The Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments (Latin: Congregatio de Cultu Divino et Disciplina Sacramentorum) is the congregation of the Roman Curia that handles most affairs relating to liturgical practices of the Latin Catholic Church as distinct from the Eastern Catholic Churches and also some technical matters relating to the Sacraments. Its functions were originally exercised by the Sacred Congregation of Rites, set up in January 1588 by Pope Sixtus V.

This is an important and necessary text for proper procedures relating to the Most Holy Eucharist. As such, priests and deacons need be very familiar with it, lay Communion Ministers as well. All laity are encouraged to read it; at the very least, peruse it. Liturgical abuses, i.e., incorrect procedures used at Mass, are widespread today. While it is counterproductive, not to mention uncharitable, to spend worship time critiquing the actions of priest and fellow worshipers, neither is it advisable to be so ill or misinformed about correct actions as to be completely oblivious when attending an heretical ceremony. This book addresses many questions, although certainly not all. Read parts of this quite a few times while I worked for the Church '09-'13 and just reread.

¿Qué sensación me dejó al leerlo? Me encantó porque desconocía por completo muchas cosas, pero siento que es… Una gran responsabilidad y exige mucha seriedad y RESPETO a los sacramentos, que no se puede tomar a la ligera todo lo que rodea a la celebración de la eucaristía.

Desconocía éste documento que, empezó a salirme y salirme su portada en sitios católicos que sentí que era Dios, diciéndome: “Guayna léelo” que me dije: “Wey ya, esta bien” y como son pocas páginas en digital (80) me lancé a él.
En el 2023 leí “la Carta Encíclica «Ecclesia de Eucharistia» (la Iglesia vive de la eucaristía) escrita por el entonces Papa Juan Pablo II y por consiguiente, lo que en esta Instrucción se expone, debe ser leído en continuidad con la mencionada «Ecclesia de Eucharistia». Dicha instrucción no nace producto de los abusos litúrgicos en los Estados Unidos, sino que se desarrolló después de una consulta con obispos y expertos de todo el mundo. Los abusos de la ley litúrgica que se discuten en la instrucción ocurren en muchas partes del mundo y quizá no estén todos presentes en las diócesis de los Estados Unidos de América. Desconozco qué sucedió en Norteamérica y la instrucción no da detalles.
Dividido en varios capítulos ésta INSTRUCCIÓN aborda la definición y tareas que llevan los Obispos, la Comisión de Obispos, los presbíteros, los diáconos y, por supuesto, las tareas de los fieles laicos con respecto a la liturgia; Como así también define “la plegaria eucarística”, partes de la misa, la unión de varios ritos con la celebración de la misa, la Sagrada Comunión: la disposición para recibirla, cómo se la distribuye, la comunión de los sacerdotes, la comunión bajo las dos especies: aquí yo aprendí el término “Comunión por intinción”. También habla de otros aspectos que se refieren a la eucaristía como ser el lugar donde se celebra la eucaristía, que tiene que ser sagrado; Los vasos sagrados, que también fue para mí de nuevo conocimiento, como así también los paños que se distribuyen sobre la sagrada mesa.
También explica las vestiduras litúrgicas que refiere a “la diversidad de los colores en las vestiduras sagradas tiene como fin expresar con más eficacia, aun exteriormente, tanto las características de los misterios de la fe que se celebran como el sentido progresivo de la vida cristiana a lo largo del año litúrgico.” Es lo que usa el sacerdote y los nombres que recibe cada prenda como así también los diáconos.
Luego vuelve al tema de la eucaristía y la reserva de la misma y su culto fuera de la misa donde se incluye lo que es la visita al santísimo y la adoración eucarística. Fue mi capítulo favorito. Luego, hace referencia a los Ministerios extraordinarios de los fieles laicos, en caso de ausencia del sacerdote y explica la asignación de “asistente pastoral” que apunta a fieles laicos. Dicha tarea no debe asimilarse demasiado a la forma del ministerio pastoral de los clérigos; El ministro extraordinario de la sagrada comunión, cuya definición es: “«ministro de la Eucaristía» sólo se refiere, propiamente, al sacerdote. También, en razón de la sagrada Ordenación, los ministros ordinarios de la sagrada Comunión son el Obispo, el presbítero, el diácono (…) el acólito instituido ritualmente, que por la institución es ministro extraordinario de la sagrada Comunión, incluso fuera de la celebración de la Misa.”
Por ultimo aborda la predicación, celebraciones que se realizan en ausencia del sacerdote, aquellos (sacerdotes) que han sido apartados del estado clerical para finalizar con los “remedios” ante un abuso en la celebración de la sagrada Liturgia, urge de forma urgente «la formación bíblica y litúrgica del pueblo de Dios, pastores y fieles», de modo que la fe y la disciplina de la Iglesia, en lo que se refiere a la sagrada Liturgia, sean presentadas y comprendidas rectamente.
Recomendado para todo aquel deseoso de saber acerca de la Sagrada Liturgia católica.

A important response from the Vatican on abuses during the Mass. The book highlights a variety of common abuses by priests and lay persons during the Mass and emphasizes the importance of a consistent celebration of the Mass.

The main premise of the document can be summed in this quote:
"The Mystery of the Eucharist 'is too great for anyone to permit himself to treat it according to his own whim, so that its sacredness and its universal ordering would be obscured'. On the contrary, anyone who acts thus by giving free rein to his own inclinations, even if he is a Priest, injures the substantial unity of the Roman Rite, which ought to be vigorously preserved, and becomes responsible for actions that are in no way consistent with the hunger and thirst for the living God that is experienced by the people today. Nor do such actions serve authentic pastoral care or proper liturgical renewal; instead, they deprive Christ's faithful of their patrimony and their heritage."
