Okay. Seriously!?!? The worst ending to a series by far. Ever. In the history of books. Ughhhh!!!!!!!!
I loved the series, but am seriously pissed about how the series was ended. You could have added more to the epilogue Amy. Come on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I loved and hated this last book. It was so emotional, I don't know the last time I have cried so much and cried such deep gut wrenching tears. Right from the start I am horrified by what is happening to all of the characters I love, I could not believe what Malachi did to both Rose and Sadie. The heartbreak I could feel from Gabriel because of having to leave her through the authors words is heartwrenching. Then Gabriel meets Katia, the only thing I found interesting about this part is that Seneh is living in this shack with the human girl and she is one of many children Lucian created out of pain and lust. The things I had to read about in regards to where Lucian was holding Roseline and the things she had to endure at this mans hands was horrific, that is why this is not your traditional romantic vampire story. It is filled with many detailed scenes of what was done to the two monk friends of Gabriel's by the hands of Lucian's right hand man Malachi. Then later to read what the poison was doing to Rose's body made me so sad, I was so afraid she would be turned into this beast and never be herself again. What Rose did to Malachi was gross and could be very disturbing to certain people to read. The love Fane has for Rose is neverending and I was so happy that he found her even though he was devastated by what she had become. I was thrilled to death when Gabriel finally was reunited with his friends and anxious to be reunited with his love Rose. When he had to see what Lucian did to her, I was bawling so hard because his heart was shattered. It all clicked to me then, what he could do to save her and let's just say the reunion between the group of friends and her was beautiful. Once again I cried my eyes out when Rose was talking to Fane and with her touches making him understand that just because she loved Gabriel didn't mean see didn't love him just in a different way. I loved reading about Sadie and Nicolae and there on again off again romance. When the battle begins I was on the edge of my seat scared to death of who was going to die in this battle and what was Lucian going to do. There were many interesting creatures involved in this battle and it was neat how Amy's words made me feel like I could see this terrible battle between good and evil right before my eyes. I swear my heart stopped beating for like 2 seconds when something happens during this terrible battle that literally made me cry so hard that I couldn't catch my breath because sobbing so hard. Then finally it seems like things are finally going our way and what I had wanted all along could at least happen now but then boom, there he was Lucian and he had caught Gabriel off guard and was hurting him, I felt sick in my stomach at this point. I was amazed at what that special sword of Gabriel's could do to Lucian but unfortunately happiness occurred to soon and just as they were professing their love to each other and that their lives would be bonded to each other forever the worst thing possible happened and I have to say for the rest of that chapter, the next chapter, and through the Epilogue I could not stop bawling, I read the rest of this book through tear filled eyes that barely could focus as my body shook because of how hard I was crying. Wow this book encited many emotions in me and if I didn't know that Amy had a follow up book to further this story I would have been furious and so sad at how the book ended. All I want to say to end this review is make sure you read the Epilogue at the end of this book because it caused my tears to stop rolling down my cheek and it allowed for hope to seep into my heart and brain. Loved this series.
Amy Miles has done it again in the 3rd book in the Arotas Trilogy. I have no idea how she gets us so involved with each character, this book is so complex, but you don’t lose sight of the current drama switching to a different character to find out what they are dealing with. Some books it almost seems like a commercial interruption, but this flows so smoothly that each page you turn is another situation of what is happening to each character that we’ve invested ourselves in since Forbidden.
Roseline, Gabriel, Fane, Sadie, Nicolae and the rest of the crew are spread out dealing with their own drama and fighting their own demons. Roseline is captured trying to live, resist what Lucien has done to her and hang on to another day. Gabriel is trying to find himself, who he really is and what his destiny will be while wanting to find Rose. Fane is heartbroken with losing Roseline and trying to be the leader in her place by making the best decisions he can. Nicolae and Sadie are dealing with their contested love now that things have changed while working with Fane to combine forces. William and Sadie are bringing humor as they so often do, whenever possible to lighten things up a bit.
I love that this book has so much mystery and serious moments and then a joke is inserted and you are laughing out loud. I’ve adored this about the whole series. I enjoy the writing style, the fact you have no clue what’s going to happen, there are major surprises, joining of forces that only Roseline could make happen and loss of characters but it all fits no matter how sad it is, you know it was meant to happen.
Thanks Amy Miles for this fantastic book series and I can’t wait to get into to Roseline’s head and find out what happened before she went to Chicago.
This one got a 4.5 as well. This one was actually better than the last book, but I must say most of it came from the ending.
This book was a lot like the last one when it came to the time that Rose and Gabriel spent together. The middle of the book was the relief though and you just sighed with pleasure with all that happened between the two afterwards.
