This book was a breath of fresh air! I'm an avid reader and sometimes it feels like I'm reading the same story over and over again. That was NOT the case with this book! This book is well written and I instantly loved the characters within a few pages. Being a mom myself I really enjoyed the mother/son relationship between Ava and Tyler. The Morningstar Diaries is a must read book for anyone!

Morningstar Diaries- Ava by Lydia Drace

A little about the Story: This Love story is about Lucifer and his beloved Ava. They have fought to be joined and now with their son about to turn 16 and inherit powers of his own, they will need to fight even more to keep their family together and alive.

Lena's Opinion:

Cons: At first I didn't know what to make of this story. It was a little to informative for my taste, which caused it to be a little slow in the first few chapters.

Pros: I love how the Author brought Lucifer to life. He is a very loving and attentive husband and father. He is not at all how the world sees him and his love for God, is felt throughout the story. This story actually made complete sense to me and I liked it a lot. The love and family unity that these Angels have pulled me into their story and it was like watching it all happen in front of me. I am looking forward to reading Lucifer's story.

If you like Paranormal romance, this is definitely one to add to Your TBR

I Rate this Story a 4 Star ☆☆☆☆

I loved the opening scene. Being from NC and having visited Asheville once I could imagine back there as tourist. Seeing the Biltmore for the first time. But anyway the book started off to a great, then the middle got a bit bumpy (read it and you’ll know what I’m talking about), but that ending…oh that ending had me tearing up, cheering, and tearing up some more. I only have two questions for you Miss Lydia when will the next one be released and how did you get me sucked into your characters so completely?

I wasn’t sure exactly what I was expecting but to be blown away by all the characters (except the bad guys) well that wasn’t it. The storyline was fresh and superb but it was the characters who stole the show. I mean basically you have your average family who just happens to be the King, Queen, & Prince of Hell with angels for family members & a giant hell hound for the family pet. Typical right, right? I loved how you gave us details but not many just enough to let our imaginations start filling in the details but it’s the characters who drew me in. Let me explain:

Ava/Mom/Queen of Hell- Who has seen her husband pretty sporadically for the last 12 years because she wanted to raise her son as normal as possible, even if she isn’t normal at all. But she’s a good mom. At times Ava seemed a little stubborn for the sake of being stubborn. I mean at one point it seemed like the choice she made she only thought of how it would effect her not everyone else she was connected to but in the end everything worked out as well can be expected.

Lucifer/Luce/Dracian/King of Hell/Dad- Can I marry him because wow. He is a wonderful husband and loving father even though decisions made it impossible for him to know his son for 12 years. He would sacrifice almost anything for his family. And even though it takes a little bit to wrapped your mind around a new twist on an old ideology.

Tyler/Son/Prince of Hell- He’s very mature for a 16-year old boy. He’s very much like is father and although we didn’t get into a lot about Tyler’s inner workings I could tell that he has inner-strength beyond compare. I foresee great things from him.

Jenny- I love how she’s a trooper. I hope she gets her HEA with but who knows we shall see. I also like how she didn’t hold a grudge against Ava and how she supported Ava even when she didn’t agree with her choices. She’s the definition of a true best friend.

Uriel/Raphael/Michael/Isadore/Azriel – Are the kooky aunt & uncles you love but everyone else fears. I love how (even though some of them are in Heaven and some are in Hell) you get the strong sense of family. If one were to look at them in a philosophical sense it could be said that they represent that “no matter how different you are or where you stand; family matters”.

Abbadon – is a true prick and I want someone to punch him in the face. Especially what he did near the ending. I would do it myself if he were real.

One last thing, this was subtle I didn’t catch it the first couple of times they were describing Hell but I must say Lydia you are a genius. She took the different aspects of hell from across different cultures and combined them into one beautifully sculpted & place. If you haven’t contemplated reading this then trust me when I say just do it and you’ll be very glad you did.

This isn't your average Heaven and Hell, God vs the Devil kind of book. For me, this was the first time I've heard the name Morningstar in association with Lucifer. I'm not religious by any means, and this book isn't "preach-y" in the least. I absolutely loved this book. To start with, we first meet Ava and her soon to be sixteen year old son.

The book jumps right into the good stuff. Ava is not your normal human woman. She is in fact half angel, after meeting and falling in love with Lucifer. They joined their souls and in doing so, created an unknown bond on several different levels. She also hides her true identity, even from her son, Tyler. And upon turning 16, he will come into his own powers. Ava must find a way to tell Tyler, and soon.

"Just how do you tell your sixteen-year-old, 'Oh, by the way, Son, I'm half Angel and so are you." Maybe I should tell him while he's distracted with a video game.

