I loved being back in the dark underbelly of L.A. where aspiring actresses are turning up dead and it’s up to the Shifters and Keepers of the city who are just tried to live as normal a life as possible to figure out why.
Our Elven Keeper in this one is attacked so things begin hitting real close to home.
The 3rd book is still hands down my favorite in this series (I’ve read totally our of order) and I’d have to say this is my least fave But was still really good. I appreciated the twist and the story was fine..just didn’t have me rereading chapters out of fascination and a desire to know every single detail by heart like the previous reads.

Thoroughly entertaining. This is book #2 of the Keeper series and it was just as much fun as book #1. Each book has been written by a different author and I thought this was a unique idea. This is the first book I have read by Ms. Kozak and I enjoyed her writing style. There was mystery, suspense and some nice romance between Declan and Sailor.

This was a light read that kept me engaged in the story line. I would like to read more from this author. I am looking forward to book #3!

The Keeper’s world is a pretty interesting one and Keeper of the Moon is book 2 in a three part series, I have not read the first one yet but I had no problems following the story line so looks like these can be “stand alones” but you most likely get a better understanding reading them all (I will have to go back to book one soon but have to much to read at the moment).

This story centers on Sailor a fairly new Elvin Keeper who ends up working with Declan Wainwright another Keeper who is a shifter . The story was okay, what I would call “light and fluffy” not very steamy but it is more about the mystery and murders instead of the romance. I find with the Nocturne line most of the stories are kinda hit or miss for me…I find I usually only like one or two of the stories in the series and not the others…this one was only okay for me…glad I read it but not going on the re-read shelf.

What I did like: Sailor's growth into a smart, dependable Keeper.
What I didn't: Once again, (just like the first book) the issues characters have with her age and inexperience, hold her back from getting needed information. Once, she has what's needed, the book picks up.
Good mystery. The romance was okay.
"In her three months on the job, she'd gotten several negative reactions to her youth and inexperience."
I don't plan on reading the next.

As strange as it may be, one of the biggest things that hits me about this book is the title. It seems incongruous with the content. Maybe it's stereotypical, but I would tend to associate this type of title with the Wolven, not the Elven (or even the Shapeshifters). The cover model being in the water definitely seems appropriate though. Regardless, this was a great book. It may be the first Harley Jane Kozac book I've read and I was definitely happy with the story I received. I thought the story was very well crafted and engaging. I wasn't sure what Sailor was going to be like once faced with her true test as Elven Keeper, but she handled it really well. It was a bit surprising, but in a very good way. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would be interested in reading another of Kozak's works in the future.

BOOK SYNOPSIS

In their new Keeper roles, these extraordinary women must balance the fate of the world with their desires... Lust. Elven Keeper Sailor Gryffald's body quivers with it, but is it a symptom of the deadly Scarlet Pathogen coursing through her bloodstream or the proximity of shifter Keeper Declan Wainwright?

Sailor and Declan have had an uneasy relationship ever since they met, and now things are about to get a lot more complicated. A killer is stalking Los Angeles, intentionally infecting Elven with the deadly virus, and now Sailor and Declan must work to keep the supernatural peace while bringing the murderer to justice. But, in doing so, these powerful denizens of the Otherworld find themselves straddling a fine line between lust...and love.

My Thoughts

Sailor Gryffald is unsure of her role as she has not prepared to take on the responsibility of Keeper for the Elven since her father seemed to have things well in hand and at his age was apparently not going to be retiring from the job anytime soon. Sailor's shock and dismay when she was suddenly thrust into taking on the mantle of Keeper, with all that it entailed, only served to heighten her naive outlook that things would remain the same without too much effort on her part.

Although Sailor Gryffald is new to her role as Keeper, she finds herself drawn into an investigation which pits her against a villain whose only agenda is to cause havoc amongst the Elven citizens of LA and as many deaths as possible before being stopped.

This tale is the next in the series focused on LA and it highlights what I personally think is the biggest strength of all the stories in the series and that is the fact that it's characters are not perfect, they are not all knowing, they are not all powerful and even though yes they do have certain advantages as part of the supernatural community that does not make their jobs or their lives a cakewalk.

Sailor has it especially hard because as a young actress her days of being carefree and following her whims are now over as she is roughly awakened when the reality of her situation becomes apparent as her own life is imperiled. In the race to solve the mystery of whom the killer is and to bring him or her to justice there is also a race against time to save Sailor from a horrific death that ensures she and Declan must work together.

