Preservation #2

Reservation

Rate this book
A sequel to the Amazon bestselling romance, Preservation, told from Ryan’s point of view.

Old Habits Die Hard.

Ryan Campbell is not only leaving his title of Professor behind to move on to bigger and better things at Simon and Warden Publishing, he’s also become Seattle’s rising literary star. Sitting on the overwhelming cusp of newfound fame, he learns soon enough that being popular has its downside.

Attracted to the buzz surrounding his new career, former lovers begin to creep back into his life, and potential ones emerge with enticing advances. While he works to juggle reserved, yet stressful, wedding plans with Kate and his new public image, he has enough to manage without worrying about Carter and Dean—Kate’s loveable albeit eccentric friends—and their latest shenanigans.

Surrounded by a lifestyle that includes temptation at every turn, Ryan finds himself immersed in a world full of scandal and lies, where his oldest weaknesses thrive and his ghosts return to haunt him. Questioning whether his life with Kate is his best path, he must discover if he’s still capable of being the man he aspired to be when she first became his, or if happily ever after is only an illusion.

During the high of the magical indie author era that swept the nation in 2012, Rachael Wade wrote over a dozen romance and fantasy novels about broken characters with tattered hearts. She has since then retired this pen name, so you won't find her on the socials anymore, but she still welcomes rights inquiries and messages from readers via Goodreads. Today she writes horror and suspense under a different name, though romance subplots still make cameo appearances in all of her stories.

I've been trying to do it right
I've been living a lonely life
I've been sleeping here instead
I've been sleeping in my bed...

I belong with you
You belong with me
You're my sweetheart ~ Ho Hey by The Lumineers

If there’s anyone in the world who deserves a happy ending, it’s two broken people who taught each other to love.

First off, a HUGE and MASSIVE thank you to Rachael for giving me the opportunity to beta read this. I loved Preservation and I couldn’t wait to continue Kate and Ryan’s story. What made this book even extra awesome is that it’s told completely in Ryan’s POV. I’m such a sucker for these types of stories because as a woman, I’m curious to know what makes a man tick, especially for someone as damaged as Ryan. Getting into Ryan’s head was an interesting experience. I felt so much more sympathetic for him.

Every moan, muscle clench, and ragged breath told me she was mine, and I hers. I continued to punish her with ruthless strokes, filling her ear with hot breath. “You belong to me,” I demanded “Next time someone touches you, remember you’re my sunrise. Remember this,” I hammered her with one fierce strike, jolting her backward on the counter.

Damn, Ryan! Holy fucking hotness! Ryan is hotter than ever and deeply in love with Kate. Changes are happening all around them. Ryan is now a published author, with his book in serious talk for a movie deal. His celebrity status is skyrocketing fast. While all this is happening, his fiancé, Kate, is thousands of miles away, working. They are trying their hardest to make this long distance relationship work, but man, it’s not easy.

Now that Ryan is in the celebrity limelight, his notorious past is creeping out of the woodwork; it’s slowly coming back to haunt him. He needs his Kate to keep him grounded, but he’s left to deal with it alone. Ryan wants nothing more than to announce to the world that he’s engaged and happy, but his publicist has other plans. The risk of scandal is always nipping at Ryan’s heels. However, what concerns him most is how Kate will react to what she reads in the tabloids.

“I do trust you, Ryan. But it takes effort. It’s not without pain.” ~ Kate

We all know Kate has her trust issues and it has taken her forever to get to where she is today, especially with former-playboy Ryan. To me, Ryan did nothing wrong in this story. No. Wait. There was this one thing, that pissed me off and made me cringe, but I forgave him because he did come to his senses right away. However, since this was told in Ryan’s POV, we knew immediately he never wanted to intentionally hurt Kate; that’s the last thing he ever wanted to do. Will their relationship survive? Will Kate ever fully trust Ryan?

“Nothing is worth what I have with you. Will you please give me a chance to prove that to you?” ~ Ryan

Reading this through Ryan’s eyes was fantastic. His struggle to balance his career, while maintaining a long distance relationship with Kate was frustrating and heartbreaking at times. It was a tough pill to swallow, but those times when he and Kate were together more than made up for it. Speaking of Kate, I only have one thing to say to you potential readers: Be patient with her. Her tendency to overreact was the only drawback to the story. I know she has had trust issues in the past, but you would think getting engaged to a man such as Ryan would’ve resolved most of those issues. She was definitely worthy of a few bitch-slaps ;)

This story was such a great addition to the Preservation series, but after I was finished, it was a bit of a bittersweet moment for me. I will miss Kate and Ryan tremendously, but I am HIGHLY looking forward to Carter and Whitney’s story in Declaration. This is definitely another winner from this fabulous author.

Review from Way Too Hot Books

No, Reservation is not companion novel to the first book - that little annoying habit authors have: to tell the story from his POV. It the end you have basically same book with few extra scenes, but nothing new. Second book in Preservation series is exactly that - sequel.

We continue to follow lives of Ryan and Kate, but this time narrator is Ryan. And he is good narrator - I even loved him more in this role than Kate. Rachael Wade managed to pull you into the male perspective. He is bastard, self-centric and arrogant, no matter how sometimes his new found love makes him more mellow.

Story & Characters. I have to say that I instantly thought that plot looked "familiar". He is not Mr. Nobody anymore, there are publicists and mangers who want to sell certain image to the public and girlfriend that nobody should find out about. Yes, Reckless by S.C. Stephens and just like that book, Reservation is full of drama. If you are fan of that type of stories, you will enjoy this book very much. Ryan is drama queen worthy of Olivia and company from Tarryn Fisher's novels. Honestly, there were so many things that bothered me and I do not know how Kate could get over all of his issues. But don't be fooled - that girl is no ray of sunshine herself. I liked Carter and I'm really curious about his book. We will talk about third book - Declaration - tomorrow and also, you will get opportunity to win all three books. Do not miss it!

Reservation is the sequel to Preservation where we first met Kate and Ryan. I read Preservation nearly a year ago but I hadn’t forgotten these two characters. I remembered their emotional beginnings and them being two scarred and damaged souls. Both are aspiring Authors; a Teacher and a student with each their own emotional baggage. And yeah…I remembered Ryan; I don’t think anyone would forget this gorgeous tattooed alpha male who has just the right dose of vulnerability and a huge heart as well.

