I was still in a mood for manga about cooking/baking/etc. when I came across this one.
An unfortunate guy, our MC, has a delicious soul and gets a visit from someone from hell who has determined our MC is going to be his meal. He first needs to become a chef though, a top chef. And thus the story begins. Our MC is getting into a lot of trouble because Dogma likes to take over his body at inconvenient times and Dogma isn't that nice. :P You can imagine that our MC doesn't make many friends because of this.
I am not sure if I like Dogma that much. I know he is from hell, and he is supposed to be evil, but really? I hate his attitude and what he does to our MC. He wants the boy to become a great chef, yet I fear he will kill him before that happens with all the violence he does to the MC.
I did like how our MC was a pretty average guy with no big dreams. Even through everything he remains pretty calm, though you did see him change. He made a big decision, something he never thought would do and I was happy for him. He deserves something better in his life.
It definitely has that Shokugeki no Souma feel to it (yes, even though this one came out years before the SnS manga, that is because I read SnS quite some time ago. Had I read this one before SnS I would have said SnS would have this manga's feel). Not only the way people react to food (like they are getting an orgasm), but also the school part.
The art is pretty decent, at times it was amazing (those details!).
Probably will continue, not sure yet though. Again, Dogma is a bit too annoying for my taste.
Mixes my favorite manga genre, that of cooking with an supernatural element. The author both haves some fun with the sheer blandness of the main character and the flamboyant evil of Dogma. These types of manga is best when the dish cooked gets some background and that element is certainly here but as always with these im left feeling sad that it isn't in color. Food should be colorful dammit!
There’s some really awesome cooking mangas out there and I always love a good cooking genre manga but thought this wasn’t really good, just a dull story😟🍖✌️❤️❤️❤️
At first choose this manga because of the handsome guy on the cover and the title's similarity with my favorite cooking show.
This manga revolves around Dogma, a gourmet of Hell who loves to eat Chef's soul. But because of the lack of good quality souls, he decided to raise a "true chef's soul" by himself. He chooses Satoru, a young man who doesn't have any will or dream or motivation, a perfect "empty soul" and train him to be a "true chef"
While the premise is very fantasy (a gourmet from hell? Really?), the foods are pretty normal, and can be created by a (not-so) normal human.
The drawing style are complex but considered clean for a shonen manga. And obviously, the foods in this manga are very mouth-watering.
The story itself is very promising with a good pace, from the introduction of Dogma and Satoru until the enrollment of Satoru in the cooking school escalated nicely without any rush.
For you who loves cooking manga with a touch of pretty faces (Dogma is very hot, you know), this is the best manga!
(I read this in Bahasa, the translation is very good and clean)
It's fun. And that's all. there are points where is beyond ridiculous, but hey, I think that a gag manga is about that. Satoru nearly made it for a good lead boy, but still lacks a lot of things... like fighting spirit or a special hability. Right for that he is incredible fine with the whole situation and gets the oportunity to grow. It's a little like Tsuna from Katekyo Hitman Reborn, but this stays like a gag manga all the while. The whole idea about a demon raising a soul to eat it is hilarious and dumb, but that´s what this is for. So laugh a lot and then if you didn't liked it, go read something to make your big brain grow a lot more, but you're losing the free cooking lessons that this provides. They are if not good, interesting enough.
The first volume just made me laugh and think that you couldn't make a better Kuroshitsuji/Black Butler rip off. But after two/three volumes it really gets about cooking first before being a soul eating demon deal and that made it very interesting. You come to forget about that aspect and really enjoy the relations between the characters, the different departments of the school,...Dogma becomes a character of his own and not a "I've seen that before" character that you get somehow attached to and which makes the whole plot interesting. You really have to pass above the first volume which was not so good for me to reach the nice story that hopefully follows it with some very interesting characters! After that I truly loved the series!
Another crazy cooking style manga. Not bad, but nothing special either. I just wonder, does that kind of school really exist in Japan, or it just purely out of imagination.
