This book was so fascinating to me, I’ve never read a novel set during the Irish civil war in the 1900s,

Their love story was so beautiful, and the ending was tragic.

I hope Scott is happy :(

There was a lot of information to do with the politics behind a lot of the unionist and loyalists and I found that really interesting, but I felt like since it was a true story the author stuck to the factual events but I would have been more invested if the book delved into them as people and their emotions at the time of event slightly more.

Who knows how far the truth has been stretched in this book and for what end - possibly not at all, but it is a gripping read and the ending of the story is unforgettable.

I bought this book years ago but only recently picked it up. I was hesitant to read it when I read it was a sort of love story, though it kept me interested waiting for one of them to find the truth about the other. Think it was a doomed relationship as someone so extreme would never cut her ties and both lied to each other throughout. Bit repetitive in parts but a good and sometimes sad story. Felt sorry for both, one being brainwashed by bigotry and the other so vulnerable to be fooled this would ever work. I hope he found solace in the end.