I was sad after the death of an angel I had come to like. It made me tear up a little and it made it even worse with the way that Gabriel reacted to it as well, but it wasn't as painful as the death of one of my favorite characters Fane. Oh I cried, I cried really hard. It tore me up to see how Rose and Fane said their goodbyes. I'm still sad about it now.
The fact that Sadie is immortal was kinda cool, but I felt that she just wasn't as fun loving as she was before and had grown more serous, I guess that comes with becoming someone who is a killing machine though.
The very ending though is what mad me so mad that I almost did not finish it. They killed the bad guy of course, but then Gabriel dies and they said goodbye. I totally cried and groan with anger at the same time...I was so mad. The ending was good with how Gabriel came back to life within his tomb and Elias was like 'She is waiting' but it really did not make up for it for me. So yeah this book was good bt had bad things within it for me.
I received this book from the author for an honest review. I was so glad to read the last book right after reading the first two in the trilogy. That way the characters were fresh in my mind and the story just continued where book 2 left off. Although this story had a darker theme to it with Roseline and Gabriel having to find their own paths in the world without the other.. which was kind of a bummer as they had such a pull towards each other in the first book. If you are looking for that "and they lived happily ever after" kind of story you are in for a rude awakening! These two kids have nothing but heartache, trials and death where ever they go. Yes the ending was sad.. and I am glad the epilogue was there although I was still looking for some closure which didn't happen. This is why I say it was a realist story not everything in it was good or happy which made it more realistic instead of a fairy tale. This trilogy ended but could very well continue if the author ever decides she wants to add to it. I would be happy to read more of Roseline's and Gabriel's lives if she does!
Oh man, what a finish! I think it almost killed me! Rose & Gabriel are still just amazing, apart or together, and they really have some great friends who will follow them anywhere! I thought they had troubles before, but that was only the beginning. All hell breaks loose in this book! I feared for EVERYONES' survival at some point. There was non-stop action from beginning to end and many, many tears. My only complaint is that this ended the trilogy. I really need more!!
Hm... Really good give four star because I don't like ending .... There really should be some kind of after story. Something about there parents because I am sure Gabriel mum must be furious where her son is and same goes for Sadie :) I hope Amy going to write some sort of ending book:)
At the end of Reckoning, Roseline was unable to prevent Sadie from being mortally wounded by Malachi. She barely had time to reel from his betrayal before she found herself a prisoner of Lucien whom she had presumed dead. Rose is horrified by Lucien’s grotesque transformation and when he claims that her rightful place is to rule by his side, she revealed that she was bound to Gabriel. Malachi watched silently in the background as a furious Lucien fed on a powerless Rose.
In Redemption we discover that after Vladimir’s death, Bran Castle has been overthrown. Scores of Immortals and Hunters have lost their lives. For Nicholae, victory comes at high price when he finds Sadie on the verge of death. He begs a reluctant Fane to turn her into an immortal.
Roseline’s powers have been weakened since Lucien fed on her. Imprisoned and tortured, with Lucien’s blood altering her essence in ways she doesn’t understand, she’s forced to accept Malachi’s blood in an effort to slow the transformation. Malachi’s remorse does nothing to quell her mistrust in spite of her increasing reliance on his blood.
To William and Nicholae’s relief, Sadie adapts well to her transformation. When she hears about Rose’s abduction, she is adamant that she wants to be a part of the rescue mission. Fane agrees to train her.
A spate of gruesome murders committed by Lucien across the globe brings unwanted attention to the immortal world. Lucien’s goal is to strike fear and place immortals at the top of the food chain.
As the poison begins to take over her body completely, Roseline’s bloodlust increases and speeds up her transformation. Malachi realises that time is running out for Rose. He is appalled by Lucien’s new appearance and can’t bear to see the same thing happen to her. After helping Rose to escape, they take refuge at Torrent. Malachi’s sacrifice, however, proves to be his undoing and he pays the ultimate price. Having fully succumbed to her bloodlust and transformation, what does this mean for Rose? Is she beyond saving?
Fane, Nicholae, Sadie, William and the rest of the hunters travel to Canada where they hope to team up with the Senthe in a bid to take out Lucien once and for all.
Gabriel, aided by Elias and Seneh, continues his quest in order to fulfil his destiny. His second trial comes at a high cost however, when Seneh dies protecting him. Armed with a special sword, Gabriel and Elias travel to Canada for an epic showdown. Who will triumph? Who will fall? At what cost? Will Gabriel and Rose ever be together?
Redemption was well written albeit more darker than its predecessor. Throughout the series we have read from alternating point of views which has given us intimate insight into the characters. One can’t help being fully invested in the them up to this point. Sadie’s transformation was a relief. She had endured so much in Reckoning and her death would have been a gross injustice.