The tension these two characters bring to the pages is sizzling, their respective abilities as keepers are awe inspiring and the way that Sailor manages to learn to embrace her duties as Keeper had me finally respecting her more than did at first.

There is nothing spectacularly clever going on but as a murder mystery/paranormal romance it has some fairly decent action scenes, it has interesting characters that the reader can enjoy watching interact with each other, it has an easy pace with good flow to the plot line that allows you to keep up with what happens in the moment and the villain is one that you may figure out sooner than Sailor and Declan but even if you do that will in no way curtail the audacity with which the person operates in plain view!

As a lover of all things supernatural this series has so far been perfectly balanced and easily enjoyed and look forward to the next book which finally lets us get to know Barrie better in her role as Keeper of the Shifters. Very tantalizing tale!

If I had guilty pleasures, this series would definitely be one of them! But since I don't (cause I'm really not ashamed of anything I read...), I'll characterize this series as one that provides me with hours of very pleasurable reading and one I most certainly intend on continuing.

Keeper of the Moon is the second book on this series which focus on three cousins who have inherited from their fathers the role of keepers of the supernatural species undercover in our society. This book focus on Sailor Gryffald, the Canyon elf keeper, which I already knew from the previous book. The story starts with Sailor being attacked by a supernatural creature (either a shapeshifter or a vampire) that infects her with a virus deadly only for elves. Sailor thus becomes the most recent victim of a serial killer that has already killed four female elves. Luckly, the fact that Sailor has human DNA as well as elven, means that the virus isn't deadly for her, although it does have some very interesting side effects... Was the attack on Sailor meant to kill her or was it just a warning? And can she discover the identity of the killer in time to stop him from killing again?

I admit I liked Sailor a lot more on this book, since in the previous she had come across as a little silly to me... I liked her romantic interest a lot, Declan Wainwright, one of the shapeshifters keeper, and I also liked their relationship, which evolves as we keep reading and is a very sweet one.

Although I was able to figure out soon who was behind the attacks, I still liked the story a lot. I'm liking more and more this alternate world and its characters. I found the scenes between Sailor and Declan to be slightly hotter than the ones between Rhiannon and Brodie on the previous book but I still would have liked more...

It had already happened on the previous book, but it was more noticeable this time because now they're both secondary characters: I had a hard time distinguishing between Brodie and Barrie because their names are similar. It's nothing much but sometimes I had to stop and reread to understand who the author was refering to.

I hope to read soon the next book on the series, Keeper of the Shadows, which is centered on Barrie Gryffald, the shapeshifter keeper. This time there is no clue as to who her romantic interest will be, but the fact that she is a journalist is enough to make me anticipate a fun mystery.

One final note to the fact that each book on this series is written by a different author. I had never read a series with different authors before, but apparently it's not that uncommon with Harlequin series. I could notice a difference in the writting style but, since the protagonists are different in each book, I think it works really well.

Let me just get one thing out of the way first. I had an ARC, and Im really hoping that some of the editing errors were removed between my version and the go live version.

That being said.

OH MY GLOB I DID NOT SEE THAT COMING.

And I know it wasnt a continuity error.

*ahem* Perhaps I should back up.

Keeper of the Moon is the tale of Sailor (and holy mother of god is that a stupid name) young and SUPER inexperienced Keeper for the Elves and Declan, a Shifter Keeper.

Wait, let me back up some more.

So in this world, there are magical races. Vampires, shifters, weres, Elves, Ogres, Pixies, Goblins, etc. Lots of them. And the thin blue line these supernatural beings and us normal humans are the Keepers. Sort of humans who are born with a *magical* birthmark that grants them some level of the abilities of the race theyre the keeper of.

Okay. So Sailor, who has Elf woowoo and Declan has shifter woowoo. And theyre both super powerful. And theyre both attracted to each other.

Well Sailor is attracted to Declan, Declan thinks shes just a snooty little wannabe actress. Until she gets injured and infected and he shifts into another form and interacts with her as someone else and realizes shes just a prickly little pear with him.

Around everyone else shes actually nice.

And hot.

So obviously they want to bone.

It may be apparent to you that I wasnt a HUGE fan of the romantic aspect of this novel. I mean, it was alright, and I do feel like their lust turned into genuine affection but there were times when the characters seemed kind of stiff. Well Declan seemed stiff. And not in the way thats acceptable in romance novels.

Plus there were a few things I wish theyd spent more time on.

