If you liked the Timetables of History, then you will most likely enjoy this book. It starts with the big bang and goes up into the mid 20th century, and fills out the information it offers with some epistemology. It digs into the key scientific discoveries that support our knowledge of the universe, and orders that knowledge into a timeline. It is now out of date, but as far as I can tell, the information contained in the book is still valid. It's really too dry to read cover to cover, but is a good reference, especially if you are into Big History or new creation stories (not religious ones!).