Due to this being the sequel, I am hesitant to say too much as I do not want to give any spoilers; rather I recommend you pick up Preservation then move onto this one. This series has everything we look for in a good story. I loved it. Book #1 was emotional, frustrating, hot and addictive and book #2 managed to surpass it for me in the emotional stakes. I am not sure what it is about reading this story in Ryan’s POV but I can tell you if it hadn’t been, the effect on my heart would be nowhere near as strong and my feelings would have been of an entirely different nature when it came to the crux of the story. His voice has such an impact and my heart hurt one minute following by a racing pulse the next.

Seriously, the pace and the obstacles in Kate & Ryan’s story just plays with the reader, you are on a ride where you can see the pitfalls you know what possibly could or may just be coming. You scream at your kindle for Ryan to stop and think. You scream at Kate for her to just listen and believe. You want to hurt the instigators and the facilitators with something hard and basically tell them in a polite way to just go do one. But the reader has no voice…the reader watches it play out with a racing heart and feels the pain and the confusion. (Oh and enjoys the yummy factor because yeah..Ryan he is just…wow!)

Ryan needs control. He feels lost without it, though the control he needs now is very different to the control he craved in his past. A past that has damaged him and comes back to haunt him in the most dire and consequential way in this story. He receives an opportunity that looks great on paper and in the bank but threatens to uproot any foundation he has achieved. The anger, fear, lack of control, feeling helpless and his strong need to protect Kate culminating into one immense emotional and heart-breaking climax. Ryan loves with passion and is fiercely protective. He loves to a fault yet carries so much guilt and anger, his focus is on making up for the past rather than living in the present…paying attention to what is happening right now. What he has. He knows what he stands to lose though but how does one man prevent the inevitable when everything and everyone work against him? Waiting for him to fail…

Then we have our Kate. She has been ‘knocked down’ and hurt. Her past leaving scars that are carried unhealed into her future culminating into a severe trust issue. Being let down by not only the people that should care but the ones who themselves have an inability to reconcile their own feelings ultimately placing Kate in situations outside of her control. As this was Ryan’s story to tell I wanted to yell in frustration at Kate several times, needing to remind myself that if I was her, with her issues would I not question and react like her? However, ultimately my heart hurt for Ryan and he had my tears.

We get to catch up with Carter and Dean, Emma & Jackson and I cannot wait to read Carter’s story next in Declaration. His journey I am so sure will be another emotional ride!

My nerves are fried. To a crisp. Deep-fried...but healthy fried :)

Yes. This book was a test in patience and self-control. I was either biting my nails or pulling my hair! It felt like I knew the end of the world was coming and no one would listen to me.

But, aside from all that stress that had turned my tresses white...I really, really liked this!! It was fast-paced and always kept you guessing. Just when I thought a situation would explode, it didn't and vice versa.

It was in Ryan's POV and I LOVED that!! He is passionate, thoughtful, kind and alpha all the way baby! I felt so bad for him for most of the book because he was trying so desperately to rid himself of his past and move forward with Kate, but the dead don't stay dead and it was painful to watch.

He was out of control and this fact resonates with him throughout the book. And despite the lessons he had to endure to fully understand that things are always out of your control, he finally did and when he let go of that baggage and resigned to the fact that variables are always in play, he blossomed.

God, Ryan! If your life is going in a direction you don't want it to, bail! Tough lesson but worth the effort of having Kate in the end. She was gone most of the book since accepting a tutoring position in St. Lucia, but she suffered immensely as well.

Being far away and a slave to the rumour mill affected her more than she thought and I was actually surprised she held out for as long as she did.
The only thing I didn't like about her was her annoying insistence of always thinking she was right. Ryan would tell her he didn't like something or someone and her stubbornness always got in the way of good sense. Let the man love and protect you woman! It doesn't mean you're weak or useless!

After all the shit they endured, and all the crap they suffered, fate intervened once again. And despite very taxing life lessons and sobering truths, Ryan and Kate saw the light. And it was bright and blinding!

Two damaged souls finding redemption in love. BEAUTIFUL. Great book and an even better epilogue! I really enjoyed this series:)

Where do I start? Way to kick a man when he's down, Rach! My poor Ryan! I just wanted to climb into the book and give him a hug. He angers me and makes me love him at the same time. Now I know how Kate feels :-). Reservation was a whirlwind of emotions and I couldn't help but feel every single one of them with the characters. I felt like Ryan was living Murphy's law...what can go wrong, will. I knew that Ryan's past history with women wasn't ideal but I was not expecting that! I'm not spoiling anything...just saying. Did I mention this book is told in Ryan's POV? Oh man....that man oozes sex. This book was everything and more. I didn't know how it would stack up to Preservation and I have a legitimate fear of sequels. I avoid them like the plague. The sexiness from Preservation was there times 2. I admit that I did procrastinate a bit while reading this. I would have devoured it in 2 days but I didn't want it to end. I hope this isn't the last time we'll hear from Kate and Ryan.

Even worse than the first one, thank god it was free. The pathetic attempts of the "hero" to rationalize his cowardly behavior ("I was afraid!" "I was angry!) in the first novel made him even more unlikable. His absolutely confusing belief that he would earn her love by being awesome sack was ridiculous.
As for the heroine, if she is so freaking dumb to forgive and trust this lying douchbag because he's good in bed than she deserves him.

Also appalling was her cowardly refusal to testify against the guys who tried to rape her. She says she thought they had probably done it many times to others in the past, and if she believes that she's gotta know they'll do it again to some other poor woman. Maybe she changes her mind later but I'll never know I stopped reading at 25%.

This duo of cravenly lovers will no doubt carry on to ruin each other's and many other people's lives along their merry way.

I'm rounding up to 3 from 2.5 stars because I like Rachael Wade and I liked the first book. I can barely type this review because my head is spinning from this book. The whole "have you seen the papers?" and miscommunication stuff just dominated this book and it was so distracting that it made me dizzy. I barely made it through the last 20% and just skimmed pages. I rarely do that. Ryan and Kate fought too hard in the first book and overcame so much. These two brilliant writers are too talented and deserving to end up with a sequel like this, I'm sad about it actually. I will, however, buy book 3 about Carter. I'm not quite ready to give up on Wade as an author, she made some awesome characters. I just feel let down because this book could have been so much more I think.