Roseline’s torture scenes and her struggle to retain her humanity was tough reading at times. I was really rooting for Enael. He was so sweet and so very brave throughout his ordeal, offering his blood to Rose so they could escape. I was heartbroken by his demise.
Even Malachi’s fate was undeserved. That he had been reporting to Elias all along said a lot. He was obviously torn. We never learn his origins or why he made the choices he did. I was saddened by that.
Fane’s death was equally distressing. He had been such loyal, dignified and calm presence throughout. The mutual respect between him and Nicholae as well as the rest of the hunters who had more than enough cause to hate immortals was a testament of his character.
Gabriel’s ‘death’ and resurrection on the other hand was predictable when Lucien’s blood mixed with his. After all, it was Gabriel’s blood that had revived his father.
Several aspects confused me. If Gabriel was Arotas, why did the Cherubims find him unworthy? Roseline origins are still a mystery. Why was she chosen and what was special about her blood? I hope these questions will be answered in the fourth installment, Evermore.
All in all this has been a great series which I highly recommend.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
So... Many months ago a friend mentioned this series. We were at a signing and the author was there. I bought a paperback and put it on my shelf. But I have many books on my shelf and not enough time so it sat! Until I saw it was also available in audiobook...
Once I started the trilogy, I couldn't stop. Rose and Gabriel have a Romeo and Juliet like story. With Vampires, Immortals, and more, you will be constantly checking over you shoulder for the sky to fall, the end of the world, or someone out to kill you. But with good friends, creepy stalkers, and a menagerie of "magical" beings, you will find an incredible journey!
For all those readers out there, you might want some tissues. (You know, in case some... dirt gets in your eyes.)
As I have said in my 2 previous reviews of the books in this series, the author loves disgusting creatures, blood, gore, and war! This book is more of an action novel than a romance at all. It's all action. I'm not saying it's bad. I liked the ending of this series- thank goodness, because the last big series I read turned out terrible. There is one more Novella called Evermore, that is like an epilogue I have to read- kind of book 4. Going right to it!
Being a lover of romance novels you come to expect a happily ever after ending to you novel. This novel takes twists and turns and leaves you gasping for air. Certainly not a typical romance.
This was a gripping conclusion to a riveting series . The final showdown came and the war was raged . Many good people were lost but many more won out . I'm not a fan of the ending however. I thought it was too abrupt and left too much unsaid . Other than that an excellent ending to the trilogy .
...I don't really know how to start. (I'm still reeling from finishing this book). Redemption was definitely a roller coaster, filled to the brim with endless outpouring of emotions. A majority of this book, particularly the first half would be a psychologist's wet dream. Redemption picks up where Reckoning ended and holy hell did the author ramp up the action. I thought Reckoning had a lot, but the gore and action were increased in the last book. That aside, Redemption began with three different viewpoints (Roseline's, Gabriel's, and Fane's/Nicolae's) and eventually all three met up. Again, like the first two, I was emotionally invested in this book. I screamed for Roseline's horrible treatment and shuddered at Lucien's inherently sadistic streak. I wanted to smack Malachi around, but held a little hope that he was still good. I felt Gabriel's frustration and towards the end I chided him for his lapse in judgement. I could go on, but then I wouldn't know where to stop. I started and finished this book in one day because I just had to know how everything would come to an end. I rejoiced over the truce that was made and inwardly wept over the injustices.
Honestly, it was the battle and the end that really had me in a tizzy. I will say that the beginning of the battle did remind me a little bit of the one in Breaking Dawn (Twilight), so I was a little wary about where the author was taking me. I do also think that the fight between Lucien and Gabriel could have been carried out a little bit longer. I felt that was hastily written out, but I guess at least it wasn't nothing. Anyways, thankfully the author didn't take the ending in the same direction as Breaking Dawn. Still, I was violently slapped across the face with the events. I knew there would be casualties, but holy mother of the supernatural! I was crushed with the losses and I was absolutely floored when the epilogue came around. It actually reminds me of another book I've read (or was it a movie). Anyways, it was definitely surprising and although many readers may not have liked how it ended, in my opinion it all worked out...kind of. I will say that the way the epilogue was written, there is an implication that there could be another book. Now mind you, I said COULD...that doesn't mean there will be. Or it could just be a way to appease angry readers and have them imagine what the future of Roseline and Gabriel holds.
This was a series that I read within the span of 3-4 days (give or take one day). I'm amazed at how I stuck to this story like glue and though there were many times I wanted to wring the necks of the characters, I kept on. There were a few times I had to question the plot due to the appearance of angels, weird reptilian creatures, and even a mention of the Fae. I continued reading though as I really just wanted to know what was going to happen. So I obviously think this is a good series to read and I would recommend it to readers that like books about vampires. Be warned though, if you are looking for the romanticized Hollywood vampires, this isn't exactly the book to find them in.
