started opening up to other people. They both learned that the issues, which left the biggest negative mental mark, really weren’t that big compared to what could be after all. I am not going into further detail about the shadows from their past except to say that I think the way Kent resolved or handled them was very impressive.

“There’s something to be said for getting a woman out of her clothes. Not the ones who’ll strip for anyone, but the ones who put that kind of trust in a particular man.”

“What kind of trust is that?” she asked, and he couldn’t tell if she was playing with him, or wasn’t sure what he meant, or a combination of both.

He decided to lay it on the line. “That he’ll do right by her, and in more ways than making her come.”

“Such as?”

“That he won’t go talking about what they’ve done together. That he’ll keep her secrets close. That’ll he value what she’s given him, and take care of that gift, because that’s what it is, that privilege. Sharing something like that with one woman only and no one else ever again…”

“You want that.”

He nodded. “Most men do. Those who recognize all the things a woman can offer. Things that aren’t between her legs.”

In addition to Boone and Everly, Kent kept my interest in the town of Crow Hill itself. I saw how work on the ranch was progressing, the character of several of the townsfolk, the lingering ghosts of the past, and a potential attraction. I enjoyed getting a chance to know some of the other inhabitants in what appeared to be a much less hostile environment. The change in atmosphere of the town when they were dealing with Boone or his two friends was striking and served to highlight how a group of friends who caused the same amount of mischief could be thought of differently based on their family life. This just screamed “small town” to me and really brought Crow Hill’s impression of the Dalton Gang members and Boone’s distance in sharp contrast.

Kent had so many different elements in Unforgettable that I really enjoyed. I fell for the slow romance, the character growth, the town, and hints of a romance to come **crosses fingers**. I liked both Boone and Everly and thought their pairing was a lot of fun. This has been one of the most enjoyable western series that I have read in a while. I am both looking forward to and hoping for another installment set in Crow Hill.

I give Unforgettable a B+

it was really good, but it needed a few things: the human interest story should have been addressed as something that made ALL the town feel proud of being part of the community; how much rent was Everly going to make?; how much did they get for the antiques? couldn't they have struck some oil??? "i'm on the pill; i'm clean". the last guy to fall for that line is married to "baby momma". LOVED the euphemism "cleaning his rifle"! and lastly, NO, size is not what EVERY woman looks for. there really is such a thing as a bit too big. i like guns, abs, technique, and an eagerness to please (regular/average is fine with me!) WHY CAN'T WE HAVE KENDALL'S STORY? WHY CAN'T WE HAVE MORE DALTON GANG BOOKS???????? Please?

Unforgettable (The Dalton Gang #3) by Alison Kent is what I would call a "Bodice Ripper." It is definitely not a genre that I normally read and I have no idea how this one wound up on my nightstand (LOL). So take my review with a grain of salt. I would say it is a cowboy romance that reads kind of like a country song. There is heartache and you wonder if the two main characters will get past their issues and survive as a couple. I kind of skipped past the sex scenes (and there are quite a few of them!) since they didn't really add anything to the story and the language was kind of clunky in my opinion. Unforgettable is an okay book and I didn't loathe it, but nothing really stood out or captivated me. I have a very hard time not finishing a book once I have started it. I think there are only two books that I can recall stopping in the middle with no desire to read further. I haven’t read the first two books in this series (Undeniable and Unbreakable) and I don't plan to, but I don't think they were necessary to read prior to this book. Decent but let's not kid ourselves here, this is alone time, glass full of wine, and bubble bath reading!

I did not finish reading Unforgettable. I liked Everly, Boone, and portions of the story, but something felt off for me. It was a struggle to continue reading. I do plan on reading more by Alison Kent.

Great Series

This was a great series and I hope she writes similar one. I recommend reading them in order that way you don't know what happens in the first two books. Also I hope she writes Greg and Kendall's story and also what about the oil????

Boone and Everly. This one kinda fell flat. I wish she would have really opened up to him. He was so honest and we never did get her story or true story about her ex.

I like this one better from the sequel. But like I said, not much is different from the previous 2 books. It's the same story line with just different main characters or names.

Unforgettable, The Dalton Gang Series #3, by Alison Kent
Grade: C

“You’re all I think about. I live for you and I breathe for you and I’m pretty sure you have no idea of any of that.”

Crow Hill, Texas is the perfect place for Everly Grant to start over after fleeing her old life and abusive ex in Austin. Four years later Everly is one of four reporters for the local newspaper, everly has been assigned to do a piece on the infamous Dalton Gang and their return to Crow Hill after more than a decade. Everly has no desire to write a gossip piece but she is interested in learning more about the only single member of the Dalton Gang Boone Mitchell. Boone makes Everly feel things she hasn’t felt in years and hopefully she can learn to finally trust again.

