Kevin Baker is the author of the New York, City of Fire trilogy: Dreamland, Paradise Alley, and Strivers Row. Most recently, he's been writing about politics for Harper's Magazine and the New York Observer.
I appreciated the summary of our colonial history, and it was well written and interesting. I have studied this topic a lot and still learned a couple new things. However, one of the features I was looking forward to using on my Fire was the enhanced books like this that include video, but none of the vids worked so that was disappointing. Honestly, I could find a more thorough history to just read if I was not hoping to use that feature. I thought the series would be good to share with the kids studying American History. Not sure if I will read the other 2 volumes though.