After completing the first book in this series, I decided to give this one a shot. I'm sad I paid even .99 cents for 200+ pages of a whiny dude who then cheats on his fiance when she's having a tough time dealing with their current relationship status. Then the dumb broad proceeds to take him back like nothing happened. Maybe I'm bitter and cynical, but cheating is a no no and can't be forgiven. Sorry. Nope. Not gonna happen. So yeah, while the first book in the series was so-so-okay not terrible but not great, either...this one was not okay and kinda terrible for my taste. I was considering moving on to the third, just to read Carter's story, but I think I'm going to pass on it after this mess.

As we all know 'Preservation' was in Kate's point of view which I loved, but I'm glad that Rachael decided to switch it up a bit and write 'Reservation' in Ryan's point of view, because honestly it was truly more entertaining to be inside the mind of a man, well okay maybe NOT all men are as entertaining as Ryan but I loved his side of the story none the less. I loved being inside his head, "Dear God, the woman had a banging body." Ryan is just the same if not more head over heels in love with his woman than ever, "Every time I think of the mistakes I've made you come along and remind me there's another day. That I have another chance." He's still possessive, "Sounds to me like she's a woman on a mission." I tightened my grip around her waist, pulling her close to my side." Let me rephrase he is VERY possessive of his woman, "Listen to me good, Kate Parker I never and I mean never want to hear you use the words 'Will' and 'on his knees' in the same sentence again." Both Kate and Ryan had a lot to prove to not only themselves but one another, which kept the story interesting. The things Ryan was thrown into weren't average situations and all Kate could do was have faith and trust in her man. There were some parts where I yelled and screamed at Ryan to get his crap together (that's character love for ya) and I'm ready for Carter's story.

I loved this continuation of Ryan & Kate's story. It was yay...and then noooo...and then yay...and then noooo WTF! Poor Ryan & Kate, trying their best, loving their best under the circumstances...but then the world interferes and did it! I was on the edge at one point literally frozen. Not wanting to read any further to shatter my illusion or desire for a HEA..

Great read..definitely recommended

Sometimes I like to read books together according to a specific theme and the past couples ones have been about teacher/student relationships. I knew I already had Reservation by Rachael Wade waiting to be read so after a quick re-read of the first book I was finally continuing on with this dramatic series.

I fell in love with Ryan Campbell the first time he opened his mouth in Preservation. After losing his fiancee and publishing deal in the same day, he became the epitome of an arrogant playboy with a huge ego. Not til meeting and getting together with Kate Parker did Ryan realize that everything in life happened for a reason and he was able to make a turn for the better in not only a professional manner but in his love life as well.

Fast forward a few months and Ryan is on top of the world. His debut novel is on the brink of hitting shelves and already there is a movie deal in the works. He and Kate are also planning their wedding and looking at homes to move into together. Sadly all good things don't last when Ryan starts getting hounded by paparazzi and bitter ex hookups start spilling the beans on his less than stellar past. It was just heartbreaking for Ryan, he couldn't catch a break to save his life and having Kate still on the other side of the world didn't help matters one bit.

I love that Reservation was strictly from Ryan's POV. I always wondered what when through his head and note my surprise how deep and intense his thoughts were. He definitely seemed to be wanting to do the right thing and it saddened me that less people believed in him each time a new rumor popped up. I did wish Ryan would have done more when it came to how his writing career image was being formed but I'm guessing after losing out once he didn't want to waste this second chance. For a storyline to be so thought out I felt the ending was a bit rushed but besides that I absolutely loved reading Reservation it was fantastic.

I absolutely LOVE *in my best Disney sing-songy voice*
reading in the Hero's POV!!! To be inside a guy's mind? Really!
What woman wouldn't want that opportunity?
With RESERVATION, we get just that! But this is not just great for the guys POV...
We get a continuation of the lives of Kate and Ryan! *sigh*
~4 can-I-get-a-yeah-for-guys-POV STARS!~

This is book #2 of 3 of the Preservation Series. Reservation has an HEA and it can be read as a stand-alone. Although, it is a direct continuation of Preservation. There is betrayal and, technically, no cheating.

I was overly thrilled when I got a chance to read this book! A follow-up to a book I loved! I knew that it was written from Ryan's POV and I was over the moon!! I love nothing more than dissecting the minds of our Hero's! The blurb is relentless! It mentions Ryan and Kate's wedding, Carter and Dean, and sounds like we are diving off into the deep end of Ryan's past. This book is NOT Preservation but in a different POV as some series' are offering. (Even though I adore those, too!!) It's a continuation of their lives from Preservation. And it didn't disappoint!! ***Please read my review for Preservation above for character descriptions and personality traits.

Ryan is still Ryan - but he's changed. Sort of! Ryan likes control in every aspect of his life. He's relented a bit where Kate is concerned, however, it's still difficult to let that go. He fears losing control and at times he feels helpless. I saw him as a man who'd been broken and then put back together in a way that was completely healing. He loves Kate and she him. What they have is real and tangible to him in a way he thought he would never feel. It's all much different from his past. The book begins by telling his side of things from Preservation. The lowlights mostly. I found that really helpful to hear why he'd thought some of the d*@khead moves he made. Not that he was the only one - but we read Kate's side of things as they were happening in the first book and weren't privy to some of the things he mentions here. Most of the book Kate and Ryan are away from one another. Different countries. The space between them isn't a cause for concern at first. They miss each other, sure. But they are steadfast on the foundation of their relationship and are getting past the issues from Preservation. With Ryan's new career as a famous writer - that distance seems to multiply like baby bunnies. As I was reading this, I was so nervous about how the relationship between them would hold up. I knew in my guy that their love is unwavering, yet so many things try to shred it. Ryan becomes immersed in this world of the public eye and all he wants is to be a writer. That alone puts major strain on Ryan and Kate. He doesn't want the nonsense that comes with being famous. Ryan begins to feel pulled in every direction BUT the one he wants to go. He just wants to be. Be himself without worrying about an image. Be with Kate. Be a writer. Kate is asking for his help from afar with Carter. The media continues hound tirelessly. It's all coming to a head and you can feel his frustration and you know something will give sooner or later.

