The author looks at 15 women from the Old and New Testaments, beginning with Eve and concluding with Priscilla. Mary and Martha have separate chapters and Martha is presented as a a homeowner, gracious hostess, and friend of Jesus, not as a scolding drudge and fussy housekeeper. Wold focuses on one significant character trait of each woman as well as providing historical background where applicable. For example, she states there is no historical evidence of Esther as a Persian queen. This is an excellent book to look at familiar Biblical women with what for me was a different perspective--at least for several of the women. But it is not simply a retelling of stories but a challenge to carry those characteristics into our modern lives to be women of faith and Spirit.
