Wesley’s love for Laken takes him to dark places he never believed existed, and what he discovers dismantles his world as he knows it

Addison did it again! Another AMAZING book! Honestly, I don't know how she writes so many books a year, although I'm not complaining, I just think she figured out how to make Ezrina clone her so she gets twice the work done everyday! :)
Really- this book was awesome. The 3 POV's made it interesting and fun. I sometimes had to go back and remind myself who's POV I was reading!
As per usual with Addison, she ended with a bit of a cliffhanger. That's ok though because we have lots of other great books to look forward to in the next few months and if you get bored you can reread both series before the new books come out! This book was cool about having a little more crossover from the characters from the Celestra series, I really enjoyed that feature.
Hope you all have fun indulging in the newest book to grace us from our favorite author!! It's a yummy treat!
I'd just like to say - the ONLY reason I am still reading this series, and giving it as many stars as I am, is that in spite of the aspects of this story that turn me off, Addison Moore is EXCELLENT at pulling you in to a story, at making sure you are invested completely, like you HAVE to know what is happening, regardless of whether you like the story or not.
I wrote a pretty lengthy review for book 1, but I'm going to try to keep it short for book 2 - mainly because I've already started book 3 and I really just want to finish this series.
FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS GOOD AND HOLY, PICK A BOY ALREADY!!! If I have to read about how much Laken loves Wes, and then how much she loves Coop on the same page anymore, I might gauge my eyeballs out. Pick one and then screw like monkeys, for goodness sake! Everyone else is, so get with the program!
Beyond that - I don't mind sex in my YA novels. I know it happens - I was a teenager. But I don't really care for reading about teenage hanging appendages. I don't want to picture them, I don't want to know in exquisite detail (have I mentioned what a vivid writer Moore is?) what they are doing/thinking/saying about said appendages. Moore could use a little training on how to allude to certain things, instead of coming straight out and waving them in your face.
I found a lot of parts pretty confusing; I still don't understand how this whole world works. Are they connected to the real world? I mean, it sounds like they are - they are somewhere in Connecticut, Wes's dad works in New York, Laken's nuMom takes her and nuJen to the mall, etc etc - so why in the world wouldn't Laken just take her happy little behind and walk the hell out of there, and try to find her way home? The thought never even crosses her mind... and really, it should have. Other than her aborted attempt in book 1 to call home, she doesn't really even try to get back to her real life. Just talks a lot about how she misses her mom and sister. So... leave? Why does she stay??? It doesn't make any sense. And what was up with Hattie the Grandma (wth?) trying to convince Laken that Coop was the bad guy? Where is Moore going with this??
So... that's the gist of what I walked away from this book from. Hopefully, there will be some actual answers in book 3 and not some more unanswered questions. I'm still debating whether I need to go back and read the Celestra series, since I haven't read it, just grabbed this series since it was on Kindle's Unlimited program. Decisions, decisions...
I am in love with her books. I get sucked in and want to be a part of this world. Even though it is full of danger and lies I do not care. I want in. I fall asleep reading her books and dream about the characters being my friends. Sad, I know. I want Laken, and Skyla to team up with me and figure things out. I want to date Logan, Gage, Cooper, Wes, and Marshall. I get so wrapped up in these books that I drool over them. I know that its not a healthy relationship to have, but it is what it is. If pre teens can be twihards and obsess over sparkling vampires, then I as a 23 year old, can obsess over nephilim. If your sitting there reading this and are saying "what the hell is this girl rambling on about" then please go check it our for yourself you will not be disappointed. addison moore. That is the authors blog. She puts together an incredible world. PS if your going to start reading her books start off with the Celestra series.