"I don't like it. Being in the spotlight, I mean. It's not at all what I pictured when I signed on with Bob. I'm a writer, not an actor."

The emotions that I went through while reading this book...all over the place. I was happy - elated even, disappointed, angry, frustrated, then happy again. I felt like I'd taken a roller coaster ride. The tag-line of the synopsis of this book rings true throughout. "Old Habits Die Hard". It was difficult at times to watch Ryan in SO MANY confrontations, or situations that he shouldn't have been in. Not with a fiancé. And the reason for my hands over my eyes as I read...not all the situations are brought on by Ryan himself. It was as if the world was raining down bad luck on him. The distance between Ryan and Kate make these circumstances even more strenuous. I was always a fan of Ryan - he was dealt a sh#tty hand regarding his first fiancé. That fact alone made me worry for him. There was a point I felt relieved Kate was so far away. Ryan and Kate...they happened really fast. Now they were engaged. She was it for him, yet there was still so much he needed to work on to be who Kate really needed. The time apart gave him the opportunity to do that.

"It was clear to me then, what this new path of mine required. What it was all about. It was more than a road to redemption, more than righting my wrongs with Kate. It was about burning and building bridges."

Just because Ryan and Kate are apart, does not mean we don't tip the scale in regards to the scorching factor. They find 'creative' ways to show their passion and love for one another. It's HAWT!! And when they do get weekends together, that fire burns even hotter! Yet, there's this underlying feeling I got throughout the book. I knew things would get interesting...I had no idea they would go there! It's tough to watch one of your favorite characters being pushed and pulled in directions he didn't want to go. Painful to watch him struggle with himself as he fought to be a better him. For himself and for her. There were highs were amazing and the lows were heart-wrenching. There were definitely tears. I really felt for him. I hoped for him. I wished for him. I was just plain sad for him. He had made his bed, and reading this from his experiences, I knew that. However, when Kate makes him lay in it - my heart is torn in two. They have a once-in-a-lifetime, forever kind of love. What was happening?

" You were confident from day one, from the beginning, before all this crazy sh#t started happening. You were the one to assure me that I'd make it through this new career and all that came with it - that we'd make it through this together."

Ryan and Kate make mistakes. But don't we all. Ryan will stop at nothing to make amends for hurting Kate. I was literally up all night waiting for the resolution of this crazy train I was on with them. I was ripped to shreds with Kate and Ryan's stories. But being put back together and healing as I finished this book - well, that was something I didn't expect. Just because you know a book has an HEA doesn't mean you automatically know how things end. When an author gives you such incredible characters and lets you go on this journey with them, it's like nothing else in the world.

Rachael Wade takes us on one helluva ride! I enjoyed every second, savored every moment and when it was all over I wanted to read it all over again!

As I fell utterly in love with the first book of this series, Preservation, I knew I needed to read this book as soon as possible. Thankfully, Rachael sent me a review copy and I was able to get to it after meeting other deadlines for blog tours.
Let me tell you, this book was incredible! It was just as good as the first book. Usually, I find that in reading sequels, they some how can't manage to live up to how much I loved the first book. But this time, I can happily tell you, that wasn't the case.

If you've read my review of Preservation, you'll know I was a snotty, teary eyed mess come the end of the book. Reservation was no different. I cried constantly for the last 15%, but those tears began to fall harder at certain points {find out where for yourself}

If I'm honest, everything that Rachael Wade writes seems to make me cry. She just has the knack of affecting me in ways that many an author cannot. I feel like the characters aren't just fictional and in the pages of a book, but instead, they're real people. That's how much of a connection I have to them.

It was absolutely brilliant to read this book from Ryan's POV. When I read Preservation, I always wondered what was in his head and when Rachael said on her blog that there would be a book from Ryan, I was overjoyed. I needed to know what made Ryan Campbell tick - this was just the opportunity to find out.

When I read the blurb for this book, I was thinking "Oh dear God no. Ryan don't you dare mess it up. Don't mess around on Kate, else I'll have to jump into the book and thump you myself."
The reality is, both Ryan and Kate have suffered trauma in the past in the form of their exes. They are both so much in love with each other, yet it feels like a bomb waiting to go off. They're scared to be together because of their past, but they're in it for keeps and just want the past to disappear. It's a real shame for them when the past comes to bite Ryan in the butt and threatens to knock him off the rails, spiralling into despair.

Ryan has a publishing contract with Simon and Warden, something he has wanted for a long time, since the days of Jamie his ex. She cheated on Ryan and made it impossible for him to go into a career as an author because he couldn't keep his own head together. Jamie was the trigger that set him off sleeping with girls from the University where he was a teacher. He was the 'use them and toss them aside' kind of guy.
But now he's cleaned up his act, ever since Kate Parker walked into his classroom that fateful day. He and Kate have been an item for a while now and she understands all about his past. she tells him that the past is exactly where all that sort of stuff belongs.
It wasn't so long ago though that he nearly lost Kate. She took a teaching position overseas so that she could have some head-space. But Ryan went to her and they worked things out. So now, he's home alone, waiting for her to come home to him.
He's still teaching at the University until the end of the semester, then his career as an author should really take off. Especially due to the fact that the movie rights have been optioned so not only will he have a book out, but soon there will be a movie too. That's the dream right? A book and movie deal? Yeah, you might think so, but sometimes things don't work out the way you think they're meant to.
Ryan's career puts him in the spotlight. More so than he ever thought or hoped it would. People from his past come out of the woodwork to talk to the press about his attitude towards women back at the University. There are things that Ryan would rather keep under wraps, but as things so often do, they have a way of working their way to the surface.

Kate is still overseas and it's hard on Ryan not having her around. It puts an untold strain on their relationship, even if they don't see it yet.

Ryan is thrown into the spotlight, much to his chagrin. He has to go to parties and schmooze the people in the publishing world. The only thing is, Danny, his publicist, is either incapable of doing his job properly or he just doesn't care what it means for Ryan and Kate when he does certain things. {things I'll leave to you to discover}

Ryan and Kate are getting married, taking the plunge and moving in together instead of living in separate apartments. Ryan has a book and a movie coming out. Kate has a book of her own coming out. Things couldn't get better than that, right? Well you need to read Reservation for yourself to find out.

