This book initially seemed to me like it would be one of those annoying "diet trend" books. But it's not. Kimberly is definitely a health nut, and possibly a nutrition extremist, but her information is really helpful. I personally will probably not be getting weekly colonics or perform regular enemas on myself, but I learned a ton about how foods affect the body. Probably most useful to me was information about alkalinity and acidity.
When I say "nutrition extremist," I mean that she is obviously really healthy, but I would imagine it's hard to go out to eat or eat at other people's houses -- or even cook a meal with other people when you refuse all wheat and all dairy and all meat/fish/chicken/eggs, etc. I know lots of people are vegans, and that's great. I kind of wish I were one, but I have enough trouble just being super-busy and managing to eat relatively healthy foods. I will say that thanks to her, I am drinking Glowing Green Smoothies daily now.
This book is very interesting if you like nutrition/food books.

This is a basically a condensed version of her first book, but the information is still excellent. I liked how Snyder expands past the "food is fuel" philosophy, to the "different foods promotes different aspects of inner health and outer beauty." The recipes, however, are horrible. I mean, honest to god, they taste SO GROSS. I also hate it when someone tries to tell me some vegan, healthy AF version of food I love will taste like the real thing. It won't, goddamnit. I know a real brownie or slice of pizza when I taste one. I'm willing to say adios to unhealthy foods and try other options as a "new" option, not a replacement. Cuz mama knows a black bean burger isn't the real deal.

I tried a couple of the recipes in here and they are so good! The eggplant bake is a lasagna-lovers must! But even more than than, I appreciated her practical and meaningful nutrition tips. Although I’m not applying every element of Snyder’s Beauty Detox program to my life, this book has helped me make some basic good nutrition practices nearly daily habits. Some things that this book helped me incorporate is starting my day with lemon water and a probiotic, regularly making green smoothies, eating “fresh foods first,” finally helping me avoid most dairy without feeling like I’m missing out, and helping me understand digestive enzymes. Even more than the tips and recipes, I loved knowing the detailed (but not over-my-head technical) reasons why various foods were helpful not not. Shifting my mindset to think of foods as direct contributors (or inhibitors) to beauty, strength, and overall health was the key that made this book stand out from other nutrition books I’ve read.

This book feels like more of a reference guide than a cookbook. It is packed with information about all different kinds of foods, focusing on what to avoid (and why) and detailing the many known and not commonly known qualities of a myriad of foods. Different foods repair damaged cells, aid in digestion, increase blood flow, etc. Each food is sort glorified here...so, this is not a simple beauty book like many of the past. As ayou are reading the section on beautiful skin, for example, you are learning not only that the onion allows oxygen to flow more freely thereby aiding in circulation to provide glowing skin, but also how it eliminates free radicals and stimulates the sinuses and digestive tract. There is a lot of good information in this book, which emphasizes whole, (when-possible) organic vegetables and (regardless of which regimen path you choose) her glowing green smoothie. The material is presented well and this book offers sample menus and recipes.

On page one of this book the author reveals that she went global backpacking and on the the last page it states that this was a three-year solo journey ( wait...what?! I'd like to hear more about that!). The author is a "celebrity nutritionist." I'm very glad I didn't realize this prior to leaving the library because I would have certainly left the book there assuming it gimmicky. That would have been a mistake. This book is fantastic. 4.5

Yay!! I read her first book, and I wasn't too fond of it. I loved her health advice, but there was something about the organization of the book that didn't sit well with me; it was almost as if the information was too overwhelming to take in at one time. So when I found out that she was releasing a second book and that it would be a bit different from the first, I just knew that I had to get it. A lot of the information was the same, but it was done in a way that was far less overwhelming than her first book. I love that she included pictures of the recipes along with the simple instructions of creating them. This is EXACTLY what I was hoping for when I got her first book! The new recipes are fantastic, I can't wait to try some of them. This is a book that should be in every "health nut's" collection. I would read it again, and I would recommend it to anyone who is looking to start or improve upon their healthier lifestyle.

I have a degree in holistic nutrition so I expected this book to be more of the 'same' as far a nutrition books...I was happily taken by surprise! I loved, loved, this book! Kimberly has laid out all of her information in a clear, concise, easy to read format. Her book is not preachy (which I don't like), nor does she spend the whole book talking about how wonderful she is.