This book was great. It made me fall in like with Cooper, he is boyfriend of the week for me. Hes just that nice honest boy that you want to fall in love with. I think this book really expressed the characters personalities. I truly feel like I know them. I love to hate Kresly and Grayson. I want to love and protect Marky. I want to help Casper and Flynn reunite. This book really draws you in and helps you relate to all the characters. I also really enjoyed how it started to link up to the Celestra series. I think the way it was worked in very well and blended. It clarifies many mysteries from that series. I love the way the book ended, yet part of my was also upset. I wanted that to happen in the beginning, but now I am scared for Cooper. I don't want to spoil the end for anyone so its hard for to to convey this right. The end is good and it is a cliff hanger. I cannot wait for the last book to come out. I only hope that Laken makes the right choice. I would recommend this book 100%.
I was so excited when I found out that this book was already released. I just had to read it right away. Addison Moore didn't disappoint. Another AMAZING novel that I read it in 1 day. I could not put it down for a minute. I was so engrossed. I LOVED EVERY SCENE. Lots of humor, action, sensual romance, drama, and adventure. I also enjoyed that characters from the Celestra series were featured in this book. I really miss them too. And the ending. Just WOW....what's going on. I'm really really afraid because I'm for COOPER AND LAKEN. This is gonna drive me nuts. I want the next book NOW!!!!. I'll just keep re-reading until then.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I wish I didn't read it so fast, but it was so good! I love how the Countenance and Celestra series dip into one another. Sooo...how long do we have to wait until the next one? I can't wait to find out what happens now that Wes is "back" but to be honest I'm rooting for Coop!
Although the story is told by 3 different people and points of view, the book keeps up the pace and doesn’t sound confusing, except if you had your head somewhere else. Then, maybe you will need to check whose turn it is to tell the story.
Also, in this second book, Moore turns of the excessive descriptions of how perfect the characters are and dives deeper in the content of the story, what makes the reading much more enjoyable.
If you had the patience and the time to read through the first book, give a try to this second one.
A strange, T&YA coming-of-age fantasy. Laken, Cooper, and Wesley have formed a love triangle. In addition, Laken and Cooper are working to save those enslaved by the Countenance. Which, of course, is the exact opposite of Wesley's desire.
This title is not a standalone story. It depends heavily upon the first book. Plus, while it progresses, it doesn't come to a conclusion. Nevertheless, it appears to be essential to the trilogy.
Easy-to-read. Entertaining. Great world building. Romantic. Scary. Tragic. Twisted. Unpredictable. Whimsical. Wonderful characters.

The Story: Ana: The mystery continues. Just when you think you’ve got it figured out, something happens out of the blue and you’re left scratching your head again. Who to believe? That is the ultimate question here! I know who I want to believe…and what I want to have happen…but, as always, you never know where Addison will take you next. I really enjoy the alternating POV’s because they provide me with lots of information. Each character’s view of the situation and internal dialogue helps me uncover tiny bits of the story that might have been lost if it had not been written this way.
Celeste: 4.5 stars! Addison Moore has done it again! I have totally fallen in love with the characters and this world at Ephemeral…I wish it were real! Laken Stewart continues to search for her mother and sister, who are hidden in the Celestra tunnels. While she is officially with Wesley, Cooper Flanders is the guy I couldn’t get enough of. There was never a dull moment, and the plot thickened with every page I turned.
The Main Characters:
Laken Ana: She’s a tough cookie! There’s so much going on in her life and yet she’s able to focus on the end result most of the time. Her conflicting emotions aside, she’s constantly trying to solve this great puzzle. And she certainly knows how to deal with those two boys!! :)
Celeste: She rules! That is all. I wish I was Laken or friends with her in real life. She has her priorities straight and wants to save her family. She also is so good to Coop; she is totally honest with him and knows she has to see whether there is anything left with Wes before she can even think about moving on. While Laken hints that she might want more with Coop, she never leads him on. Laken’s healthy sense of snark is probably one of my favorite qualities; she has just the right combination of wit and attitude.
