In this issue, we see the repercussions if Jon Osterman hadn't become Dr. Manhattan. Along the way we also see the possible choices Jon could have made with and the world-changing consequences each choice brings.

An infinite neural network. This is how Dr. Manhattan perceives events across time.

Until now he still doesn't know why the "other" him did not become him. He must have messed up the timeline. This point tells us that Dr. Manhattan, though having godlike powers, is not omniscient. He doesn't have an explanation to all things.

Issue #2: 2stars
delves into the famed Schrödinger's cat theory by asking what is the consequence of observation. Through Mr. Manhattan's omnipresence we can see on real time the effects of paths not taken, decisions not made. I found the writing pretty ok ,if not mediocre but the art by Adam Huges still captivating. Not as excited for the next issue as much hasn't happened but now reluctant to reading it as they are pretty short and somewhat intresting and easy to include in my goodreads challenge.

"the first dance..." v "the last dance..." frame broke me

the endless possibilities, how agonizingly exhausting.

Like Rorschach’s series, Before Watchmen: Dr. Manhattan is a prequel to the graphic novel Watchmen and a four part arc, as well as a loving study in the titular character. But while Rorschach’s storyline has had little to no familiar cameos (so far), quite a few well known Watchmen faces have flickered by in Dr. Manhattan, whether Manhattan has met them yet or not. This makes perfect sense if you’re at all familiar with America’s favourite blue quantum anomaly: after all, when your perception exists outside of natural reality, you’re bound to see some future flashes every now and then.

Last issue saw Manhattan doing what Manhattan does best: brooding about the mysteries of the universe while sitting on an empty planet in space. He thinks a lot about the different realities that people make for themselves with their decisions, and then I guess he feels up for a challenge, because he decides to try to extend his consciousness to before his own creation.

The themes and the way the way they are developed make this a great series that is quite faithful to the original. "What's in the box?" is a great leitmotiv. It's a better experience if you read all four episodes in one sitting.

The Dr. Manhattan story is my least favourite of the series. However, he was my favourite character in the original :(