Boone Mitchell has no desire to get tied down to one woman like all of the other members of the Dalton Gang and has poured his heart and soul into saving the ranch they inherited. After a night at a town fundraiser Boone wakes up in Everly’s bed and things change in their relationship. After one night with Everly Boone knows she’s the one for him and he will stop at nothing to convience her to take a chance with him.

I have been waiting for Boone and Everly’s book for a while and sadly it wasn’t everything that I wanted it to be. I liked Boone a lot and felt like he was a great guy and I felt for him at times. I wanted to like Everly but I just couldn’t and after awhile she got on my nerves. I felt that she didn't deserve Boone and that she needed to go to some serious therapy to get over her issues which are heavy duty. I never felt like things got resolved between these two and I hope things get tied up in the next book (if there even is a next book).

After three books in the Dalton Gang series I am still not 100% in love with this series. With that being said I also keep reading the books as the come out and get more and more invested in the characters and the world of Crow Hill. Unforgettable is an okay book and I didn’t loathe it like I did the first or love it like I did the second but nothing really stood out and captivated me. It would seem that I have a love-hate relationship with his series and I just can’t seem to quit it.

This review first appeared at Dear Author.

Dear Ms. Kent,

I haven’t read the first two books in this series (Undeniable and Unbreakable), but I don’t think it hindered my enjoyment of this book. There are a few things which I didn’t understand relating to the earlier couples but for the most part, the books reads well as a stand alone. As someone who hadn’t read the earlier books I appreciated that this one wasn’t bogged down with loads of backstory and I think this would be appreciated by readers familiar with the earlier stories too.

Unforgettable

Boone Mitchell is the third member of the “Dalton Gang” a trio of teenagers who were taken in* by Dave and Tess Dalton. When Tess passed away, the ranch went to the boys – Dax, Caspar and Boone and the three men returned to Crow Hill after a long absence. I say t aken in but that implies that the boys had nowhere else to go and in Boone’s case that’s certainly not true. He has a loving family (his dad is the high school football coach) who still live in Crow Hill. But all three boys were hell raisers and grew and matured under the tutelage of Dave and Tess Dalton.

Everly Grant is a reporter with the local newspaper (unimaginatively named the Reporter). She was a rising star journalist in Austin four years earlier but after her abusive boyfriend hit her for the second (and last) time, she packed up and moved to Crow Hill. She’s been basically hiding out there ever since, not really socialising except with Arwen and Faith (Dax’s and Caspar’s partners respectively) and Kendall, the local bookseller. She’s afraid to trust after her experiences with her ex but by the start of this book, is thinking that it might be time to at least have a sexy fling, even if she’s not ready for a relationship.

Boone Mitchell is the last of the Dalton Gang to be tamed, but he does not seem too adverse to the prospect of finding someone like Casper and Dax have. Boone’s sister Faith took Casper’s heart and Dax found Arwen in the short time they have all returned home.

Everly Grant is Faith’s friend, they went to college together and she moved to Crow Hill four years ago after a horrible marriage that turned abusive. When her life fell apart she was a news anchor for a major network and she hated the fact that her life all the sudden made the headlines. She now works for the local newspaper, mostly on human interest stories and loves small town life.

Boone, Dax and Casper returned to Crow Hill a few months ago and it was the talk of the town when the boys came home. Everly has met Boone several times and is a bit bothered because whenever he is around she gets flustered and tongue tied. When she sees him in the parking lot of a bar unsteady on his feet after a night of drinking, she takes him home to sleep it off and when morning comes all bets are off and things get steamy between the two.

When her boss wants her to write a human interest story about the Dalton Gang coming home, she is bound and determined to get all sides of the story no matter how difficult the men are about sharing their tales and bringing up the past.

REVIEW:
This was my first Alison Kent book. I did enjoy this book. Although I think I would have liked to read book one and two in the series first. Not that I think it would have had a big impact on Unforgettable, but because I really wanted to know more about Boone’s pals.

While I enjoyed Boone & Evelyn’s story. It felt like there were too many thing unfinished at the end of the book. Yes there was a happy ending, but a lot of loose ends that were not tied off. We never got to see what Evelyn’s human interest story was. What did she write about the Dalton gang? Did she even write the story? Also what was up with Les Upton. This part of the story just feel short for me. I kept waiting and waiting for something to happen. But no. Nothing happened at all.

But over all Unforgettable was a good story and I am sure fans of The Dalton Gang will be happy with Boones’ story.

Boone and Everly are two people that were hurt by their pasts and their past mistakes so much. I loved seeing how they tried to overcome this together. And Boone is such a great hero. He cares so much about Everly without even realizing it.

Favourite quote:

Sharing something like that with one woman only and no one else ever again . . .”
“You want that.”
He nodded. “Most men do. Those who recognize all the things a woman can offer. Things that aren’t between her legs.”