I adored this book and I think Rachael Wade is one amazing author. She writes fluidly and flawlessly. She has a habit of making her characters delicious and irresistible. This book was no exception to that rule. In fact it probably proves the rule.
If there's one thing Rachael knows how to do, it's keep her readers hooked and guessing what will happen next. From one moment to the next, I couldn't tell where she was taking this story. There was lots of drama, tears and tantrums. I had to put the book down a couple of times because I was upset and because I wanted to prolong the story. I was reading it far too quickly and all too soon it was over.

For people who know me, you know I loved Fifty Shades of Grey. But those of you who know me better will know that I think Preservation and Reservation beat the Fifty trilogy hands down. Rachael is a truly amazing author and if I could aspire to be an author, it would be Rachael. I want to write like she does, to touch readers in the way she does. I want there to be a buzz about my books in the way there is about hers.

Page Turner!

I love how strong and independent woman #Kate is... how she struggle with her circumstances and fight the demon on her past is very inspiring... that despite all she have been through she never give up on hope and love.
And Ryan... the delectable Ryan... my heart felt for him... my heart bleeds when he was heart broken and after all what he have been through... he deserve to be happy.
This story left me with warm, happiness and inspiration. Love is really worth fighting for.
A must read!

Reservation by Rachael Wade is book two in the Preservation series.  This is the sequel to Kate and Ryan's love story.  It's always difficult to review a sequel without giving too much away.  I hope that you will pick up Preservation and give it a go.  In Preservation, we're introduced to Kate, a college student with an angst ridden childhood.  Her adult life isn't that great either.  She's surrounded herself with male friends, Carter and Dean.  She had no time for romance, when it took everything she had just to stay afloat.  Ryan is Kate's professor in a writing class.  He's not shy to angst himself, having been cheated on by his fiance, which caused him to go on this downward spiral in a sea of women, namely his students.  So yea there's a lot of turmoil in the first book and the ending holy moly!!

But now here we are and Reservation is told in Ryan's pov.  Something I always appreciate by the way, if it's done right.  This is most definitely done right.  In fact I'm not sure if the tone of the story would have resonated with me if the pov switched back and forth or even if it was entirely done in Kate's voice.  No this had to be Ryan and Ryan alone.  I think the impact was harder, the story more emotional, and it allowed us to sympathize with Ryan.

Reservation is one big ball of angst ridden mess.  Kate is still in St. Lucia teaching.  Ryan is back in Seattle, teaching and kicking off the promotion of his new book.  A book deal he stole out from under Kate.  When I think on it, it's actually amazing these two even found their way back to each other.  Then with all the added junk that happens in this story, well I'm not sure any relationship in real life would survive.  In fact, I thought to myself several times that this was it for them.  There was no coming back after some of the stuff that goes on.

Poor Ryan.

Ryan only wants to make things right between himself and Kate.  He knows he has a lot of making up to do and he's determined to move forward.  He wants nothing more than to put the past behind them.  But that requires something from himself that he's not too good at going without.  CONTROL!  Everything about Ryan screams control.  Yes he's alpha but not in a caveman sort of way.  Yes he's all sexy, tatted up, womanizing, professor bad boy, but he doesn't reek of testosterone.  I think of him more as a quiet alpha.  He struggles with is lack of control throughout the majority of Reservation.  This story though, or the culmination of this story in my opinion, is about Ryan learning how to handle his need to control everything and allowing himself to forgive even himself when he can't.

Reservation isn't just about Ryan though.  It's also in a very small way, about Carter, Kate's best friend.  If you remember correctly from book one, Carter is in love with Kate.  Kate however, does not love Carter in the same way.  Ryan and Kate's relationship was a very hard pill for him to swallow and we get to see glimpses of that in this book.  It's actually a really good set up for his book, Declaration.

Kate and Ryan's story is a rocky one for sure.  They learn many valuable lessons in Reservation.  Long distance relationships are very hard.  Communication is very important.  Love truly does conquer all.

*Thank you to Xpresso Book Tours for providing me with a copy of this book as part of the Declaration Blog Tour*

This book had my heart constantly aching during its roller coaster journey. Rachael Wade seems to keep improving as the series goes on. I enjoyed this book even more than the first instalment in the series. The author once again kept the pace of this book fast, leaving the reader desperate to finish. The second novel in this series contrasted perfectly with the first novel as it was in Ryan’s point of view rather than Kate’s. As the reader this gave me an insight into Ryan’s character and helped me understand him more. Rachael Wade has done a brilliant job of continuing on with this series plot without letting her readers get bored.

Ryan’s dreams are finally coming true but he is experiencing them without the love of his life by his side. Although this should be the best time of his life Ryan has to make a few compromises along the way and slowly bit by bit his life is thrown into turmoil. These two people may be perfect for each other but can they cope with the distance and the strain it is putting on their relationship. This series continues to get better the more it goes on. Reservation starts right where the first book leaves off and I would suggest you read the series in order for each book to make sense. Rachael Wade is a brilliant author who throughout the course of the book portrays raw emotions which rip the readers heart out and leaves them breathless. I enjoyed this book even more than the first one and had only stupid minor issues which meant I couldn’t give this book an even higher rating. The author allows her readers to emotionally connect with her characters as during the book we get to see the characters when they are together and apart. As well as creating a fantastic plot Rachael Wade has also developed phenomenal characters who bring out strong emotions from within the reader.

During the course of the book the reader develops a strong love/hate relationship with the characters of this novel. The characters leave the reader even more frustrated than they were in the first instalment and at times you just want to bang their heads together. Ryan makes some very stupid decisions during this novel and not only breaks Kate’s heart but also the readers as they become extremely connected to these characters. You find yourself both loving and hating Ryan at the same time. Although Ryan is a conflicting character by the end of the book the reader understands him better and the reasons for his actions. This is due to the fact this second book is told from his perspective which allowed the reader to emotionally connect with him. Ryan is an incredibly honest character and his straight to the point view of the world is refreshing for the reader. As the reader I thoroughly enjoyed seeing Ryan and Kate’s relationship develop and their love grow over the course of this second book. This novel is an emotional rollercoaster which has the reader hooked from the very beginning.

Overall if you don’t mind the slightly backwards and forwards plot then you will love this book. Rachael Wade is a fantastic author and I can’t wait to see what she writes next. I would definitely recommend anyone who likes a romance book with a bit of turmoil read this book, but make sure to read the first one as well.

