Roller Derby: The Sensation that Caused a Book!: Confessions of a Roller Derby Mascot

Rate this book
Roller derby has existed since the 1930s but never looked the way it does today. Thought long-dead after several comebacks and fadeouts, the sport was revolutionized at the dawn of the 21st century by the efforts of strong, ambitious, and intelligent women. Within their revamping, a roller derby culture developed that is as laced into the sport as the skates themselves.

Roller Derby: The Sensation That Caused a Book! Confessions of a Roller Derby Mascot is a firsthand account of Bane-ana's travels across America (and the Atlantic) to understand why, behind the wheels, derby is unique. What he discovers deep at the heart of the culture is derbylove: the recognition that all derbyists are united in the common task of rebuilding an old sport into something new and lasting.

I was excited to receive this book from my mother for Christmas because one of my passions is roller derby. I liked this book but I didn't love it. I think the reason why I didn't enjoy it as much was because it had some humor I didn't really catch on to. This book took me a long time to finish because their was some boring spots and over explanation of certain things. It was interesting though to follow his aspect of finding what us derby folk call derby love. If you are a derby enthusiast than I suggest you give this book a try. Maybe you will enjoy it more than I did.
