Beer Goggles

“Useless, useless, bastards!”

With a thunderstorm replacing the forecasted warm sunshine, Travis’s day started badly. He hoped a trip to Blackpool, with his friend Dave, would lift his spirits.

He would be wrong.

After encountering “Uncle Fester”, a naked gardener wielding a rake, and an incontinent dog, he should have turned the car around and gone home. Instead, Dave suggests a visit to the pub, where teetotaller Travis discovers a taste for alcohol.

If the opposite of serendipity existed, this would be it.

An hour later, someone calls Dave an ambulance.

Things go downhill from there.

Subsequently arrested for breaking and entering whilst wearing gorilla suits (and who knew that would be illegal), they have to convince the police they have been witness to the murder of a beautiful woman. Or have they? Or could it be, like the police suggest, a bad case of Beer Goggles.

Beer Goggles is an epic(hangover) tale of (half)wit(s) and (dutch)courage, where, thanks to the delights of alcohol, nothing is quite what it appears and where the wrong decision could cost Travis and Dave their lives.

If you like a good romp as much as you love a good yarn, Beer Goggles should be your tipple of choice.

Enjoy responsibly!

A Comedy Murder Mystery Thriller - a tour de force!!
It's quite an achievement to get all that in one novel but the author has done it brilliantly.
Dave and Travis are two very likeable best mates from Yorkshire who set off on the simple task of picking up some golf clubs.
Things don't go plan and through a series of events manage to get invited to a costume party in a fabulous mansion, where they witness a murder. Or do they? Was it just the Beer Goggles?
Starting half-way through the events with Dave and Travis locked-up in a police cell, the story is told in alternating chapters with the events leading up their current predicament gradually unfolding.
The story is packed with gags, groans and laugh-out-loud humour. The characterisations are excellent. There's a manic-depressive detective with a singular hatred of traffic wardens and suicidal tendencies greater than those he has to save, a deaf asylum inmate, a prostitute questioning her career choice, an archetypal arch-villain and a host of others.
With twists and turns all the way, the climactic finish has you hooked, I couldn't put the book down!
Highly recommended!!

Beer Goggles

This British comedy thriller is a delight. From the outset,I just loved the razor sharp, witty dialogue. The two central characters are very well drawn and totally believable. There are many hilarious one liners, as the two young men find themselves thrown into a surreal situation, where nothing is what it seems.

If I have to offer any criticism, I do so reluctantly, as this is such a wonderfully original piece of writing. I would perhaps suggest that some of the chapters could be rearranged, rather than having so many flashbacks, which for me are just a little bit confusing. I don't like to be critical of another writer, especially one who shows so much promise. Comedy writing of this standard is a rare talent, and I hope Sean Flynn achieves the success he richly deserves. I look forward to his next book.

As a comedy lover, and a difficult one to please at that, this book tickled all my funny bones!
The comedy banter between the main two characters is exceptionally well written. Fast paced and witty sparring between Travis and Dave leaves you wanting more from the two unlikely lads from Yorkshire.

A uniquely structured story, tracing back drunken steps and becoming embroiled in a police investigation with a moody police inspector with a grudge against Traffic Wardens. The comedy duo end up in situations which will make you cringe, roll your eyes, laugh-out-loud, panic and genuinely feel empathy for them.

There is clever detailing all the way through this book which pulls you into the story and keeps you reading. The peripheral characters add depth, humour and context, with a hint of love interest too.

I would be excited to read more about these two loveable Yorkshiremen and their comedy adventures, I hope the author has more in store for us!

The book starts out as a comedy fest of one-liners and funny episodes that will make readers laugh out loud. But Travis’s and Dave’s drunken romp takes a serious turn when they think they have witnessed a murder and try to bring the murderer to justice. The book remains funny, but the tone changes slightly, raising it above a mere comedy number to a genuinely interesting story. The structure of the narrative, which alternates between two points of view, before and after the alleged crime, ensures that readers constantly know more than the main characters do – or they think they know; beer goggles may affect their perception of the events too.

Travis and Dave are likeable fellows and the reader genuinely wants to know what happens to them, the narrative flows effortlessly and the mystery remains unsolved until the very end. All in all, a very enjoyable read that is suitable for everyone.

Travis and Dave are best friends and after Travis convinces Dave to go on a road trip to Blackpool with him to pick up some golf clubs all hell breaks loose. Travis is very shy around the girls and his only way of really talking to people is with humour. They witness an accident and decide to help out and end up getting invited to a party. After witnessing a murder they have to try and convince the police that it was a real murder. After playing detectives can they unveil the truth?

I really enjoyed this book and loved that it had humour throughout. I couldn't wait to get to the end to find out what happened but on the other hand i didn't want the book to end as i was enjoying it so much. Definitely 5 stars in my book.

This book is a very funny look at a couple of British blokes who don't mind laughing at themselves. They embark on an innocent day trip which gets more complicated as their day evolves. I loved the way the author gives you tiny pieces of information or characters which all get tied together nearer the end. Dave and Travis find themselves embroiled in a murder case when all they set out to do was pick up a set of golf clubs. The comedy of errors that follows is true British humour dosed with some strong language which may offend a few readers, but fits with the style of the book. This book was going to be a 4 star, but by the end I'd fallen in love with the characters and I'm going to give it 5 stars.

A right riveting read!

A fab story with lots of twists and turns. I really enjoyed this book. Most if the characters were very plausible.
