Avalon has made a lot of dangerous enemies. The Realm has issued a bounty on the infamous Fire-Mage's head, labelling her leader of the human-alliance, and traitor to Mage-kind. Soon, strangers begin to recognize Avalon after seeing her wanted poster in the streets, and seek to earn the cash reward for her capture. Forced to go into hiding, Avalon flees, not knowing who to trust, or what to do. Yet something frightens Avalon more than the Realm; her own burning desire for revenge which threatens to consume her, and turn Avalon into the monster the government depicts her to be.
Destinies are revealed, and fates unfurl in this epic finale to 'The Fire Mage Trilogy'.

I feel really bad about giving 1 star to Falling Ashes. The first two books were enjoyable and I so wanted to love the final book. Unfortunately, I could barely tolerate the story and kept putting the book down -- took me a full week to finally finish it.
While the story has a good framework that could’ve been built on, the author abandoned the climactic moment. Three books of backstory and build up and then in the final chapter they destroy a single building and suddenly the revolution is won. Revolutions and societal change do not happen that easily.
Even though this book, and well lets face it, the whole trilogy, needs a good editing, this story is great! I absolutely love this trilogy. The misspelled words, missing words, and using the wrong word in place of a correct word did bring me out of the story quite a bit. For instance, in one part of the book it said that Fae grabbed an "bow" from her quiver and fitted it to her bow. All in all if you don't mind a few editing issues, this is a great trilogy, full of adventure. I would have given five stars, if not for the editing issues.
I can't believe this is the end of Avalons story! a great trilogy and one that I enjoyed reading over to refresh my memory and prep for this last installment.
This book starts fantastically, and progresses to get better and better, and then at the end BAM, it's over, no closure for half of the characters and the other half are rendered moot. very anti-climatic
what happened to Martinez? he got his memory back and disappeared. What happened to the Slave trade, yes they blew up the main building, but the slave trade is WORLD WIDE as pointed out so many times, who went on the mission to destroy that?
What happened at the Manor, the Head of the manor collected old human items, which was obviously taboo (otherwise why be locked up) and he just pops back into the series at the end and disappears again.
What happened to the Seth Swaggart? he was following Ava doomsaying and then disappears. His story felt like it was going to go somewhere with Ava, but never eventuated.
Camryn is pregnant, but to who? What happened to Dagon?
So many characters got brought into this series and then petered away into nothing, and some of their stories were brought up as if important, then dismissed. I really felt that it was unnecessary to provide background/personal stories on characters (like the assassin) that in the end were unimportant. Like saying that Ava had to die for everyone to win. She doesn't die and there's no uproar, but they win after killing only two more guards (and what happened to Ethel?)
There were also a few discrepancies from the first two books. 'Time pieces' started being called 'clocks' and Ava asked for her friends to stop arguing and treat each other like human beings. But Humans are treated badly in this series- so that doesn't work.
but enough of whinging! I really enjoyed the premise of this book, the freeing of humans and how each book had a slightly separate issue to face for Ava and Jack. And written in the kind of way that at the end of each chapter, you just have to read the next little bit!
This was one of those awesome series that you just can't put down. I was up til early hours of the morning wanting to see how they were going. I hope we see more stories from this world, spin off of some of the other characters, I'd LOVE to see Helenas story!! perhaps that would be a good way to wrap up some of the other characters stories too :)
***************************** I did receive a comment on a previous upload of this review from Kate BLoomfield to direct me to: http://katebloomfieldauthor.blogspot.... This is a good way to understand what happened. But I still believe another book should be written if all the information can't be answered in text. Although it answers my questions, I don't want to have to look elsewhere/research to get the book completed in my head