In the beginning of the book are the foods to be avoided, the middle the foods to consume, and the end recipes. The color pictures made the book all that much better. Lots of nutrition books have information but most don't have pictures with recipes which is a must for those of us who are good at visualization.

Overall, if you are an novice or expert, you will learn something from this book!

This book is very well-researched and chock-full of info. Unfortunately, you start to feel that if you don't go gluten-free, drink the authors smoothies every day, and follow the plan to the letter, you'll never be beautiful or healthy. Some of the plan is sound nutritionally and easy to incorporate into your life. Others are pretty restrictive and--at least in my case--would just about annihilate a social life. That said--I am following the parts of the plan that I can and have noted improved energy and better skin. Clearly she's on to something...

Kimberly Snyder does it again! Like the Beauty Detox, she clearly lays out the benefits of eating a low fat plant based diet, backs up her books with studies, and gives the reader great suggestions for meal plans and recipes. She also goes through a ton of vegetables and fruits and all the benefits they contain! Book is easy to read, clear and captivating. Highly recommend!

With health books I usually keep them on my radar for months or even a year and peak at them every so often until I feel I really want it and it is worth money and putting your trust (or at least optimism) in the author. I finally bought this one a few years ago after it had been out for a bit and I think it is a must-have for anyone interested in learning more about food and health!

What I like about this book:
-that it lists the "beauty foods" out and gives enough attention to each one and their benefits. There are recipes for smoothies, apps, meals etc. that are good but I really like the general info.
-easy to follow layout with lots of information but not overwhelming or boring
-INCLUDES FRUIT. There are so many anti-fruit diets out because of keeping sugar intake low. It's nice to pick this up and remind yourself why pineapple and blueberries are good!

This is a good book to read and then come back to once in awhile or before a trip to the market/grocery store.

Tons of good info, but she frequently directs you to her website for more resources and product recommends etc. that are nowhere to be found on her new website (only her own brand there now). That was a bit of a letdown.

Amazing book! I love books like this and Kimberly Synder has a very healthy approach to food. One of the few people in the detox movements I don't think encourages disordered eating. I loveee her.

I saw Drew Barrymore raving about this book on Instagram. I tried drinking warm lemon water every morning for about a week and it did give me energy. My skin looked really clear as well. I liked all the info about the health benefits of the 50 detox foods. The recipes were decent but they didn’t blow me away.

Fifty different foods are said to help transform your body and reveal a more beautiful you. Who doesn't want to be fitter and more beautiful?

In this fairly chunky self-help book the author, a clinical nutritionist who is said to be one of Hollywood’s top celebrity nutritionists and beauty experts, highlights these 50 beauty-boosting foods and gives nearly 90 recipes that incorporate them. The book's publicity material says that readers can "…stop wasting your money on fancy, expensive beauty products and get real results" - this review cannot comment on the veracity of the claims as what may work for one person might not be the same for another person.

Certainly balance in one's diet and the quality of ingredients can play a big part in health and appearance. The author's various principles push towards a raw vegetable-based approach and the elimination of dairy products. For many it might be a radical step too far. Some people might adopt a hybrid approach and adopt some of the ideas.

The book's text certainly features a lot of glowing, feel-good advocacy along with many portfolio-style pictures of a happy, smiling, healthy female who obviously has been following this route to the letter. To this reviewer, at least, the photography actually elicited more negative feelings towards the programme, things looked just too perfect, too stage-managed. It would be a little extreme to write this programme off as being more style over substance just because of the photography alone, but nonetheless many doubts, possibly irrationally, remain because of it. Featuring more "everyday" pictures of everyday people would have been a better choice. Subconsciously it would send a more powerful message too.

Reading through the various recommendations and proposals as to how you can change your life through the programme sounded convincing and not far fetched or unachievable. If it works for you and you can accommodate the necessary changes that are clearly explained then you might be on to a winner. However you need to knuckle down and really study matters to overcome any superficial initial reactions and scepticism that may ensue. If you have been trying various diets without success you will know how frustrating it is to see "beautiful people" telling you how you need to change things, that would be "so easy to do"… reality is often different.

