The story of a miracle... Pasquale Buzzelli, a structural engineer with Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, was in his office on the 64th floor of the North Tower as the September 11th attacks began. He spoke to his pregnant wife on the telephone before he began his evacuation after the South Tower fell. Sensing something ominous, Pasquale crouched down and huddled into a corner of the stairwell as the 110-story tower came crashing down around him. He survived the tower collapse and woke up in the open air hours later on The Pile, a stack of debris seven stories high. The firemen who rescued Pasquale shared his remarkable story of survival with the media, as did others who cared for him that day. His story became a myth, an urban legend, and an enigma that gave rise to much speculation. Here he tells his story in captivating detail of falling and "surfing' the collapse of the North Tower.
I have known of the Buzzelli family for years because of Louise’s volunteering to visit my granddaughter in the hospital with art supplies several years ago. Although I was teaching in a nearby school and had several students lose parents or other relatives that horrible day, I had no knowledge of any 9/11 survivors until someone posted a small article about Pascuale on FB. I am grateful for this inspirational book and for strong, caring people like the Buzzelli family.
This was an interesting story but was poorly written. Much of the book was about the after effects of having survived the attack on the Twin Towers on 9/11. That part just was not as interesting. While I applaud these people for their efforts to raise money and to survive after such a tragedy, the book was not that compelling and was kind of boring in places. It's a great story but just didn't translate well into a book.
Overall it was a good book. A great deal of the book focused on the after effects and how the author and his family got through the experience. I enjoyed the book, it was a bit dense in some areas just due to the sheer number of characters introduced.
Heart warming story of the single survivor when the tower fell. I cannot imagine all they went thru but this story tells you how it was and is being a survivor.
Hope resonates throughout this heartbreaking story of a man and his family. From the first moments of the most tragic day in America to the lasting effects of survival, we hear first-hand how Pasquale and Louise but the pieces back together again. Beautifully done!