I got past the racism thing that I felt was added. I'm not really sure why I objected to it in the first place, except I don't remember it figuring into the first book in this series. It was a weird add on.
I DID NOT like the narration jumps in the third book. Why all of a sudden am I getting other points of view? That feels like a weak move on the author's part.
Finally, the ending. Holy rushed ending. We barely had a big battle AT ALL. What the heck happened? Ava won the battle and that was the end of it? I don't think that's how stuff works. Was she suddenly a ruler?? How did she enforce the pro-human and anti-slavery? Also...what level mage IS Ava?? I feel like it's not the low level we heard in the beginning.
Who knows? The story skips to an epilogue where everything is just perfect and there is no mention of how the heck they got there. Also: Hawthorne's pups....what happened? Find happy masters?? DUNNO. They appear to be around and fully grown in the epilogue with no explanation there either.
Honestly, a lot of the problem I have with this book could have been solved with a more thought out/planned ending. It felt rushed and lots of questions were left unanswered.
If the author has that much information at loose ends and the reader has that many questions, she should have just written a fourth damn book.
That pisses me off enough to want to give this book even less stars. What a lazy lazy way to go about telling a story. I'm not impressed and I am probably going to try to remember to avoid this author in the future....

Falling Ashes has it all, action, adventure, romance, and lots of warfare and magic of course. I loved this book simply because it brought back both old and new characters for a return visit. As well as introduced a huge plethora of Mages I had never met, my favorite of whom being Dagon and the water Mages and Fae who was a skewed version of "Brave" lol. This trilogy and its companion pieces have been a breath of fresh air, like the rest of Bloomfield's writing. You can rest assured that you won't read anything like this anytime soon, nor have you before. You simply have to dive in and let it soak you into this unique, dystopian world. While there are many things that were left unanswered or unexplored near the end, I felt satisfied if not sad. This book tugged at my heartstrings more than once, particularly the ending. Take a chance and dive into Bloomfield's imagination and prepare yourselves for one epic ride.
I was so looking forward to the rest of the series. I did enjoy the books, but I felt that this last book was a bit rushed. I still have a lot of questions about Jack & Avalon and how the rebellion turned out. I think it would be fun to see some more prequels or sequel type stuff about this world. **Recieved a note from the author - thank you, Kate! that many of the questions and comments I made were answered on her blog.http://katebloomfieldauthor.blogspot.... **
Falling Ashes was a great end to this wonderful trilogy!!! I have to say though, I am very curious to see how some of the new characters I met in this last book ended up. What happened to Fae, and Dagon?? I was just starting to loves those two!!
I have to say, I absolutely loved how Avalon and Jacks story ended...(sigh) I just love those two!!!
This book was amazing! I love the character development within the existing characters and all of the new characters really added to the story. The writing is spectacular and this is a truly unique idea for a story. I'm only sad that this adventure is over. However, I am excited to see the new books coming out by Kate Bloomfield!
I loved this series top to bottom, is a lovely journey that will make you laugh, hate and cry all the way through. I don't want to spoil anyone but the only thing that I would have added was the ending stories from the other characters. Even though is a book that gives you the sense of a real ending and doesn't leave you wandering of what did happen to this main characters and to their goal.
The series was really good. There were times where i thought that i knew what was going to happen and then something else happened instead. Completely awesome. Recommend it if you like your fantasy or sci-fi. :D
Avalon and Jack with the help of Hawthorn find her family home destroyed and her sister Helena taken by the Realm will they find her and rescue her before its to late and what other trouble will Avalon find herself in.
Liked the idea of the original book, this one however was very rushed. Not only in the editing, but the story line. Needs to be edited, polished, and the story needs some work.
A perfect ending to the series. Very well done. I'm sad that there aren't any more. I get attached to the characters and could easily ready 10-15 book series'.
Enjoyed the first two books. This one was rather anticlimactic. Ava seemed to be less & less capable and it ended rather abruptly. Still a fun 1x read.
The book is good..but I felt there's no closure with the characters. I'm surprised that she has to killed Raeven in the book which in my opinion she shouldn't...
I loved most of the book, but it kind of fell away at the end. There was no real conclusion, even though the epilogue was somewhat satisfying, it jumped to that without really finishing the story.