Flip side, I really did like the mystery. I was constantly guessing, and there were actually a few times where I was wondering if Declan was the murderer knowing he wasnt because hes the male lead. I actually tried to envision ways for there to be a HEA in spite of it.

In the end, none of my theories were right. Well not entirely right. Actually, it took two of my theories and mashed them together and made a freaking manticore out of them. It was pretty swell.

3.5 Stars. Good mystery, decent romance, and an interesting concept.

With a touch of humor, romance, danger and a deadly-elves-pathogen, Keeper of the Moon is a fast-paced read set in and around Hollywood! I suppose if we believe in the fantasy Hollywood gives us, having Elves, Shifters, Vampires and other supernaturals living around there, makes TOTAL sense!

Sailor Ann Gryffald, is a newly appointed Keeper, a human born with a special tree-shaped birthmark, destined to protect and guard the Elven race. She is a young, aspiring actress who had taken over the job from her father, one of a long line of distinguished Keepers. Unfortunately, Sailor isn't really cut out for the political games that are played.

When beautiful elven women are turning up murdered with an ancient pathogen in their blood, Sailor decides to step up to the plate and blunders her way through her own investigations because the Keeper Council is full of slow-moving 'old people.' Suddenly, she finds herself a victim of the pathogen! It hasn't killed her, but why not?

Enter DeClan, an extremely handsome, domineering and wealthy, shifter Keeper. He concocts an agreement between himself and Sailor regarding the hunt for the killer. Does he have ulterior motives????

The chemistry between DeClan and Sailor is prickly, funny, endearing, and, dare I say just plain 'cute'-I loved their interaction! DeClan plays the serious, protective male, Sailor plays the not entirely innocent, well-meaning, intelligent, yet impulsive female, who is a delight! Honestly, at first, I was eye-rolling at some of the things Sailor was doing, but soon, as her character came into itself, I have to admit, I loved her! The story is a good take on "Others" not being too dark, not being too 'out there,' but always moving, rolling along at a good pace! Am I allowed to say a murder mystery is a fun read, because this was!

Keeper of the Moon is the second in the The Keepers: LA trilogy by Heather Graham, Alexandra Sokoloff, and Harley Jane Kozak following the three Gryffald cousins who are the new Vampire, Elven, and Shape-Shifter Keepers in L.A. A Keeper is a human, born into the position and with the ability to draw upon the powers of their charges, and charged with the oversight and protection of a particular faction of the Others.

Keeper of the Moon centers on Sailor Ann Gryffald, an aspiring actress and the new Elven Keeper of Laurel Canyon, and Declan Wainwright, a Shifter Keeper and popular nightclub owner. Sailor is attacked and infected with the Scarlet Pathogen linking her to the suspicious deaths of several Elven that Declan is already investigating. The duo team up to uncover the origins of the pathogen, what makes Sailor's reactions to it so unusual and who is killing the Elven.

The story focuses more on the mystery of the pathogen and hunt for the killer than the romance between Declan and Sailor. While I found myself wishing the couple would have spent a little more time together, I was impressed with the way Kozak portrayed Sailor's growth from a vapid, aspiring actress to a Keeper that could be depended on to keep her charges safe. Each of The Keepers: LA trilogy could be read as a stand-alone book, but I think you find them more enjoyable if they were read all together. I'm looking forward to seeing how Alexandra Sokoloff ends the series in Keeper of the Shadows (May 2013).

So far Keeper of the Moon has been my favorite of The Keepers: LA series. I liked both The Gate Keeper and Keeper of the Night, but Sailor and Declan’s story just took it up a notch.

Out of all the Gryffald cousins, Sailor is the one who seems to take her job as a Keeper the least serious – on the surface. The truth is, none of these girls really know what they are doing or what exactly is expected of them. They’ve been thrown into extremely responsible roles years before they thought they would have to be with no warning or training. Denial is to be expected, but just like Rhiannon, when Sailor was faced with the challenge of stepping up to her role, she didn’t shy away from it. I liked that about her.

Declan was a true Alpha male. He was protective, driven and tried to stay in total denial over his feelings toward Sailor. The attraction between these two was fun. Their dialogue was witty and smart. Declan was older and had been a Keeper for a lot longer than Sailor. It was great seeing his respect for her grow the more he got to know her.

There were a lot of twists and turns in this one. It was hard to decide who you could and couldn’t trust and the bad guy totally took me by surprise. I love it when that happens.

