Probably the best available Australian book on therapy and counselling practice. Paul's practice and teaching experience over the last 30 years shine through in his use of a consummate intelligence in assessing dynamics both in relationships beginning with the normal dyad of therapist and client up to the complex dynamics of dealing with an entire family. His book covers all stages of therapy from the referral and first session through the process and includes sensitive termination which is a skill missed by many therapists. Paul himself is essentially a Jungian but his breadth of theoretical knowledge extends far beyond this from individual and mainly conscious therapies, through family therapy and into the world of the psychoanalytic and psychoanalytically informed therapies. I highly recommend this book.

This was one of the best books I have read on psychotherapy. As a new practitioner I found it an invaluable resource for reflection and to enhance my ongoing learning. A great mix of practical things that can be implemented and comments that have led to a process of further reflection and thought,
