Duck wants to have a watermelon feast, but when they begin to roll, the chase is on! Duck invites his friends to join in with, "If you help, you can have some too". A delightful story about friendship and perseverance that ends in the most surprising place of all.
The story is simple but has a great message. Perseverance and working together are good lessons and the kids really took to it. I usually let my Mom who works in a elementary school read the kids books I am reviewing and this book was a success in the her kindergarten class.
The story flowed and was a easy read for the kids. They enjoyed seeing the different ways the animals were able to come up with to keep on the trail of the watermelons. I personally loved the illustrations. The repetition easily kept the attention of kids and they were saying it back to Mom before the end of the book.
I think that the Whites have a winning combination of author and illustrator here. I can't wait to read more of their books.
I received the book for free through Goodreads First Reads in return for my honest review of the material.
This book was an absolute delight! The illustrations were adorable and the story easy to follow.
This story is about a group of farm animals that slowly one by one join a chase to catch 2 watermelons that are on the loose and travel by every means possible from rolling down hills, to trains, to even an air plane.
The book shows how working together can accomplish the goal in the end. I love the moral of teamwork and rewards!
I really enjoyed reading this to my grandsons. The illustrations were adorable! and the story was really cute, showing the animals working toward a common goal. It was overall a nice story
What a cute children's book!I loved the illustration and the writing they went very well together. Cute story too and I like the fact that it had morals, Like sharing and working things out.
Chasing Watermelons is an adorable children’s book. The book teaches about the value of hard work. It also teaches about sharing. Duck's friends helped him catch the watermelons. As a reward for helping, Duck shared the watermelon with all of them. Hard work pays off. Some of the ideas and illustrations were a little silly. For example, the animals controlling the hot air balloon. However, I think the silliness will make the children like it even more. My favorite illustration is the one of all five animals on a single bike. It made me chuckle. This is a great book for parents and children to read together.
I am a fan of this children’s book because it is pleasing to the eye (bright colors, simple lettering, accurate sketching of the animals) and because of the positive message it represents. These lessons can be applied to any aspect of their lives, whether it is with schoolwork or just doing something they love.
I received this book from Goodreads First Reads and read it tonight with my 5 year old. It was a cute story and my son enjoyed guessing what the next plan to catch the watermelons would be. I was not a big fan of the illustrations, they were okay but nothing that really drew me to the book. However, that didn't seem to matter to my son and that's really all the matters.
