Voula has plans and they don't include men. Well, not any one man, at least. Finishing her oncology residency in Manhattan, she lives her life the way she wants it, until fate, maybe, brings her and Mike together, again.
Mike, a successful electrician, is the good guy. Or so he's been told. When it comes to women, he ends up in the friend zone, but it doesn't really matter to him until he meets Voula.
They share a cultural connection, but is that all? Can Mike convince Voula he's enough for her? Can Voula let him in into her world?
This had a lot of potential. The tone of the writing was enjoyable, the concept was interesting. It’s an easy breezy romcom feel.
But I just couldn’t stand the male love interest. He was insufferable. Purely insufferable. Constantly called himself the “good guy” and waxing poetic about how he owns his own business, but women won’t date him because he’s “too nice”. He read like a 28 year old, red pilled, andrew Tate incel. I half expected him to go on a tangent about how women are evil gold diggers and he deserves a super model who cherishes him every moment of every day. It was so disappointment in comparison to the fiery fmc who takes no shit and works hard for everything she has.
When the male lead is constantly talking about it being women’s fault that no one will date him while he’s the most annoying man you’ve ever met, it’s an instant ick. I felt like I was blast back to dealing with obnoxious assholes on tinder.
Once you start, you won’t put it down until the end. Authentic characters and setting with real life issues. Tackled serious themes of bullying and cancer which added to the building emotion and the characters, Voula and Mike. You want them to make it. A happily ever after
As soon as I started reading, I didn’t want to stop reading. It’s a perfect continuation of MJ Golias’ debut ‘Greek Snowball Surprise Cookies’ by focusing on Stacey’s best friend, Voula. Her story provides a unexpected second chance romance with undeniable sparks with the perfect ending. I can’t wait to read more from MJ Golias.