Back when I started this series I thought it was going to be like every other YA PNR I’ve read. You know the type, teenage girl falls immediately in love with a boy and does stupid things. This series has gone above and beyond what I would have expected. It’s definitely not your momma’s romance. This series is totally bad ass. Each book gives you an inside look into a different character by alternating pov’s. I feel like I know these characters so intimately and book three crushed me to my core. I said in my review for book 2 that no one is safe and book three proved that. I almost didn’t believe what my eyes were reading. It was like I was in denial over the death(s) of a fictional character and I was not okay with it. Redemption was a bloody mess. I never shy away from gore but this will make some people squirm. The thing I loved about Redemption is that it was unpredictable. I had a million scenarios running around in my head and not one of them was right. I thought there would be a huge reunion between Roseline and Gabriel, but the author had other plans. Wicked plans. In retrospect, I wouldn’t have had it any other way. I’m also glad that she wrote a novella after Redemption. I hate guessing what’s supposed to happen next. I like to read where there author intends for it to end, not where my crazy imagination will take it.
This is one of those series where you walk away frustrated after every addition. These books do need to be read in order for better understanding. So in books 1 and 2 we follow Rose through her separation from Dracula and her falling in love with Gabriel. In book 3 we learn that vampires can be brought back to life. This book was a little darker than the others, with quite a few gory scenes. Of course we end the book with an Epic battle as the author has done in all of these books, only to be follow by a cliffhanger. I enjoyed the story, even though it's extremely frustrating to not fall into it until then end, only to want to read the next even though you know it's going to take you just as long to get pulled into it. However I will read the 4th and final book, which means this isn't a trilogy as stated! The next line will be a spoiler if you have not read the book........ Why was Rose so haunted by the visions of her killing the angel? Since she literally just said she could not remember anything that happened during that time frame. It was just gone. So why all the sudden torment? I think the author forgot she told us that Rose was unable to remember however long Lucian had her. Those type of discrepancy's really bother me when I am reading. Don't state facts and forget you said them!!
This was a great ending to the trilogy. Redemption was very well written and had a realistic feel to it. Not everything is sugar coated when dealing with your enemies like torture and facing trials that may help you win a war. It made it even better actually because you get invested in what the characters are going through. The flow of the writing was very smooth and the switching between the characters perspective had a nice transition. It didn't feel choppy at all. I love Roseline, she has got to be my most favorite heroine ever. She is just AMAZING!!!! She has gone through so much in her life and yet she still retains her humility and understanding. She can be so nice one second but can be a badass when needs to be. Oh Fane why why you. I so wished you need up with someone but it tears my heart that you still loved Roseline and had a tragic end. The ending wasn't typical either. I didn't expect it. I still got the happy ending I wished for but not in a way I usually read in other books. I had a pleasure reading this series and I highly recommend it.
I'm not a big fan of these books. They weren't my favorite, but I didn't hate them. They were enjoyable to use to pass some time while I was waiting for other books from the library. However, I hated the romance between Rose and Gabriel. It was one of those instant hey-I'm-in-love-with-you things. And that annoyed me. Fane was my favorite from the very first book. From the get-go I just liked him a LOT better. He was wonderful and thoughtful and I felt like he loved Rosaline much more than Gabriel. I said a few times while reading it that I'd rather be reading his secret romance with her than what the book was actually about. But, SHE KILLED HIM. I bawled. I was so upset. I don't even like these books that much. The only reason I kept reading was for wonderful Fane and she shoved a goddamn sword in his chest. I was crushed. And to top it all off after Gabriel gets stabbed too, HE GETS TO COME BACK TO LIFE! Like wtf. Gabriel gets to wake up and save the day but Fane has to stay dead. That is where I officially checked out of this series.
Such a roller coaster of a ride in this whole series!
I will admit, it's been a while since I've read the first two books, but I FINALLY managed to get around to read the third instalment! And boy this DOES NOT disappoint.
After the excruciating battle against Lucian both Roseline and Gabriel are left reeling
Both have a duty to keep to, but can they?
There's more pain and torture in this book, as always and it take a strong character to go through what they have and come out fighting at the other end.
I will warn you, you will need some serious amounts of tissues for both 92% & 97%
Amy totally pulls at your heart strings and messes with your mind.
You wouldn't like this books ends the way it does, and the epilogue........I'm not happy :(
Redemption was unpredictable. I had a million scenarios running around in my head and not one of them was right
