The women’s fiction debut of award-winning romance and mystery author Edie Claire!
Once upon a hot, lazy summer at Indian Lake, Pennsylvania, two giggling twelve-year-old girls swore to stay best friends forever. But some promises are hard to keep...
When hospital social worker Teagan Hansen is called to the bedside of a Jane Doe who has been beaten and left for dead with no ID and no memory, she expects to be dealing with a victim of domestic violence. The last thing she expects is to look into the eyes of the childhood friend who disappeared abruptly from her life fourteen years before.
Concussed, broken, and hypothermic, Jamie can’t remember her own name, much less what personal circumstances brought her to such tragedy. But as the pieces of her memory begin to fit together, she does remember how much her friendship with Teagan meant to her through the long years of foster care, hard work, and heartbreak that followed that one magical summer.
As the indomitable Teagan vows to help Jamie get back on her feet again, the women’s bond strengthens anew. But with Jamie’s life under threat from a man she can’t remember--a man who is determined to find her again before she does--Teagan’s loyalties to her friend, her profession, and her new marriage are tested to their limits. And when the women realize that their pasts have been intertwined far more than deeply than either of them knew, the fate that separated them once before threatens to tear apart them again. And this time, it could be forever.
No matter the genre, USA-Today bestselling novelist and playwright Edie Claire strives to infuse all her writing with both warmth and humor. Her family-friendly Leigh Koslow cozy mystery series, a favorite of animal lovers that was originally published in 1999, was reborn in 2012 to become a Kindle Top-10 bestseller. Her romantic novels range from women’s fiction with romantic elements to a blend of romance and mystery, beginning with her traditionally published contemporaries, the award-winning Long Time Coming and Meant To Be, and continuing with her USA-Today bestselling Pacific Horizons series, whose characters follow the migration of the humpback whales to some of the most gorgeous locations on earth. In any Edie Claire work, the reader may be assured that while intrigue may beckon and tensions rise, love and happiness will always triumph in the end!
Edie has worked as a veterinarian, a childbirth educator, and a scientific/technical writer. A mother of three, she lives in Pennsylvania and aspires to become a snowbird.
This book is amazing. I could not put it down. Full of suspense and a great storyline. The characters are so believable- you feel like you have just stepped into their lives for the time you are reading the book, and it’s a shock to resurface at the end of the book and get back to reality. Thoroughly recommend.
Readable entertaining chick lit, very light, very easy, short, quick read. It will keep you entertained about as long as watching a movie and you will forget it just as quickly. It has a couple of allegedly strong, independent female characters who are bonded to each other. But we know they are strong, independent women because they keep telling us so. In fact both of them in different ways seem extremely focused on the men in their lives, needy, insecure. And the bond between them was one summer of friendship when they were twelve after which they have had no contact until now when they are around thirty.
Plot depends a lot on coincidence and the relationship between the two women is not very believable.
Edit: Picked this up again because I was bored and didn't remember it very much. It does not stand up to rereading. On second reading it shows itself to be your basic trashy soap opera romance / mystery Lifetime movie type novel. Jamie conveniently gets little pieces of her memory back at just the right times to move the plot along. Rating it now, it might not even be three stars, but I don't change ratings.
Teagan and Jamie met one summer at the lake while Reagan stayed with her grandparents Two young girls being raised by single mothers One day Teagan hit her head on the dock while trying to do a flip. Jamie was very frighten and helped her friend from drowning. They made a pact that summer to become sisters with their own little ritual with mud. Fifteen years later, Teagan is a social worker at a hospital. A young lady her age comes into the error not knowing who she is. Teagan realized this her friend Jamie from that summer at the lake. What happens next is full of surprises as the two ladies try to regain Jamie's memory. Lots of twists and turns. A good story of long lost friendship and growing up.
I can easily relate to Jamie. I lost a parent at a young age as well but found a best friend whom I loved dearly. Unfortunately she moved away when we were 12 and I have recently been reunited with her so this book really touched me. There is also the intrigue of who Jamie is and what happened to her. I finished this book in 2 days and can't wait to check out more of this authors work!
I've read several Edie Claire books but I believe this may just be one of my favorites. The plot starts with a bang and the suspense keeps you reading. Loved the relationships between Reagan and husband Eric and also Reagan and Jamie. I loved the ending and how the issues are resolved. Great job!
I am a big fan of Edie Claire, but I could not get into these characters and the relationship between the two women. Very strained and unusual, and difficult to make a case for why the sane character would have anything to do with the crazy one.
I enjoyed this book. It was a quick read and I like mysteries. I picked this book after reading another one by Edie Claire which I liked a little better. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a nice beach read. I will probably read more by this author.
I wasn't sure what to expect with this book, but I got a surprise. This was touching, heart gripping, and powerful. The characters were enjoyable to read and I found myself totally engrossed in the story.
I sat down on a rainy day and read this marvelous book in under 3 hours. Very good, kept me wanting to read more and not put it down. I only got up twice!