Wes Ana: Oh man…he’s growing on me just a little bit. His love for Laken is genuine even if his intentions are a bit suspect. He goes through a lot in this book but never waivers from what he wants. He’s got a great inner monologue, especially when he thinks about Coop!
Celeste: I liked him in the last book, but that has pretty much worn off in this installment. Looks like Ana and I have swapped! He thinks he is in love with Laken, but I don’t think he loves her as much as he could love a girl….basically I think there’s someone else out there for him.
Cooper Ana: *sigh*…love him…love him! Without a doubt, I’m still team Cooper! He’s just such a great guy…sweet and brave and true. *sigh*…did I say I love him?!?! Addison…you know what I need, you know who Laken needs to be with…don’t let me down!! ;)
Celeste: I LOVE HIM!!!! And it’s not just because of his “rock hard body” unf. He is the whole package. Hot, funny, naughty, totally in love, did I say naughty? His chemistry with Laken is undeniable, we just need Laken to sort out her feelings and give Wes the boot!!
The secondary characters Ana: There are so many characters in these books that I sometimes have a hard time keeping them straight. But, as soon as they open their mouths to speak, I know exactly who they are because each has such a distinct voice. The mean girls are very mean and the creepy characters continue to give me goosebumps…can’t ask for more than that!
Celeste: Oh man, I think I got them all straight again by the end of the story. I think it was the fact that everyone seems to have surnames for names! The mean girls just make me laugh with their big boobs and sluttyness. I hate them, but yet love to be entertained by them.
The cover: Ana: Our girl in red. Another beautiful cover…these are books that beg to be displayed!
Celeste: I can’t stop staring at it!!! Stunning.
The end: Ana: OMG…so much happens in that last chapter and the mystery just keeps getting better. I don’t want to ruin it for you but the ending is BIG!! I can’t wait to see what happens next!!
Celeste: Holy crap! I wish I had waited to read this book so I could read the next one straight away!!! So much happened, and the bottom is going to fall out since a certain someone remembered some “stuff”. But what I really want to read about next is the romance (yes, I am so predictable, what can I say? I love romance!). I am loving the direction everything is going in and can’t wait to see where the next installment picks up.
Final Thoughts: Ana: Another great series from Addison Moore! It feels a bit like coming home, yet it’s new characters, awesome adventure and different situations. And, there’s another great team for me to be on…ahhhh, Cooper, how I adore you!!! Oh no…looks like Celeste will want to share…or maybe Addison can just her that he’s mine…Addison…Addison…!! ;)
Celeste: Loved and recommend to everyone! I actually wish I had finished reading the Celestra series first (I have 3 more books left) because I think it might have helped fill in the blanks a bit and round out the story. However, just so you know… it didn’t take away from Evanescent that I hadn’t read. I also wish I had read this right after book 1, and followed by book 3 lol. There are a lot of small details that are hard to remember and keep track of…back to back reading would have solved all of that for me. I am so invested in Laken and Cooper, and I can’t wait to read more!

Excellent second entry in the Countenance trilogy, and addition to the Celestra universe. Really enjoyed the seamlessly integrated alternating view points from Laken, Cooper, and Wesley. Made for excellent storytelling.
I liked this book a lot, like many others in the Celestra world but the change to dual POV’s did throw me off. All of the other books have been from one characters POV, including the first in this trilogy. It was just a very unexpected change and I find myself trying to get back to Laken’s POV.
So I didn't love the first book, but I was still very intrigued by this story. I wanted to know how this was going to play out. Well this second book was so gripping. I could not stop I read it in a day, there was just so much happening. Yes we are still in this triangle with Cooper, Wes & Laken but lines are definitely being drawn and you can see where sides are being picked. I have my favorite at this point but I'm still torn between the two boys, I love them both. And the way the story is still so hidden, yes as each chapter goes by we learn a little more but we still don't have the bigger picture. I thought I would be upset by the slow drip of information we are being given but I'm loving it. I'm loving this book and I can't wait until the next one. As much as I thought the first book was slow this book is not. I'm glad I came back to this series I'm hooked now. Oh and the secondaries, there are so many players in this game but they all have such intricate parts it's just fun. I'm loving it. Enjoy

I loved this book, its a great continuation from the first, and this one ties in with the Celestra series very well. We even get a little from Skyla , Logan and Gage in this one too. I loved that!!