Let me start off by saying I have been a Rachael Wade fan for a long time. I love how she writes her characters and breathes so much life into them. She has this way of making her characters so three-dimensional and strong that you cannot help fall madly in love with her stories. This particular story I have been waiting for a while.

About a year ago I had found a book called Preservation through amazon, I really liked the cover it peaked my interest, and so I began reading. When I first opened the book I was thrilled that the POV was in the males. It`s very rare where you find a book in it`s intirety written in the males point on view in the romance genre. Then after a few chapters that POV changed to that of Kate`s the main character. I won`t lie I was a little disappointed, but as I kept reading that disappointment was so very short-lived, because I firmly believe that book was oh so much about Kate and her journey. But I still wanted more, more, more So when the lovely Rachael Wade announced she would be writing a book from Ryan`s POV I partially jumped and screamed all over the place. Months later I received this ARC in my inbox from Rachael Wade and low and behold it was Reservation, Ryan’s POV, a book that I have been anticipating for months.

So let’s talk about Ryan. Ryan is a sweet soul who lost his way and decided to indulge in some pleasures of the flesh. I mean he can’t help it, he is oh so beautiful…exhibit A

In Preservation we find out that Ryan has been burned by women he loves in the past and now lives a life full of casual sex and meaningless commitments. This all changed when he meets Kate, a women with guts, courage, soul and conviction. Reservation begins in St Lucia where Ryan and Kate have made up and are now engaged to be married. But as Ryan leaves the Island and embarks on a new phase of his life, his committed relationship and new career change all his old skeletons begin to emerge out of the closet and boy oh boy does Ryan have a lot of skeletons.

I have read all of Rachael Wade’s contemporary romance novels, and I am just going to say that the HEAT in Reservation was insane. The sex scene’s even though they were no were near the graphic content I am used to reading where incredibly hot and steamy. The Sexy time in the book is unbelievable. But this is what I appreciated about all the sex scenes in the book, none of it, not a one was there just because. Each sensual sexy scene was there to push on the romance and developed the plot. So for this Ms. Wade I thank you. I do not thank Ms. Wade for the few cold showers I had to take because Ryan was so incredibly hot, and man yeah HOT.

At the heart of this series there is the beauty of friendship, the need for hope, and ultimately humanities need for love and acceptance. Thank you Ms. Wade for portraying characters who are funny, inspiring and most of all human

Holy mother of wow! I really am totally into this series and boy did this one get chaotic! I was on edge the entire way through! Between missing Kate and dodging exes plus trying to balance the rising fame Ryan has alot on his plate! Add to that wedding plans, writing and making time for sanity plus finishing up his teaching for the remainder of the semester well, that can be one hell of a crazy ride!

I was happy, swooning, mad and downright angry and wanted to smack the bejeezus out of some of these characters including Ry at one point!
(Even though it was technically not his fault but whatever!)

I absolutely love reading Ryan's POV and so much happens in this book, I swear. Roller coaster ride indeed!

Kate even ticked me off this time! But seriously I was invested in this read and I have to say I am LOVING the series! I really need to read Love and Relativity! *sigh*

This story was about a struggle of two people coming together under the most strenuous circumstances. To say the least but man oh man did it reel me in. It was so infuriating so many times but still kept me in the NEED to read on mode.

Love is hard enough when the two parties are treading new territory and have their work cut out for them with each others carefully constructed walls. Self preservation and jealousy ride such a fine line it's crazy. But this book shows such a raw side to love and how hard it can be.

Anyways enough of my ranting! LOL! I really am in love with this series and these characters and the stories too. More like borderline addicted and super happy I have Declaration waiting in the wings to read!

Do I recommend this book? Umm, heck yeah! Oh did I mention my out loud "no"s and my crying? No? Well yeah, that happened!

If you like NA with fiery romance and alot of depth, this is so the read for you, seriously, it doesn't disappoint!

Let's talk covers first because I brought book one's cover to the spot light because I felt the author was pretty much being coy with the whole student leaves teacher an apple. A similar thing most kids did coming up in the day. Now with book 2 cover I question my inner thoughts, well not the apple, I still think that was pic play. But the cover in Preservation (Preservation, #1) has a female on the cover and it's written from Kate's POV and this one Reservation (Preservation, #2) has a delicious male on its cover and it's written from Ryan's POV. So with this new revelation I deduce that the coy message with the covers is the perspective the book is written in. With this in mind Wade goes one step further by not reveling Kate or Ryan faces. This allows the reader to paint a true vision of what his or her Kate and Ryan look like. My only disappointment with the cover art on this book is the fact that no ink is present though we should be able to see the ravens.
I was excited to dive into this installment, so much that I rushed my review for Preservation (Preservation. #1) so I could devour Reservation as soon as possible. I was blown away by the connection to the real world Wade managed to convey throughout the book. I'm not sure who was more a wreck at some points Ryan or myself. I found myself experiencing a whorl wind of varying emotions keeping me locked and turning pages teetering on the edge laughing one minute, busting the water works the next. At pivotal moment I just wanted to smack some common sense into Ryan. It was truly a imperfect journey of love and how in life throws you unexpected curve ball and you have to figure out how to deal. And learning that some choices have an undesired effect.
I can't say there was much I didn't like about Ryan and Kate's continued journey. With all the twist and turns I was firmly planted on the edge of my seat riding out the emotional roller coaster right by Ryan side in a state of wonder. Will they or won't they? I can say I for the most part I was satisfied with the ending. However the epilogue left me questioning what happened with Carter and how he is truly dealing. With that in mind and what else will unfold in Ryan and Kate' relationship I be waiting for next book in the series to make its début.
I would recommend to anyone who enjoy realistic contemporary romance. Real life situations. Some sexual explicit content for mature readers only.

this picks up where preservation left off. Ryan and Kate are together and Ryan's life is about to change. Kate is half way across the world and harder to get ahold of especially when he needs her the most. Kate though still has her admirers and still is a wee bit unscrupulous in my opinion. so yes she still grates on my last nerve. Poor Ryan so many changes in his world and he is trying so hard to roll with them but they do become too much. i love how he includes his friends along the way though. It's great to see Dean and Carter in this book but also new ones of Sam and Jess.

