An outlawed treasure-hunter flees north from the Pontific of Zanzuria’s wrath and falls afoul of bounty-hunters and predatorial beasts. In a struggle for survival, he comes face to face with an unpleasant secret hidden deep in the mysterious forest of Mazgul: a menace lain hidden for many years. I was lucky enough to win a copy of Thornkeep in a Librarything Giveaway.

To be brutally honest, the story isn't really my cup of tea. Or seems as I'm not best fond of tea, it perhaps was.

The story was very well written and free from most common errors I seem to find in books. I enjoyed that it was well structured and had a very wide and extensive vocabulary. However, I was less fond of the 'fantastical' element and the made-up words; I'm not adverse to fantasy, but I found it a little hard to grasp what was going on, and the words that were unrecognisable did not help this, for me.

I would say that this short story might be a little like Marmite - likely you will love or hate it. I've never tried Marmite, so I'm not sure how I feel about that, but Thornkeep left me totally apathetic. I would be curious to read this author's work on a different subject matter, as I really liked the writing style, but I don't think I'll be re-reading Thornkeep again in a hurry.
