Ryohgo Narita (成田 良悟, Narita Ryōgo) is a Japanese light novelist. He won the Gold Prize in the 9th Dengeki Novel Prize for Baccano!, which was made into a TV anime in 2007.[1] His series Durarara!! was also made into a TV anime, which began airing January 2010
There are two traits found in most of Narita's works: * Narita writes extremely fast, one volume a month if he wishes - with tons of spelling errors and missing words as a tradeoff. The editors like to leave them sometimes just for fun, though. * His work titles often have an exclamation mark at the end (i.e. Baccano!, Vamp!, Durarara!!, etc.).
With the end of prohibition having dried up their income from illegal speakeasies, the Martillo Family is now running underground casinos. Firo Prochainezo helps run one. But it’s clear his stay in Alcatraz had an effect on him.
The comic relief duo of Isaac and Miria has run out of money. So they go looking for a job. And they’re not the only ones. Jacuzzi Splot can’t pay the Martillo Family protection money anymore, so he too is in need of a new job. And the boss of the Martillo Family thinks he has just the right job for Jacuzzi at their new casino.
Psychopathic killer Ladd Russo is released from Alcatraz prison. And he wants to pay Firo a visit. But not before he meets up with wrench-swinging maniac Graham Specter.
Notorious terrorist Huey Laforet has escaped from Alcatraz. FBI assistant director Victor Talbot fills in his fellow FBI agents on all the necessary details about the immortals to catch Huey and put him behind bars again. But an unforgettable surprise visit from immortal Ronny Schiatto puts them all on the edge of their seat. The message seems clear: you can go around hunting immortals all you want. But you better be careful. As there are some immortals you don’t want to mess with. Victor Talbot of course already knows this. After all, he is one too. But there are some things he doesn’t know.
Huey Laforet meanwhile pays a visit to his daughter, Chané. And to her lover, the former Claire Stanfield who now goes by the name Felix Walken. Because it seems he has a favor to ask them.
I like how the series has been slowly building up to this moment. In the beginning of the series, Huey Laforet was just a figure lurking in the shadows who let his subordinates do all the work. Slowly but surely, we got to know more about this character as he stepped out of the shadows. Then we got to read his backstory in the 1700s books. And now it’s finally time to let his character reach its full potential.
A lot of characters and plot threads to keep track of. But once all the players are introduced, all roads lead to Firo Prochainezo’s casino. And there’s some really cool twists near the end. This is a strong start to the final arc of the 1930s books.
I guess all the characters are returning for the finale of he 1930's arc, and all i can say is woah. Each chapter and each paragraph is simply plot twist after another, with returning characters being the major characters from previous books (like Firo, Isaac and Miria, Ronnie, etc) as well as minor characters where I actually only barely remember who they were. In the past, the 1930's volumes had featured a handful of previously introduced characters, and a handful of new characters and threw them together to make something epic. In this volume, Narita-sama has thrown every single character you can name into the pot, and made something in which epic cannot describe. It's great to see all the characters all at once, making chaos and driving my head insane. Of course, the best part was Melvis (is that his name, I already forgot). I really can't wait to find out more about him! Although reading the author's notes is making me feel really sad :( It's really hard to believe that Baccano! will come to an end after this 1935 arc and the 2003 volume... It's such an amazing series, and it's really hard to imagine it ending. (Of course, part of this difficulty is because it's in the middle of such chaos at the moment.) Now I really can't wait to read the next volume and find out where this story will head from here!
Wow the series starting to move towards an comclusion. The main people seem like they are gathering to an hopefully epic and non-confusing finale. The various groups in the rolling bootleg era of Baccano are gathering in New York and sizing each other up. Huey Lafront is out of prison and seems to be right in the middle of things.