So while Kate is off tutoring, Ryan is dealing with the aftermath of his book becoming the it book. He's being thrust in a spotlight he doesn't want, his past is haunting him, people are coming out of the woodwork with false trysts and he misses Kate. Dealing with all this while trying to reassure Kate of his love has to be exhausting. to top it all off his publicist isn't really on his side. He is a douche. I mean wanting to keep Ryan's involvement with Kate secret and the date he set him up with come on man. Through all this Ryan stays true and faithful. Kate i wonder about I know she says she is but still her actions with Will don't mesh.

the pressures do build up especially when the media begin to bring Kate's past and Will into the picture. One picture sent out to hurt Ryan that isn't what it looks like sends things spiraling. What gets me is ryan with all the hoopla about Kate and Will gave the benefit of the doubt even after Will answered the phone and said Kate was in his bed but does Kate noooo...she tells Ryan it is finito. So Ryan loses it and almost makes a mistake. I say almost because it catches himself. In this moment he reconnects with his family and even confesses to Kate. Does she listen nooo of course not but what really gets my goat is she is hypocritical here. How? She turns to Carter and they kiss...She did what Ryan did after she trampled his heart but yet she can't forgive or meet Ryan halfway. Ryan goes spiraling big time and gives everything up.

What ryan does though in the process is find himself. go Ryan. i still believe Ryan deserves better but there is a HEA. Carter deserves more too.
A book on love getting thrown bumps and winning out in the end. One of discovery and patience showing that when we lose everything we hold dear is when we find out who we are. A wonderful read.

I was emotional spent by the time I finished this book. I thought the first book was an emotional roller coaster, but this book trumped that tenfold.

I was so excited that this book was told from Ryan's POV. Even though I got to know him in Preservation, getting to see his relationship with Kate from his side of things was fantastic. It allowed me, as a reader, to see his more sensitive side and being privy to his most inner thoughts and feelings really gave me the chance to understand this poor broken man. Although shocking truths came to light, I still found it hard to blame Ryan for everything that happened. That is until the emotional wrecking ball ploughed through his life and he stepped back into his past with so much ease it almost made me sick. I wanted to shake some sense into him, to make him see that it wasn't the way to go, but it was too late. I was just so thankful that he didn't go overboard.

This story was filled with so much tension. Between Ryan's paranoia over Will, and the circus that became his life, and eventually Kate's, it seemed like there was no end to the craziness that threatened to destroy this gorgeous couple. And, OMG! - they were on fire. The passion that ignited between them every time they were together was off the charts. Their love was filled with so much hurt and anger it, and that only increased the sexual chemistry between them.

When the tumultuous relationship finally hit boiling point, I freaked out. It couldn't have been over. These two amazing people HAD to be together. They'd fought with each other, for each other and for their love, and their romance turned into something epic that would be remembered for all time. They were just too stubborn to work things out, as are most people these days, and that is why this story and its characters were so relatable. Wade created characters that were real. Even with the crazy celebrity lifestyle, they weren't perfect, they kept making mistakes and they kept doing their damnedest to make up for their wrongs.

This book was another exceptional example of the talent that is Rachael Wade. The writing was crisp, it drew me in and I lost myself in the story. Sheer brilliance.

Ryan's story...how utterly smoking hot, heartbreaking and endearing - all rolled up in one! Ryan has a past he can't hide from now with his new celebrity status. It's wreaking havoc on his relationship with Kate and testing both of their strength in trust which has been a challenge since the beginning. In Preservation, we saw through Kate's eyes and got to delve into the depths of her mind but in Reservation, we get to submerge into the tumultuous consciousness of Ryan. Brilliant!

"This isn't a story about my track record for hurting Kate or a list of all the wrongs I can't undo. It's a love story about how Kate's love saved me. How her ability to penetrate the darkness surrounding me helped to illuminate the good I wasn't even sure I possessed. How old habits really do die hard, and when love and fear go head-to-head, love always wins when you let it. Every...Damn...Time"

Ryan was given a chance to redeem himself from the mess he made and he wasn't about to let anything or anyone take Kate away from him again. He had everything he ever wanted; the girl, a book deal and a movie contract. Kate is halfway around the world, fulfilling her obligation she jumped into on a whim when Ryan tore her world apart and soon the distance begins to wear and old insecurities encroach. Fate seems to be fighting him at every turn. My heart bled for this man...yes he could be absolutely infuriating, but the raw emotion from his POV makes you see him in a new light.

"The world and all of its distractions shriveled up, cracked, and flitted away into nothingness. The need for control, the bondage of my past, and any reservation I'd ever had drifted and dissipated, healed by the woman beneath me and the brave love she willingly laid at the altar - a love that stuck around, even when it had no reason to, other than it's blind, hopeful faith. It penetrated my darkness and exposed it for what it really was - fear, in all its self-destructive glory."

Another plus in this series is the strong cast of secondary characters. They are well developed and just as important to the plot as Kate and Ryan. I felt just as connected with Dean and Carter and the shenanigans they got in to. Another great solid by Rachael!

Just like in Preservation (Book 1), my feelings about Reservation are conflicted.Parts of this book were seriously painful. Not in a "this is bad" way, or an "I'm not enjoying this" way. But in an "for the love of everything, please just talk to each other" way. Obviously, I have a lot of feelings, even if I'm not quite sure what they are.

Kate and Ryan are back on track and engaged, but still operating long-distance since the end of the last book. Obviously, this will inevitably be difficult. Coupled with Ryan's burgeoning fame and the media fallout that corresponds and their inability to talk it out with each other (a problem that persists from the early stages of their relationship), it edges toward downright disastrous. That's where the pain comes from. Something would happen that could be eased or fixed by honest, open communication and still nothing.I wanted to rage over that more than once.

I did, however, like the fact that we got into Ryan's head. While there were times I wanted to pummel him, I felt like I gained a better understanding of his character and came to like him more. And then the end was kind of a shit-show in Ryan's case, but I digress.

Kate was actually more of a prop for a lot of the book since she was in St. Lucia and only popped up in a significant way a couple of times. I would've liked a little more of her because I still think there's more to learn about her, but I also understand that this is truly Ryan's book. even if it rubbed me the wrong way a little that Ryan's development was such a huge part of Kate's book, but hers wasn't of his.

