Holidays reflect the current culture of a society and like a shifting tide they change. Realizing this, The Easter Bunny declares war on the other Holidays in the hopes of gaining the one thing that can guarantee his immortality: The Holiday Spirit. Foreseeing The Bunny's betrayal, Santa hid The Holiday Spirit and marked Tegan Cassidy, a human infant, granting her the ability to find it. After sixteen years of war, nearly all the Holidays have been killed or have joined The Bunny. Led by Earth Day, the rag tag group of observances still fighting, turn to a now teenage Tegan in the hopes that she can lead them to The Holiday Spirit.

Scott King is an author and photographer. He was born in Washington D.C. and raised in Ocean City, Maryland. He received his undergraduate degree in film from Towson University, and his M.F.A. in film from American University.

“DAD! A Documentary Graphic Novel,” King’s first book was published in Fall ’09. He is also the creator and writer of “Holiday Wars.”

King is a game photographer based in Texas. His most common shoots are for websites, online stores, and for other marketing needs. He also produces an annual calendar that highlights board and other hobby games.

King was first introduced to the entertainment industry in high school when he was hired as a production assistant on “Runaway Bride.” At the time, he served as a reporter for the school newspaper and although another student was assigned the article about the movie King was determined to write it. He snuck into a press conference where Gary Marshall was meeting with local media, so that he could out-scoop his fellow student. Durring the meeting King asked a few questions about how the movie would affect bus routes and local businesses. The next day he was hired and he’s been working in the entrainment industry ever since.

Holidays Wars, much like a plethora of "concept books" before it, casts a big net with its name and concept; but, unlike the plethora before it, Holiday Wars #1 lives up to the expectation of its concept.

Concept books are a tricky domain that can easily come unstuck with poor execution and the easy way to overcome this risk is to attach your narrative to themes, Scott King has done this beautifully by making the story arch of Holiday Wars #1 a parody of '90s Action Movies. As such, the comedy remains self-aware and a nice little balancing act is perfected between what is arguably metafiction and an adventure story.

Beyond the theme, the Artwork is beautiful and, somewhere between King's writing and Michael Odom's Artwork, nothing is confusing; perspective is distinctive throughout and characterisation never gets confused. Depth of field and the such in the expansive battle scenes toward the end of the Book are very well done.

This was interesting. I love animation/cartooning so I enjoyed that aspect of this. The story line was certainly unique and hard to guess what was going to happen which was a plus. I probably won't continue the series though, it just seemed to go on way too long for me and I was getting kind of bored.
