Dilemmas of European Integration: The Ambiguities and Pitfalls of Integration by Stealth

Rate this book
This major new statement from a leading European scholar provides a trenchant analysis of the pitfalls and ambiguities of 50 years of European integration, without losing sight of its benefits. Majone assesses the future of Europe after the new Constitutional Treaty, before controversially concluding that the EU has failed as a would-be federation, but has a chance of becoming an effective confederation of sovereign states.

I was very sceptical at first. Why should I read another book about delegation and European integration? Majone is a well-known name but do I really want to read a book that is based on 14 years old data? Now, I am glad that I gave it a try.

I would never have guessed to read such an innovative view on delegation. Yes, Majone´s data is old and some of his arguments don’t fit to the post-Lisbon EU structure anymore but his logical assumptions and clear analysis are still relevant.