I really love seeing how much Laken has grown, and boy I just adore Cooper. I still do no like Wes, dislike him even more. I think its great how determined Laken is to fight her own kind and help the Celestra, which makes her a hero in my eyes. Her and Cooper , who is Celestra himself as we know. I am anxious for book 3, as well as the final Celestra book, which I am sure will have some of what I read here on the meeting up with Skyla, Logan and Gage in it.
A must read for any fans of Addison Moore, if you have read and liked the Celestra series, then this is a must read series. It gives some useful information, and learning more about the Counts evil ways is interesting.
5 out of 5 stars, and LOVE the cover too!
Book 3 ENTROPY (Countenance Trilogy 3) will be out late 2013

"In the eyes of God, the truth is living and active, sharper than any double-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart."
Laken is back and is working at getting back her mom and sister as well as Cooper's mom and Flynn's sister from the Counts. She is willing to do anything to get her life back. The life where she is Laken Stewart not Laken Anderson and the love of her life is Wesley Parker nor Wesley Paxton. She also wants to help all of the Celestra that are locked up, being used for their blood.
"To do nothing would be to yield to the wickedness - to bow to it, become it." Laken didn't want to become wicked. She wants what's fair and just and she isn't going to sit by and wait for someone else to do something about it.
Cooper is the only person she trusts in Ephemeral, which is sad because the love of her life is in this place as well and loves her in this reality - he just doesn't remember their past in Kansas and thinks she's crazy for having such delusions. But Cooper... he's perfect. He completes her and understands her.
"Don't be afraid, Laken," I whisper, tracing her brow with my finger. "Be strong. I'll hold you up." I reach for her hand. "I'll never let you fall."
Cooper is hell bent on fighting for what he wants - and that's Laken. He loves her like he's loved no one else. She fills his life with hope and love and a sense of family. She belongs with him - she just has to realize it and he's willing to do anything in his power to do that.
"This is the only place I want to be. You're the roof protecting my sanity, the walls holding up my will to survive. The Counts cast their shadow over my life and you cast the light." - Yes, Cooper completes her - so what's stopping them from being together?
The answer: Wesley Parker, I mean Wesley Paxton. Laken doesn't want to give up on Wesley. Her Wesley is somewhere inside this guy who doesn't remember anything about her and Kansas but instead knows a false memory of her. She just has to keep on digging. And while she digs, she has to use him to get inside to the deeper secrets the Counts have in order to figure out a way to save her friends and family.
When the truth grows in the ground surrounded by overgrowing weeds of lies - what do you trust, your head or your heart?
""Wesley Parker is back, and Coop better get the hell out of my way because there's not a damn thing he can do to stop me."
With an ending like this one - I'm going to be screaming my head off until I get the next novel in this series! If you haven't started reading this series, what the hell are you waiting for? Also, you should read the Celestra series because that's what started all of this off - and you'll understand the appearance of Logan, Gage, and Skyla in this novel a heck of a lot more.