Wonderful to read a romance whose hero is not only not a billionaire, but he's financially on the ropes. Because Kent's hero thus has nothing to rely on but his own determination, loyalty, grit and strength. Loved this book!

Not only was it super gritty sexy, with a heroine addicted to shoes, which allows for some nice moments of levity, but the backstory of the pair makes for wonderful conflict, both internal and external and makes their journey to accepting their love that much more rewarding. As with other series, I loved getting reacquainted with Kent's couples from past novels in this series - and anticipating future ones from some of the hints she dropped.

A wonderful subplot was wrapped up in a very unexpected way (both the hero and I were surprised!) and the only element that felt unfinished had to do with a past character out for revenge. But I have no doubt that character will pop up and Alison Kent won't leave me hanging!

If you love erotic romances that pull out all the stops, get your raunch on with this one.

I'm so glad I came across the first book "Undeniable" of this series at the library. I've enjoyed all three of the books about the Dalton Gang. The boys grow up together in Crow Hill and got into some major trouble together. They are sent to work for Dave and Tess Dalton on their ranch. They where shown hard work, good work ethics and the kindness of two people who placed no judgment on them and love. They left after high school to seek a life of their own but came back years later to Crow Hill being left the ranch after the Dalton's death . Each of the boys have their own cross to bare, demons to chase and possible amends to make others.
I have to say I like Boone the best out of The Dalton Gang. He is one hot and sexy cowboy. He and Everly had great chemistry and some really smokin hot sex. They each have some major baggage to unload but they're attraction to each other can't be denied. It gives each of them the strength to overcome their past and find the further they both have dreamed of.

I love this series. However, I had a hard time warming up to Everly. The other female leads in this series are independent and sexually assertive, but Everly's history with her ex makes her a little different than Arwen and Faith. At times, she was somewhat cold. Boone is awesome, though, just like Dax and Casper. I love the background of Crow Hill, and how the author paints the struggles of the Dalton Gang trying to make a living working their cattle ranch. And Alison Kent knows how to write some steamy sex scenes. She is particularly adept at creating the chemistry and desire between the characters. I thought this would be the end of the series, but it doesn't feel like it. I hope that she continues with further books.

I really enjoy the novels from Alison Kent and her Dalton Gang series is filled with some very sexy cowboys. I adore how real her characters seem. Boone is fiercely loyal to his friends but they are holding on to their ranch by strings. This almost true to life portrayal of life on the ranch is very refreshing from all the ‘millionaire’ books out there (not that I don’t love those, too). Everly is trying to take life slow after she escaped an abusive relationship so when she ends up in the crosshairs of Boone she can’t deny the chemistry, she just wants a no strings attached deal. Soon they both realize that the strings are what make life more interesting and they can’t deny that they want more, but only if they are able to open up.

I had enough of the Luck business from the book before. But we get a scene in the beginning where Everly left the bar and came upon them kissing and grinding in the parking lot. Thank god it didn't go further and only lasted for a couple of minutes. It started off rocky because of that but ended up being an pretty good read.

This book was written in 2013 and I see there is no more books after. Which sucks there is still so many questions that were not answered. Hopefully down the road we will get another book. No closer about Greg or Kendall. No closer if the ranch ever makes it or if the oil money comes though. I would love those answers.

Last book in series. It's about Boone and Everly. Everly is a friend of Faiths from college. Everly needs to escape Austin because of an abusive ex. Its 4 years before Boone comes back to town. When they finally meet, Boone is immediately stricken with her. She finally feels ready to be with a guy again and decides to give Boone a try, no strings. Quickly she realizes that she likes him more emotionally and she wanted but is afraid to let him in to protect herself. Boone is struggling with keeping the ranch afloat. He thinks he has nothing to offer a women to take a wife. Some of his past fill him with shame.

Momma want! I'm just gonna carry around this cover so I can take it out when I feel bad and gaze upon it.

Nothing constructive here folks, just me living out fantasy atop fantasy.
A little better than the first book in the series; less sex (keep clutching your pearls though, still heaps of the sexytime being made) and more story.

Decent but let's not kid ourselves here, this is alone time, glass full of wine, and bubble bath reading.

*There is a scene where the main character is dressed like the cover photo and probably added a full star to the rating for that alone.

WOW!!! The Dalton Gang novels were my first try at reading Alison Kent. I was not disappointed, each book just wetted my appetite for the next book. The Dalton Gang delivered it all - tension, passion, intense edgy well- developed characters and lots of hot sizzling sex. I will be adding Alison Kent to my list of must read authors.

Unlike most series, I liked the next book more than the previous one. Making this my favourite of the series.

My biggest issue with all three books is the endings are too rushed.
I really wish she had finished the article and if we didn't get to read it, we'd at least know how it turned out.
