The business of Death is never done. Asato Tsuzuki works as a Shinigami, or "Guardian o Death," in the Ministry of Hades. It's his duty to make sure that the souls of the dead reach the afterlife, but contrary ghosts and humanity's evils keep getting in the way of a job well done. With all these problem assignments, will he ever get a bonus...or will he be stuck paying back damages for all eternity?
The Business of Death has lots of opportunity for travel. Tsuzuki and Hisoka travel to Okinawa on assignment to help fellow Guardian of Death Chidsuru find out just what is behind the Miyagi Inn's recent troubles. Is the Miyagi Inn really haunted, or is it all a vicious rumor spread by the wicked president of the neighboring resort hotel?
Back in the Ministry of Hades, Watari convinces Tsuzuki to help test his new sex change potion. But something's wrong with the formula, and instead of turning into women, they turn into kids! The antidote calls for belladonna flower, but the Count's garden of poisonous plants has two varieties--red and black. Which is the right flower...and what will happen if they choose wrong?
The main story revolves around Tsuzuki and Hisoka being sent to Okinawa for the summer, and they end up helping an inn keeper with a supposed ‘haunted’ inn, that is being forced to sell by a large hotel up the road. There’s not much to say about the story, except the Shiisaa was very cute, looked like a Pokemon.
The other two short stories are about Tsuzuki destroying the library after it has been rebuilt and being turned into a child with Watari by Watari’s latest potion.
An okay volume, but reading about all the conditions the author puts on fans before they can write to her was a bit galling. You would have thought she’d be happy to have fan mail? Also, I still really don’t like the Count in the Hall of Candles, he gives me the creeps. 3 stars
Silliness pure. Not my thing, really. I prefer it when the funny stuff is peppered with something deeper. There were three stories in this volume: the reopening of the library Tsuzuki had destroyed while possessed, Tsuzuki and Hisoka's business trip to Okinawa and Tsuzuki and Watari chibified by one of Watari's potions. I hope the next volume's a bit more serious.
The Shinigami Library has just been rebuilt after Tsuzuki’s antics while possessed, yet a squabble between Tsuzuki and Terazuma threatens to destroy the place…again. A visit to Okinawa and fellow shinigami Chudsuru Akamine becomes a lot more complicated for Tsuzuki, Hisoka, Yuma, and Saya when they encounter a haunted hotel, an old friend of Chudsuru’s, and a scheme to take over her business. To top it all off, Watari thinks he’s perfected a sex changingin potion which he persuades Tsuzuki to drink along with him, but Watari’s experiments have a way of going spectacularly wrong.
Some of the artist’s commentary I found baffling in the context of the story she was showing. She did a beautiful panel of Hisoka in a dress, only to state in the last two panels that she thinks men who cross dress are the worst. She drew a striking segment where the Count of Candles meets Hisoka, saying he’s a lovely boy and he doesn’t think they’ve meet, even though Hisoka was at his tea party in the last volume, plus he appeared as the Count’s own son in the magical book. Perhaps there’s an explanation for the latter? The story with Chudsuru and Rika at the inn was very sweet, strongly hinting that a f/f romance was blooming between them. Saya and Yuma continue to be fun while Tsuzuki and Hisoka are visual treats to look upon. The last story for all of its inconsistencies was enjoyable, developing Watari, the Count of Candles, and the Gushoushin a little more. The parts which bothered me may very well reflect the time gap in between now and when the manga was written. I sense a conflict between the story she wishes to tell and the story she feels she should tell, which reveals itself within the sidebars. Balancing the confusing commentary versus beautiful artwork, sweet storylines, and attempts to depict relationships and emotions which were expressed far less frequently back when this volume was released, this book gets a rating of three stars.
This series seems to have one book out of two with silly stand-alone stories that do not advance the main plot at all.
Chap 13 is about the Library of the Ministry of Hades finally reopening one year after Tsuzuki destroy it while being possess by a demon (volume 2 Arc). Hisoka try to read quietly while Tsuziku & Terrazuma are fighting. The younger Shinigami must separate them, once again. In chapter 14, it is summer time, and this mean the return of the two fangirl, Yuma & Saya. Our favorite duo plus the girls are send to Okinawa to help. We meet another Shinigami, a police woman name Chidsuru. She has asked the team to investigate her friend’s hotel, who is believe to be haunted.
There is also a little bonus story. Watari have made another tryout for his sex changing potion and ask Tsuzuki to be his guinea big in exchange of beer. Instead of becoming women, the two men become children.
This manga could be skip, there is some amusing moment, but so far it is the weaker volume of the series. I love the characters but which there was a little bit more depth to them in here.
Reread. This is quite solid volume including one bigger main story and smaller story about Watari's experiments. I liked this because it was fun to read but mostly it didn't bring anything new to the "bigger story".
A very disjointed 6th instalment, this has three rather silly stories featuring the boys at the ministry of Hades. Firstly we have Tatsumi initiating budget cuts and Tsuzuki ruining it all by destroying the library... again!
Next we have a trip to Okinawa where Tsuzuki & Hisoka have to help a haunted inn. This almost felt a little like the Kindaici files. Very daft but there is a hint of lesbianism as the owner of the hotel looks like she was involved with Chidsuru another Shinigami in the ministry who is leading the mission.
The final story has Watari attempt a sex change potion that goes drastically wrong and turns him and Tsuzuki into children.
After some of the twisted and dark stories in the series this "fluff" volume is really disappointing. The artwork has changed too, Tsuzuki looks much younger and I hardly recognised him!
Don't get me wrong, this is still fun, with loads of slashability, innuendo, gender bending and humour but it lacks substance, plus its not as funny as some of the other volumes either. I want more plot!
