A priest named Martin Luther with the breakaway from the Catholic Church that was the start of the Protestant Reformation. Luther question that the pope was the lineal successor to Peter on whom Christ leveled the charge to be the head of his followers. Luther was also more concerned with social issues instead of matters of faith. The author examines the conflicts between Luther and the traditional church which did have some excesses and abuse. This split would lead to conflicts between Catholic teachings and Protestant beliefs as well as war and discrimination on both sides. Which of a more academic natural it does greater detail than normally covered in schools.
