I really enjoy these books. Gulko provides the game analysis, tips, and techniques that one would expect of a strong and seasoned grandmaster. Sneed plays the foil and psychologist. He gamely attempts to answer Boris's prompts and asks his own insightful questions. The result is a good mix of concrete analysis, positional assessments, and psychology. Not only does Sneed suss out Gulko's thoughts at critical moments in each game, he analyzes his own cognitive strengths and weaknesses in a way that will resonate with average players. This volume, filled as it is with double-edged positions and tactical fireworks, is perfectly suited to the format. The series warrants repeated study. The variations are deep, but the text moves along at a brisk pace. Highly recommended for club players and strong amateurs
