Strategies to Invest, Stockpile and Build Security for Today and the Post-Collapse The Prepper's Financial Guide (Paperback) - Common

Rate this book
A DISASTER-PROOF INVESTMENT STRATEGY TO ENSURE STABILITY AND SECURITY BEFORE, DURING, AND BEYOND A MARKETPLACE MELTDOWN

From Dutch tulips to credit default swaps, history proves over and over that markets are fragile, fickle machines all too prone to unexpected breakdown. With strategies for inventive and intelligent alternative investments, ,The Prepper’s Financial Guide positions forward-thinking readers for inevitable market downturns, long-term financial turmoil, and even catastrophic collapse.

This straight-talking guide breaks down complex, disaster-proof investments that help readers ensure their long-term financial stability and current peace of mind. Instead of stocking paper money, expert prepper Jim Cobb offers an approach based on slowly stockpiling items that will maintain their value far beyond the end of the dollar, including precious metals, gold and silver coins, and barter-worthy survival tools and food items.

Using careful historical research — including in-depth looks at the Great Depression, Argentina’s economic collapse of 1998, and the Great Recession of 2008 — Cobb identifies commodities that have maintained their value through epic market crashes. Featuring step-by-step and month-by-month investment guides, this essential handbook also includes information on building small, off-the-grid marketplaces where materials and goods can be exchanged and newer, stronger economies and communities can emerge during chaotic times.

Prepper's Financial Guide begins where most survival manuals leave off - after the storm has passed or in preparation for made-made financial disasters. In this book, Jim Cobb discusses global financial catastrophes that have occurred historically and gives you strategies to cope with similar situations in the future. From debt reduction to building your finances, acquiring precious metals to bartering, this book has it covered. I especially appreciated the chapter on developing skills which may be in demand for bartering now or at some point in the future. Securing your valuables and developing self-sufficiency are also covered with great detail in this book. There is even a list of goods that should be stored for bartering. I found this book to be quite practical, and it will serve as a great reference in the library of anyone who is concerned how about their families financial stability following a natural or man-made disaster. A review copy of this book was provided by the publisher in exchange for this honest review.

dated and simplistic

While I did find a few helpful ideas in the book those could have been summarized into a pamphlet. Most information was very basic, and honestly, just obvious to any reasonably intelligent and informed reader.

I recently received a copy of Prepper's Financial Guide: Strategies to Invest, Stockpile and Build Security for Today and The Post-Collapse Marketplace by Jim Cobb. This book was provided to me by the publisher for my consideration, objective thoughts and opinions.

I can honesty say that I’ve never heard of an entire book that looks at prepping financially… until now. The Prepper’s Financial Guide has great information for anyone with any concerns about their financial future whether it’s in our current economy or in the aftermath of a financial collapse. The book covers practical topics, listed with pros and cons with well thought out steps that anyone can implement.

Jim Cobb starts off this book with a great history lesson of hard economic times from around the world, explained in easy to understand sections. While I knew of the situations that were discussed, I learned that I didn’t know what I thought that I knew. I now understand the causes for the individual crisis as well
as their interdependencies.

Next, the book gives some practical advice for reducing debt as well as making and saving money. Following this, currency then precious metals and minerals and how to reliably obtain them are explained in easy-to-understand detail.

Midway through the book, Mr. Cobb discusses the popular topic of barter and trade with some common and out-of-the-box ideas as well as necessary skills to have so that you will be able to have recurring income. Following this, the author discusses various ways, including pros and cons of safeguarding your wealth

The best thing that I liked about this book in addition to the main topic mentioned is the author’s encouragement during the entire journey towards financial preparedness. Jim Cobb lays out practical, easy-to-follow strategies that will result in a lifestyle change for the better that will yield great results for the reader, even in the event that we never see a financial collapse.

Wow. Another set of easy to follow formulas for everyone and anyone who needs the guidance to understanding and planning of their financial futures, especially in a SHTF situation.
I enjoyed the barter and trade portion the best. Everyone will have different ideas on what they’ll need to live with in a post-apocalyptic world and Mr. Cobb lays an outline down that everyone can follow.
A lot of the book was spent dealing with how to best prepare yourself for a doomsday event, including dealing with precious metals ( Silver? I have to get some! ), making your investments in variable markets and items which will be in high demand when an economic collapse befalls us all.
You don’t need to be a stock broker or financial guru to understand the principles contained within. What you do need is to be open to advice from an expert in the field.

Lots of information stocked in this book . Everything for what to do and buy both financially and barter/basic necessities. I did know some of the information but there was a good number of things I need to add to my prepper to do list. I highly recommend this for anyone who knows what the future brings! My husband now has the book and is reading it as well!

I received this book from goodreads in exchange for a reveiw

Update: I gave this book to my husband,(who reads slower than a snail) 2 days ago and he's over halfway thru it! He LOVES this book! He has found mounds of info even he didnt know and he's very up to date on this subject. He's impressed by the fact that this is CURRENT information as well as NEW information. In his eyes this book should get a 10 star!

I received this book as part of the Goodreads First Reads Program for a fair review.

Overview: Mr. Cobb is showing us how preppers are able to fund their preps. He hopes to encourage the non-prepper, so to speak, to give some of his ideas a shot.

Likes: Not only does Mr. Cobb give you the advice to check your credit score, he also shows you how to go about doing so. I enjoyed the sections on skills-bartering and the garden. Plus, I think the hydroponics would be fun.

Dislikes: I didn’t care for the insistence on bartering at all costs. But then again, I prefer to give if someone asks.

Conclusion: It’s an interesting book. I hope you find it interesting.

I was first intro-ed into the world of prepping from watching the reality tv show about people who are Doomsday Preppers. If you haven't seen it, it is fascinating. Your eyes will be glued to the screen!

That said, I am a novice to prepping and prepping culture. I found this book to be well organized and interesting. Admittedly though, my knowledge of prepping is very limited. I found it very interesting the different ways one can prepare for the worst. For me though, I am more of an observer than a doer when it comes to prepping. I read this mostly because I was extremely interested in knowing more about the culture.

If you enjoy shows such as Doomsday Preppers, you may like this.
