Dr. Elizabeth Lister has successfully eluded a stalker since graduating med school. When her luck runs out and threats start up again, she runs right into the arms of the one man who knows how to make her blood pressure rise and her heart skip a beat. Detective Mike Bennett has been a thorn in her side since moving to the small town. The only man she’d met that not only sparks her irritation, but reminds her she’s a woman with needs of her own. Can she set aside her conflicting feelings to let him protect her, or is running again the only viable option to keeping her sanity and heart intact?
Police Detective, Mike Bennett has had enough to deal with the way his sisters attract trouble. Between keeping them safe and searching for the man who killed his father, there’s been no extra time for a relationship. Keeping his own gift a secret has been something that he’s managed for his entire life, made even easier without the entanglements and distractions a girlfriend or wife would bring.
When new information surfaces and Elizabeth is the key to getting the retribution he so desperately desires, can he convince her to give up her new found freedom to settle the scores of the past. Or will he risk losing the one true chance at happiness he’d found in her arms?
Mike is the only brother to the Bennett sisters. He’s a detective, and protective, and rather smitten with their friend and doctor, Elizabeth. When the stalker Elizabeth has had to deal with for so long shows up, Mike and his sisters will use their gifts to help...
This is the fourth book in the series, and a standalone romance that is part of a series with an overarching background storyline. It continues from where the previous book left off, and actually answers many of the burning questions that those books have, although the story is not yet completed.
This was a good book and series, that I really only have one problem with... the ages. I’m completely confused about the ages of the siblings, which is older and exactly how old they all are. Ostensibly Emma, the first book’s heroine, is the middle child, and 35 when her story is set. But her *younger* sister Abby is 36 in her book just a few months later, their older sister Claire is 39, yet Lydia says she is 39 and is the elder of the two of them. Claire professes to be the eldest, yet Mike is described as her older brother... It doesn’t help that the book covers all look to be ten years younger than the characters 😂. Despite this confusion, I enjoyed the series (so far) as a whole, and am intrigued enough to read on. It’s a gripping romantic suspense series with paranormal overtones, that any fan of the genres will enjoy.
So I was excited to read Mike’s story until I actually started reading it. In the previous books, I just skipped through the sex. I skipped through it in this one too. I’m not a fan of sexed up romance novels. I read these books bc I enjoy the psychic angle and generally the stories have been pretty good. Elizabeth is a doctor and the daughter of a General. She’s survived being stalked. She has been a smart character in previous books. Somehow she becomes needy and stupid as soon as she hooks up with Mike. Mike calls her “baby” pretty much every time he speaks to her. She is incapable of doing anything without worrying about him. This should have been a great story that wrapped up the bad guy from the previous books, instead it focused on “ the little doctor” and Mike being a controlling, condescending, manipulative jerk and Elizabeth being a needy, pitifully stupid little girl. This book is going on my Wish I Didn’t Read list.
Dr. Elizabeth has taken care if all the Bennett sisters when they've gotten hurt. And would love to take care of their hunky brother Mike. When Doc's stalker returns, and her life us threatened Mike protects her. But someone else is putting leathel drugs on the streets.
