Parson's Cove Cozy Mystery #3

Calamity @ the Carwash

Rate this book
A marital spat at a carwash turns deadly––and Mabel Wickles, Parson’s Cove’s top amateur sleuth, isn’t buying the local police’s claim that the victim’s wife smashed him over the head with a brick. But when the woman confesses to the murder, Mabel decides to investigate the crime herself––along with help from her best friend Flori, her cat Sammy, and a busload of senior citizens from the local retirement home. However, Mabel is soon to discover that there’s more calamity in store for her than just a spritzing at the carwash.

I so enjoyed my foray into the cozy genre with Deception by Design by Sharon Mierke that I had to move on to book 2, Calamity by the Carwash from Amazon.com (aka Calamity @ the Carwash, book 3)
The amateur sleuth, Mabel Wickles, may be a tough broad, but endearingly so. In these crazy times, it can be therapeutic to settle into a community like Parson's Cove with Mabel, her friend Flori, Sheriff Smee, and Charlie. Charm abounds, which can melt away a good measure of stress, and the author delivers just the right amount of lightness for her storytelling to refresh. The mystery is a good one. Many will be surprised. But most of all, this series by Sharon Mierke provides an excellent escape. One does begin to crave the oft mentioned cinnamon buns and muffins. Readers will be happy to learn that the author kindly provides the recipes at the end.
I look forward to book 3, Cold Case Conundrum.

Sammy the sniffer cat leads the way

Awesome. Okay these are so out there that they're brilliant. The plots all revolve around a small community and one nosy senior who hasn't met a mystery that she can leave alone. Her BFF is an emotional mess who panics at anything and everything. This book is about the murder that takes place at the back of the car wash. Is it the wife who seems to think that she killed her husband or is the solution more bizarre. Throw in a retirement home, a sniffer cat, a dead dog, an attack on a woman, journeys to the city and one bereaved owner. Can she and the sheriff clear up what happened? Why is the cat so obsessed with shoes? Who is telling lies? Why won't her new neighbour invite her in?
Love the characters although I must admit her teary BFF would drive me insane. Plus I wonder what is going to happen between her and the Captain. Do I detect a small attraction there?

The car wash in Parson's Cove is apparently not just for washing cars anymore. It's a place for crime, murder and mayhem! Longtime resident and amateur super sleuth Mabel Wickles, her best friend Flori Flanders, and her cat Sammy are on the case when a local couple's spat turns to murder or it least it looks that way. Will they find out who really hit Bernie over the head with that brick and why another resident's dog was killed with the same weapon or will calamity rule the day? Yours truly enjoyed the ride and wouldn't hesitate dropping by the town of Parson's Cove to meet the quirky and mischievous residents. Once again Sharon Rose's story of this small-town sparkles with wit and wisdom. Never a dull moment when Mabel Wickles is involved!