*Sigh* Yes, this is one of those books that ends and you just sit there for a minute, basking in the moment...and then you come to your senses and rush to buy the next book. As I've said before, I love Addison Moore's writing style. It's easy for her words to play a movie in my mind; a movie that I have to watch until it's over, not taking breaks, except to use the bathroom. Even if the story wasn't all that great, which 'Evanescent' definitely is, I would probably still read the entire series just because she wrote it. 'Evanescent' does exactly what second books are supposed to do, but without a filler-type feel like some second books have. Oh, no...this one opened up new cans of worms that left me scrambling through the pages wanting to find out what was going to happen next. Cooper Flanders, the cute guy who saved her from the evil thing in the woods in the beginning of 'Ephemeral', becomes a bigger (much bigger) part of her life, making her question her feelings for her boyfriend, Wesley Paxton/Parker. She always seemed to be torn in book one, but she's absolutely pulled to the breaking point in this book. Wes, who also happens to be her boyfriend from when she/they were alive, doesn't believe her when she tells him of their past life together, since the only one he remembers is this one, where he is a Count and proud of it. Lakin realizes that the real Wes, her Wes, just isn't there anymore, replaced by a Count, which is an angel faction that Lakin is also a part of, but wishes she wasn't. These realizations force her lean on Coop, who is a Celestra and has believed her from the beginning, trying his best to help her figure out what's going on and who is behind it. Lakin gains new friends, people she can trust, who just might help her get to the bottom of all of the deaths, among other things...or at least die trying. Without giving away spoilers, which I never do, all I can say is this series is a must read. I've thoroughly enjoyed every page I've scampered through, wanting to get to the end, but dreading it at the same time, not wanting it to be over.
Ok. This series is the counterpart to the MUCH LOVED (by me anyway) Celestra series. That being said, yes, there are similarities, that is to be expected, as we are still dealing with young adult Nephilim who, just like any other 17-18 year old are interested in, sex, parties & friends.
On to the review!
I found this book, the second in the Countenance trilogy to be...Just WONDERFUL! Laken is finding her way through a storm of false people, liars that she loves & truths she didn't know existed, until now. She NEEDS to find her REAL family. She knows exactly where they are & what they're being used for. But getting them out of their confinement is quite another story. With the help of Cooper Flanders, (who she trusts implicitly & is falling in love with# Laken is ready to risk life & limb to get her loved ones back. But what does this mean for Wes, The boy who had her heart in another life entirely, the boy that has lied, deceived, & tried to make her believe something she knew in her heart was not true, all for "the greater good"? I'm not telling... #not that I know#You have to find out for yourself. I know. I'm mean like that. LOL
It's about young love, truth in what you know to be & suffering through the trials & tribulations of what you have to go through to get there. To grow.
It's a beautiful series, as was the Celestra series. Even though both are stories from Addison Moore's mind, heart & soul, they have touched my heart unlike any other books I have EVER read. They have taught me that I have to really fight for what I believe in, that love doesn't grow on trees & that He is THE Light, Love & Glory of forever!
I did find myself being sucked in to the parallel world of Ephemeral again. I've got to say that I'm strongly leaning to Coop as the boy of choice because he's like a ray of sunshine free of secrets and lies, but Wes is like a dark night full of deception and false hope. Laken becomes a little bit of a two-boy kisser. I do understand how she's drawn to Wes because he's her past and that's something that's hard to let go of especially with their history, but even when he does come partially through he's still marked with the Countenance and their evil ways. Coop is my man!!! Mr. Edinger freaks me out with his Fem parlor tricks. We learn more about how far Wes is willing to take Laken into his world just so she won't pick Coop but I mean even Edinger himself says it's destiny. If Laken would have stopped just running from one boy to the next and almost going all the way with both of them it would have been a little better. I can't blame her too much though, I would have probably been the same. My disliking of Grayson and Kresly does grow stronger but there are definitely some moments of laughter and anger. A little bit mature of a book for YA, but nevertheless a great book.
Love Addison Moore’s books and this is a great step in the series
I love how Skyla & Logan tie in with this series and make appearances :-)
I think Laken & Cooper are great characters and how they are playing Wes and the rest of the Counts. Loved Ezrina in the Celestra series and still love her in this series, she just loves to break the rules and it’s mostly for the benefit of the characters we grow love :-)
I highly recommend any of Addisons books to you all, she’s an amazing writer and really gets your imagination flowing and the way she writes you feel along with the characters. Just brilliant!!
