Peter McLean was born near London in 1972, the son of a bank manager and an English teacher. He went to school in the shadow of Norwich Cathedral where he spent most of his time making up stories.
He has since grown up a bit, if not a lot, and spent 25 years working in corporate IT. He is married to Diane and is still making up stories.
He is the author of the War for the Rose Throne series, beginning with Priest of Bones, the Burned Man series, and numerous short stories for Warhammer.
OK, I almost feel guilty that the way goodreads sets things up this 4 page short story counts just as much as a 700 page book as far as my reading challenge goes. That being said, this story is awesome!!! For years I used to avoid reading short fiction, cuz being the devoted novel and series reader that I was I thought it would be a waste of my time. Over the last few years however I have discovered some of the very best writing comes in small packages. In fact I think an author who can tell a thrilling story in a short form demonstrates great talent. That said I will definitely be reading more of this authors stuff... cuz based on these 4 pages it is going to be good!
Actually, this happens to be a shining example of Peter McLean's work. Of course, it's only a handful of pages in length, so don't expect the rest of his work to meet said expectations. I mean...
I mean, I didn't like his 'Burned Man' books, but that doesn't mean anyone won't. It just means I think that while this is excellent, maybe not all of his have to be.
Within a a brief story Peter McLean managed to introduce characters, highlight their personalities and make me instantly want a full series of their misadventures. That is serious talent.