"Ahem, Tyler, I have been keeping a secret from you. I'm half angel which is why I haven't aged a day past 26, and so are you. You're going to develop some pretty kick-ass powers on your birthday." Yeah, I'll start off with the powers. He'll think that's cool.

Tyler's dad is Lucifer, but not in the biblical sense as he's portrayed. His last name used to be

The Morningstar, his title in Heaven, which means 'the bearer of light.' He was and is in fact His most trusted and faithful angel. In this story, Lucifer was not the one that actually tried to overthrow God, it was one of his fellow brothers, who thought he should be the rightful leader of Hell. Lucifer stepped in to take the position because of how ruthless his brother is because of God's love for humans.

Learning of his true father and finally getting to know him doesn't even begin to phase Tyler. He moves past it all with ease. For the past 12 or so years, he has led a normal life, thanks to Ava. He manages to hold his own, especially when meeting his new found aunts and uncles. Because what would a book with Heaven & Hell be, without the archangels Gabriel, Uriel, Azriel, and Micheal.

They are the Seraphim Angels that stayed behind when Lucifer formed hell. There is also the Cyrillian Angels, which are Seraphim, but now perform their service in the underworld. The underworld isn't like you would expect, there is kind of a city, called Dis, and Castle Avalon, aptly named after Ava, complete with a conservatory that has been kept up despite her absence.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, it was well written, fast paced, and very intriguing. As I mentioned, I have not heard mention of Morningstar before, so this was refreshingly unique to me, in all ways. It was not your usual heaven and hell scenario, God vs the Devil. Lucifer was in fact portrayed as still an angel, just the leader of Hell and tempting humans faith in God. I sped right through this book as well as book 2 and will be anxiously awaiting book 3.

Truly, a very good story. Enjoyed it so much, that I really wanted to continue reading but there were no more pages! I will just have to begin book two.

The only thing keeping me from giving this book a five-star rating is the need for an editor. There are errors in capitalization, missing words, extra words, tense issues, and some misspellings. Usually, I would put a book down and walk away because of its grammatical issues, but I was quite taken with the story.

I for one have to say, that this story has whisked me away completely. I was not entirely sure what to expect when I read the synopsis, and more so was completely taken off guard, when I began reading, and a very colorful world came to light. The beginning was certainly as normal as anything could be, aside from a few declarations from Ava, that the regular pace of life wasn't quite what as it seemed. From there, I found myself pulled deep into an elaborate and inspiring world, while the faux front was quickly stripped away. The visual descriptions brought up vivid imagery that appeared as if I were really there viewing everything with my own two eyes. Most of all, I loved the characters. Every character has a distinct and unique personality, that becomes fully developed throughout the length of the book. I found myself sympathizing, laughing, and worrying along side them as they went through their trials. They were very "human" if you'll pardon the pun. I absolutely could not put this book down until 2am when I finished the story.

What I think could be worked on, would be the rough start at the very beginning. The sentences were a little bit choppy, leading me to have to go back and re-read parts when a sentence ended abruptly. This is remedied later on and the sentences flow much much smoother. Beginnings are always tough. Some people over-work them into something so complicated as to be entirely different from the rest book itself. Others just start speaking naturally as if the reader has always been there. This is the part that hooks the reader to keep going, so extra care should always be taken. There are some grammatical errors, as Jen has mentioned, and also my reason for giving 4 instead of 5 stars.

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed reading this story. I can tell that you know where you are heading with this plot, and I am looking forward to reading book 2 :)

Ava begins in Asheville, NC with Ava, a beauty shop owner and mother of a teenage son Tyler. Ava is half angel unbeknownst to her son, and is married to Lucifer himself! Tyler is about to turn 16, and that is when Ava and Lucifer decide to tell Tyler who he and they really are, so the pressure is on! Days before Tyler's birthday, Abaddon, King of Demons, is awoken unexpectedly, and is determined to finish the war he started with Lucifer to take over the kingdom of Hell!

This story is not at all what I had expected. In this story of good vs. evil, Lucifer is actually shown as God's right hand angel, and serves only him for the good of the souls that end up in hell. Ava was a mere mortal that Lucifer fell in love with, and ultimately married and had a child with, with God's consent. I fell in love with Lucifer in this book! He is a man of honor, integrity, and full of love for God, his wife and child. The weight that Lucifer carries on his shoulders is immeasurable, yet he still manages to maintain his compassion. Ava's character was less desirable for me simply because she was stubborn. Although she committed to Lucifer, it was conditional. Ava was unwilling to leave her human life to be with her husband at his side and serve as Queen of the Underworld. She earned the douche award from me. Tyler was a little too easily swayed about the truth when his parents revealed their secret to him. You expect defiance, a temper tantrum, something! The whole transition just seemed too easy for him.