Keeper of the Moon has definitely made me want to follow this series even more. The characters are gaining more depth and the story line is becoming more cohesive. I can’t wait to see what Alexandra Sokoloff has in store for us with Barrymore’s story in Keeper of the Shadows.

This new series, The Keepers: LA, rocks! KEEPER OF THE MOON is actually the second book in the series but you can bet that I am going to search down the first book and read it also.

This book is actually the first one that Ms. Kozak has written in the romantic suspense genre but it has it all. There was a lot of tension as Sailor races to both master her position and to save more of her charges from being murdered. There is also a lot of sexual tension between Sailor and Declan. She has had a crush on him since she was a teenager and can't believe that he is also interested in her.

This is really a roller coaster of a book right up until the very satisfying ending when the villain ends up being someone that wouldn't have thought to suspect. I highly recommend this series to anyone who enjoys their romantic suspense with a paranormal twist. I rate this book a 4.2.

Keeper of the Moon by Harley Jane Kozak brings an interesting new twist to shifters, elven, and other otherworld creatures, we have come to know. Kozak weaves a mystery for readers, we follow the Keepers as they search for a killer. I loved Declan and Sailor, but wished they had spent more time together. I have not read the first book in the series, but I feel as if I should have in order to have a better understanding of this unique world set in L.A. The story was a bit bland for me and at times confusing, characters spent more time on the phone than face to face. Until the very end, where this tale takes off and I actually enjoyed the drama that unfolded! The ending in fact saved the story for me, made me want to see where else the Keeper story will go.

It had really great flow and did the job of making me think at times. I love a book that taps into my emotions. I am a real sucker for a sexy romance!! I laugh, I cry and I wish the hero were real so he could be mine! LOL

I would love to see more from this author! Definitely one to watch in the future.

So far the best book in this series, Declan and Sailor sind a great couple with chemistry and the plot was interesting enough to be not only a love story. I was pretty disappointedby the first book, but I'm happy that I kept on reading. Now I'll go straight to the last book and see what is going to happen.

Second book in a four book series. This book is written by a relatively new author. Harley Jane Kozak had 6 books under her belt and if her other books are as good as this one I have found a new must buy author. Kozak picks up where Heather Graham leaves off. She tells a compelling story.

Infected with a deadly disease to the elven community, Sailor Gryffald must investigate who is killing elven women. Being infected she must try to function while fighting the symptoms that are sapping her energy.

Declan Wainwright is the shifter Keeper and he has known Sailor since she was a little girl. He thinks she is a spoiled brat and totally clueless about her responsibilities toward her charges. Wainwright finds that Sailor may be struggling but she is a Keeper to be reckoned.

I received a copy of this book from Harlequin Netgalley for an honest review.

Fantastic! I love the cover and I really enjoyed Keeper of the Moon. It was fast paced and full of suspense. I loved everything about Sailor, determined to do her best at something she'd never really wanted to do int the first place, and a witty rule breaker who does what she has to get it done. And Declan, the sexy shifter of Sailor's dreams, really everyone's dreams lol, was just as fun to read about. I liked the chemistry between them, it wasn't too much, just the perfect amount of tension an romance. Great read, I highly recommend it!

I did enjoy this book, but the was not enough romance in it for me, lots of suspense and intrigue and paranormal aspect which I love - just missing sizzle.

Sailor is a keeper of elven and gets infected with a deadly disease, enter Declan keeper of the shifters who is very intriguing! Sailor is a tough cookie, won't be told what she should and shouldn't do. Declan tries to be there to protect her but she des not make it easy.

The story is very interesting and has lots of twists and turns, if I'm honest I enjoyed the beginning and end of book most.

The end was very nice, but was not enough build up of romance for my taste.

BRAVO! BRAVO! I bought this book as part of a series "keepers,L.A" I love Heather Graham so I decided to read all of them. Harley Jane Kozak (Who I never heard of ) wrote the second book in this series and let me tell you, I was blown away( In a good sense) what an Excellent writer! though the book is short, she captivated me from the first sentence to the last. To say the least I am now a fan!!!
I can't wait to read her other books.
As a side note there is only one other Author (so far) that I've read this year whose writing has had the same effect on me ,The Author's name is Jessica Tornese and she wrote "Lost Through Time"

I still don't understand this series. Okay, they're Keepers. They were born into this position and are human, but they have the same abilities as the group they keep (for lack of a better term). No one respects them or wants their help and they don't get paid for putting up with all the bullshit they go through. Yeah, I just don't see the benefits of this relationship. I will finish out the series, but that's just because I have to finish what I started.