It was interesting reading through the different beauty foods and learning what made the author choose them. Pumpkin seeds, for example, can help nourish the scalp as they are a rich source of essential fatty acids. They also provide a good source of protein, magnesium, calcium and other elements to help your body. You can throw them into a salad or even snack on them instead of peanuts. This reviewer could see how this sort of information could help even if you don't necessarily follow the full regime.

Making a review about this kind of book is an incredibly hard thing to do, in part as it requires subjectivity rather than just plain objectivity. As a reference resource it was an interesting read, compelling even. As a means for a dietary change it is probably not for this reviewer but it might work for you. Certainly it is, with exception to the aforementioned photography, less of a gimmicky, effects-ridden book than many in its genre, but it didn't just click for this reviewer as an entire way forward. But it has left a positive mark in any case. This could be one programme (and book) that you should consider if you feel you are able to adopt your diet in the way the author recommends.

Beauty detox foods is about putting good health habits into practice.

And knowing why each step is so important.

It has several levels for people with varying social situations and committments. For example, I intend on eating meat at least a couple times a month - and that's fine, there's a plan for that.

The recipes are easy to follow. Highly recommend the GGS and the Spiced Quinoa. Favorite salad: Kale.

Advice: try to make 2-3 recipes and get good at preparing them fast. Then ALWAYS have them on hand. If you want to have fun making a new recipe every week, that's fine - but having those 2-3 foods will make it easier to stick to a healthy plan using this book. For a list of recommended recipes, see above paragraph.

The only reason I didn't give it 5-stars is that it could have used more tips for preparing the dishes quickly. Sure a lot of it is common sense, but many people are not only starting veganism for the first time, they are also COOKING for the first time. Anything to reduce that learning curve helps.

If you don't have this book, get it.

I really liked this book. Obviously I didn't read it from start to finish each and every word but close enough to learn heaps of new facts and nutrition. While the diet is too strict for me I simply can't give up stuff like eggs and the occasional meat, I will be keeping this book on hand to refer to the superfoods. Oh and I will try her smoothie recipe as soon as I buy my first vitamix! (which will be soon :-) merry christmas to me!!) Also I really like Kimberly she seems really down to earth and passionate about what she does and not arrogant and full of herself. Kudos to her and great informative book.

I've flipped through this book around five times, not reading it consecutively but rather jumping to what looks interesting, so I thought it was finally time to put it on Goodreads.

It's an easy read, and there's not much new for someone who likes reading about nutrition. But she's gentle and non-judgmental, and the recipes are simple, which is how I roll. The first part of the book is the science and reasoning behind her diet (it's not based on woo-woo hippy philosophies, which is nice), the second part is a breakdown of 50 awesome foods, and the last part is some lovely recipes.

Kimberly and I share fairly similar nutritional philosophies - eat whole foods (fruits, veggies, legumes, grains, nuts, seeds) in their unprocessed forms, limit/eliminate oil, eat a fair amount of raw foods, and keep things easy.

Great book on how to better my diet. I especially liked the part of the book where she outlined specific foods and how they help oour bodies. I don't know that I will be permanently adopting all of this lifestyle but I will definitely be changing some things. Taking out some foods and adding some. In addition to outlining the foods and why you should or should not eat them she had recipes. Overall a great read and a great reminder to eat more fruits and veggies.

I think the book has the the right mixture of education, hands on practical information and recepices. If you read Kimberly´s first book there is no need to read this as well. But if you haven´t read any I prefer this book ( The beauty detox food)to the first book ( beauty solution), as it provides more details on what type of food will improve which health beauty issue ( dry skin, undereyecircles etc.

Kimberly is pretty extreme, but she had some great tips and the book was actually fun to read. I love anything having to do with natural health and beauty. I've been on a natural medicine, nutrition, and beauty kick lately. I'm not now, nor will I ever be, a vegan; however, her tips and info were still awesome and informative, and I respect that she chooses to live that way. Kimberly is definitely gorgeous!

I am a fan of Snyder's glowing green juice and smoothie and read her detox book. This one is a good resource of the 50 foods that are best for your body and ultimately according to Snyder, your looks. The Asparagus and Leek Soup (posted here: http://kahakaikitchen.blogspot.com/20...) was fabulous and I have quite a few other recipes tagged to make.
