If goodreads would allow me to give zero stars to this book, I would rate it so. It is a poorly written piece of...of...written-something. My mother and aunt read it in Romanian and have lauded the praises of this "masterpiece! brilliant piece of literature! exceptional book!" - so I finally found it in English and read...ahem, attempted to read it. I did not finish it; I will not finish it. Reading it is like eating food with sand mixed in, painfully irritating and spit-inducing. I honestly wanted this book to be good. The sloppy writing of this mushy, overly-dramatic nonsense is tolerable only to a certain point. To anyone out there who is thinking of reading this, I say don't. Don't waste your time; there are plenty of other books out there worth your time.

Even though this book was included in the same category as Sienkiewicz's "Quo Vadis" for its theme-the early beginnings of Christianity, I would not compare the two. I found this book to be pretty shallow, both in the way of the descriptions and character development, as well its ability to stir emotions in my soul.
I only finished the book because I'm not a quitter, otherwise....
Honestly, I read children's books more meaningful than this one.
Would not recommend.

Nice story about the fall of Jerusalem. The author describes the main beliefs during that time with all the tensions and the effects on the society.
It goes on later describing the pain of a siege during a brutal war and how desperate the defenders can become when they reach the starvation point.

Astfel prevenita, Vashti incepu:
- “pentru ce scoate poetul grec Bianor, intro aluzie la fabula lui Arion aruncat in mare de marinari si salvat de delfini, din acest exemplu urmatorul invatamant: ca moartea vine de la om, iar scaparea de la pesti?”

I enjoyed reading this book, because it was so interesting and I could learn a lot. This is a book in which you'll discover with horror how hard it is during a siege, through which starvation causes the death of thousands of people, feelings of humanity are forgotten, culminating even in cancelling maternal feelings. It's about the brutal war between the Romans and Jews, and about the destruction of the Temple which demonstrates the inevitability of divine punishment. Love, hate, friendship, rivalry- a novel full of surprises and exciting to the last page. Fascinating story of a beautiful girl named Vashti, which goes through the entire novel. This book is based on the truth, it's how it happened in the past- history! The prophecy spoken by Jesus about the conquest of Jerusalem and the demolition of the temple happened faster than they (those to which it was addressed) could imagine.

I highly recommend this book to all Israel- and Jesus-lovers!