I truly enjoyed the story but struggled with the delivery. Some of the writing took me out of the moment in the book, but overall I do think this is a good book. I am looking forward to reading the next book titled Lucifer because I am interested enough to learn how the fight between Lucifer and Abaddon ends. This is a Paranormal Suspense with PG-13 sexual content, but Rated R for violence.

*Note that I was gifted this book in return for an honest review*

Okay I have to say that right off the bat, from page one, I was thinking what have I got myself into. Had a hard time getting past my own feelings as this book has some creatures that are based on the Bible. Not being religious I hesitated then decided to just give it a chance. And I am very happy I did!.

This story follows Ava through a time in her life, and that of her young son Tyler, that blows apart the little world they have made for themselves. Ava is running a beauty studio named after her mother who has recently passed and who Ava misses so very much.

Tyler has NO idea what is about to happen to him when he reaches his 16th birthday. He has until now just been an ordinary kid and then comes to find he is of a Royal Family of a very different kind.

The stories moves fast and the characters are very well developed and represented and you find yourself drawn into the excitement of the adventure.

Lots of drama, action, love and caring in a book with a very different theme that ended up being a great read. Ready and waiting to go onto
the second book in the series.

If you want to read something totally different, in a very different paranormal type of genre grab this book, curl up and enjoy .

Four stars for a book that I've placed on my "must read" shelf.

Ava Morningstar owns a hair salon where she works with her best friend Jenny and lives in the apartment above with her son Tyler.
It seems to everyone that she is just a normal, ordinary woman. But Ava has a big secret, one she needs to break to her son before he turns 16 in a few weeks.... Both she and Tyler are half angels and after 12 years of absence Tyler will finally reunite with his father. But with this meeting comes a big decision, one that could change his life forever..

Abaddon, the King of the demons has been awakened from his dark prison and released onto the world causing mayhem and destruction.
Can Ava and Tyler, combined with the angels from heaven and hell defeat this great evil? Or will they crumble along with the rest of humanity?

Lydia Drace writes a brilliant page turner. This book will have the reader hanging on to their seats in this whirlwind ride of action, suspense and emotional turmoil.

This was very original, and very well written in the aspect of diversity and other concepts of what one would perceive of Heaven and Hell.

Ava is a supposedly single mother, owner of a hair salon with a son who is about to turn 16. All events are somewhat based upon her son turning 16, and the aweness of what he will discover and if her son Tyler will be able to acknowledge it all and forgive. Tyler believes his father abandoned him and his mother many years back and what comes up will be a shocker.

I can't really say to much because I think it would spoil the fun in all the discoveries. Suspense, Violence, Laughter, Loving.. are just a few things I got from this book

Its a good read for those under 17 as well.

Now THE only thing I was upset about is how your left with a cliffhanger..lol so we move to the next. ;)

I absolutely loved this book! Now I am only 23 and normally read YA books with characters in high school or college but u found that even though Ava is 34 Lydia made it where I was still able to relate to her. There is amazing detail in this book and the mother/son relationship is great.
Ava is a mom who works owns a salon with her best friend and raises her son Tyler as a "single" mother. Coming on Tyler's 16 birthday she has a bug secret to tell him that they are half angels and his father lucifer.
This book will really draw you in and is a must read!
I for one never thought I would have lucifer the devil as a "book boyfriend"lol. Great job Lydia! This book made my top favorites and I will be starting book 2!

Ava's story is enticing and intriguing. From page one, the tales Lydia has created from a reality we are already familiar with will captivate you. The devil himself stars in this book alongside the archangels and his family.
The battle of Heaven and Hell over Earth has continued, but not from who you have always thought. All at the same time, that Tyler has to face some hard truths in life and come into his own.
The characters Lydia has created and brought to life are amazing, and the scenery and imagery implants you into a spiritual realm. You will face Betrayal, Love, and a Mystery as the war is waged they are all faced with tough decisions to ensure the lives of those they love.

I was happy to read a book that was different from what I'm used to reading. I particularly enjoyed Ava as I felt I could really relate to her. The book was well written and fast paced, which I certainly appreciate as finding time to read with two small children is almost unheard of. I'm about halfway through Lucifer and enjoying it as well! Can't wait to see what happens :) thank you for sharing your stories with us, Ms. Drace!

This is not my usual type of read, so the fact that I enjoyed it so much was a surprise to me. The story was unique, the characters well-written and the cliff- hanger plot makes me want to read the next book. The author did a great job of making angels feel down to earth (pun intended).