Overall, Reservation was an enjoyable look into the head of our male lead as the relationship from book 1 progresses from the honeymoon to the real. Just...be prepared for a lot of feelings (not all good) at the end.

Ok, so at first I was completely cringing about the idea of this book. The end of Preservation is about Ryan and when he and Kate first met and his thinking while he was talking to her. That's great and all but I certainly didn't want to read another book which is exactly the same as the first with a different pov. Nope, this gal doesn't have time for that!

But, good news! I was totally wrong and although this IS from Ryan's perspective, it actually starts from where Preservation left off. Ok, there was a bit of a reminder at the beginning which I think Rachael could have pulled out a little, it was redundant but I had JUST read Preservation so I'm guessing if that were not the case I would have enjoyed the little reminder. Fortunately it wasn't even that much.

Then the plot for this one really starts. These two... I should do a vlog instead but I think it would be too redundant seeing me shake my head over and over again. Ryan and Kate just can't get a break! Sure they both have some serious issues to work through but geezus people, learn to work WITH the person you love... can we? Maybe?

The angsty part, which is quite a bit of this book had me worried for both of them. And funnily enough I can't side with either of them. They are both doing things that the other doesn't like but do they back off, hell no. Their independence is too important to them, really that was more Kate though. And although Ryan has a long list full of crap he is doing wrong I think the things Kate does winds up putting him right into this horrible black hole. The poor guy just can't get out even though he desperately wants to!

I read this in a very, very short time. All the drama going back and forth kept me up late into the night. The ending was great and I cannot wait to pick up book three!

Ho hey

Oh Ryan, there were times in this book I wanted to smack sense into you and times I wanted to hug you silly. Things aren't smooth sailing after how book one ended with the proposal. There are still many issues to address, things need to be done, careers on the start. Life can get hectic fast, these two learn firsthand that your past plays a role in the present.

While Kate and Ryan have grown closer, distance can be a factor when there are things you need to do say and explain in person. I have try to say they upped the steamy and hot moments when these two are together. Somethings are better in action in their case.

Dean and Carter as usual are the friends that play a part in this, they balance out the intense and sometimes angst filled relationship between the two with lighter fun. Loyal friends are definitely what Kate needed here, it takes a lot of understanding and being open minded to take things that Ryan will throw her way. Mind you I didn't expect that part, I get he had a past, loved his women and sex but wow I had no clue about his interest in menage and other things.

Despite it all it's obvious these two feel and love each other so much and completely that they just needed to work on it together. Not apart, not surrounded by all the celebrity and fame, not meddling people. Just two people who love each other, hurt each other and have skeletons in their past to get past it. I enjoyed the fun real life jabs at the whole fame author thing Rachel Wade was poking at, I get that whole thing. Seeing Jackson and Emma was so cute I missed those two. All in all, I liked Ryan and Kate and I'm glad they finally found their HEA. I can't wait for Carter's story.

4+ angst filled stars

Told from Ryan's POV, this book makes up for some of what I felt was missing in Preservation - the story line comes together and gaps are filled in. We see some of the motivation behind Ryan's all consuming need for Kate. Kate was his salvation - she was going to save him from himself. Well, almost.

The writing was solid - maybe a bit stronger than in Preservation and the story line well thought out and executed. Where I didn't feel connected to Ryan in book 1 and where I had a hard time really wanting him to get the girl, Reservation flushed out his character and provided some of the much needed back story.

The story picks up from where we left Kate and Ryan, newly engaged yet separated by Kate's new job (ok, she ran away from Ryan - and rightly so - he really knows how to be deplorable at times). I know at times Ryan wasn't supposed to be lovable and you could see his mistakes before he made them, he was still very much someone you wanted to root for. Even when he goes off the very deep-end and makes a life altering mistake, his actions almost made sense - you get his character and his contradictory character "flaw"- and by the time you meet his parents, you truly want his redemption.

I thought it might be one of those stories where you really seriously consider throwing the book (Kindle form be damned) at the wall , I was sure there was no way out of the mess he made. Thanks to Ms Wade for making the HEA happen after all!

I have no idea really what to expect from Carters story Declaration - I do know I will miss Kate and Ryan...

INTENSE!!!!
Rachael Wade never fails to keep her readers captivated by her story lines. I love the detail she gives in each and everyone of her books, its as if the story is playing out in front of you, so vividly.

I cried a lot through this Reservation, there was a lot of heart ache, it was so nice to see Ryan's POV. You don't get a man's POV in stories very often but it was just EPIC!! I really felt for most of the characters in the story especially, Ryan, Carter and Kate. I wanted to reach through my kindle and strangle Danny and Will, I hated them so much LOL.

In Reservation we get to see many sides of Ryan we dont get to see in Preservation. We got to see him angry, hurt, scared and mostly in love with the one he wants more than anything no matter the cost.

With Ryan's book going big, he has paparazzi following him every where, digging up his past and the one thing that pisses him off the most is attacking Kate. With everything going on is worse fear is losing Kate because of all this madness.

As they are planning their future, people from Ryan's past are showing up, some good and some not so good. When one of his secrets come out he knows his relationship with Kate is at stake.

As always Rachael never disappoints, her work is amazing. I cant wait to read Declaration, I just know it will be just as amazing as the rest of her work if not more so.

This is the amazing continuation of the love story between Ryan and Kate. Can true love conquer all or can the world interfere and lead them down opposite paths?

This was such an amazing story told from Ryan's point of view. I love being able to see story from a man's point of view. I freaking love Ryan.

Ryan has a new book deal with celebrity status coming at him full strength. As Ryan tries to take on the challenges with being in the public eye it causes lots of issues for himself and for Kate. Tabloids come out and lies are written but is that enough for the two to overcome?

With Kate being across the world and situations occur can the two make it through anything or will the distance and the issues continue to destroy them? Can the love they share beat out all of the insecurities or will they continue to fester and take over?

I love seeing Ryan and how he has changed from his playboy ways to a loving devoted man. Unfortunately not all men feel the same way.

Dean and Carter are both an active role in this book which I absolutely love. The duo are back at it with their British ways and can only bring a smile to your face, along with the laughs!

This was a great story of how sometimes love isn't enough but trust and the willingness to do whatever you can for the one you love is. Absolutely a great story and definitely worth reading!!!