With most books you can figure out what is coming next well with Addisons writing ability you really don’t.... Read and try to guess and you will mostly be wrong it’s fantastic!!
The storyline of how twisted the Counts really are is coming to light now though, how will Wes react???.... Well that was the ending and I’m not-so-patiently waiting and very eager to read the next book.... Hurry Addison please....
wow, for everything i wasn't crazy about in "ephemeral", addison moore turned it around and then some on this book. laken's character really, really annoyed me in the first book but not anymore. switching the points of view provided much wanted insight into the three main characters. i was thoroughly captivated the whole time and had to pace myself to make sure i wasn't skipping anything to get to the end. i cannot tell you how much i LOVE where she has taken this story and how more characters and events from skyla's world are now intertwined with laken and her crowd.
i had to re-read "ephemeral" after a couple of chapters of "evanescent" in because the author dives right in where she left off in the first book. i had a hard time remembering some of the people and what had happened previously, but once that was done getting back to book 2 made it that much better. now i cannot wait for book 3 of this trilogy!
Once again, I was up until 4am reading one of Addison Moore's books! I should have learned my lesson by now, and not waited until early evening to start reading! It's is so unbelievably hard to put her books down once I start.
I am really hoping to see Laken, Coop, and Wes in the last Celestra book with Skyla, Logan, Gage and Marshal. I am truly going to be sad once these two series are over, but after reading Addison Moore's first adult book, Someone to Love, I can't wait to read about Skyla's life after HighSchool. ( with the man she finally chooses) ;)
Thank you Addison for allowing me and so many others to wonder into this surreal world with you!!! Also, I love how you interact with your fans ( me included) on FaceBook! :)
The thing I love most about this book and all of Addison Moore’s books is that you don’t know what is going to happen next. You don’t even know what you want to happen next. One second I’m team Coop all the way and the next I’m team Wes. I can say this book really did make me lose sleep I could not bring myself to put it down. I keep telling myself ok after this chapter you need to go to bed and then I would read though it and tell myself ok one more. This happened until I ended staying up until four Am and finishing the book. I think I might have even liked book two better then book one which I didn’t think could happen. Can not wait to read book 3!
Oh Addison.....how I love and hate your love triangles (or love square as your Celstra series lol). Just when I think I'm done with counts and celestral beings you BAMM come back with a refreshing approach.
Loved loved loved Coop cool and calm demeanor and Laken's not so slutty ways. She seemed to be a woman with a mind and knew how to use it.
I am super excited about the third installment of this series!!!!
*******Work of advise to new readers of Addison. Read the Celsetra series FIRST. If you don't this series will have you lost and confused.
Addison Moore did it again. First I absolutely love the dress on the cover. Laken Stewart knew who she was even if know one else believed her. Had me from the get go. This book is a second in the series and picks up right away . Both tie in well with the Celestra Series so if you are a fan. I can't wait for the meet up with Sklya, Logan and Gage in book 3 . Team Coop all the way even though he made a deal in book #2 with the devil himself that is sure to bite him in the bum come book 3. If you are an Addison Moore fan or have read the Celestra series definitely a MUST READ!!
I have just finished reading "Evanescent" and even though I know how things end up between Laken & Wes from reading the "Celestra" series, I am so rooting for Wes at the final moment of this book. Poor guy is definitely not what I have thought of him from the "Celestra" series. He is genuine and loves Laken like no other. It's great to see Skyla, Gage & Logan make appearances in this book. I don't want to give up too much info..Just saying, you'll definitely be moving right along to "Entropy" the 3rd book of this series as soon as you read the last page.
ok I read all the celestra books and hated pretty much everyone except Ellis Marshall ezrina and never but I really like this series I don't think lakens a vapid idiot like skyla and the guys have actual personalities, it always seemed that Logan and gages only personality traits were I love skyla and I hate that, also stuff actually happens in this book which is always a good thing so yea good book better series
