The book, Piru Love by Kre Kre, focuses on main character Solomon; a 17 year old Piru Blood gang member, of Compton, CA. Solomon is a victim of incest, sexual, physical, mental and emotional abuse. His father is unknown and he refers to himself as a "tricks baby". Solomon seeks to obtain love from his mother; who repeatedly rejects him. The story delivers a powerful message of "If you are not getting love from home, then you can get it from another family-a gang family"! The storyline is well developed, powerful, informative and educational. This book would make a great college study tool! The author did an excellent job! Five stars all the way!! Kudos for author Kre Kre!!! Enjoy!!!

I really liked this debut book by Kre Kre. I will say that I thought the book would be more about Chinadog and Chinadoll, rather than Solomon...because that is what the description lead me to believe...anyways, this book was very informative. I feel like I can go to Cali right now and be able to point out where the Piru's are. I have an understanding of the language and much more.

Solomon's character was one of growth, he was always mature but after he got sent off he came back a grown man. The only thing I didn't like about him is he seemed to have loose lips. For instance, when he would willingly tell people how his sisters would perform incest acts on him...That is some ish I would take to the grave.

I would have liked to known why Chinadoll had a change of heart. It seemed like she only cared once she realized he was famous...and I still have suspicion about that wink she gave to Tina-ru.

I can't wait to find out in book 2, what is going to happen with the person that came into his hospital room. Someone in another review mentioned it could have been the nurse, I never thought of that but that is definitely an possibility...and then it could have been Tina-ru...LOL hurry up with part 2 please!!!

Before I actually read this book I assumed it to be another 'hood book' about killing, and gangs but it was so much more than that. It definitely had a lot of gang activity and lingo going on, so much so that I skipped some informative paragraphs. However, despite the heavy gang talk, "Piru Love" had a really interesting story line that grabbed my attention from the first page. I loved Solomon, mainly bc I know so many Solomon's from my neighborhood. He had this negative reputation and engaged in a lot of gang activity, but deep down inside he was a scarred man who acted out bc he was trying to fill a void in his life. There were a couple of editing issues during the beginning of the book but the errors didn't take away from the story Also, the present tense writing style threw me off at times but as I continued to read the writing improved. I definitely recommend this book, don't be like me and judge the book by it's cover. I'm excited to read pt 2.
